aadams_22 3
this is a major, major blunder for the mccain campaign, now reaching astonishing levels of incompetence. mccain is old as hell and not the picture of health. if elected he could easily kick it while in office leaving palin president. people in this country are simply not going to be comfortable with that thought.gift to the obama campaign. I assume he's trying to snag more Hilary voters.ding ding dingA lot of Hillary's voters can't stand Obama therefore this is an extremely wise move for McCain. That being said the USA is going to be screwed no matter who becomes president.Obama is inexperienced, and keeps preaching change but gives absolutely no examples on what he's going to change. Since I am an Illinois native I can attest the sheer lack of anything that Obama has done for this state.McCain is going to be another 4 years of the same bullshit Bush politics that has sunk this country and our economy into the 8th circle of hell that both are currently in.So either way we are completely screwed. ajs510 122
I always thought he would go for Tom Ridge in the end.I was completely convinced that he would. I agree that the whole thing is very strange, but I guess at least it isn't Lieberman. If he'd gone with Lieberman I would have packed it in completely and just voted for Nader. nutzbuster 7
gg McCain. Why the HELL did he go for the Hail Mary pick? This is so calculated it's nausiating. No offense to (who is she again?) but McCain needed a safe, predictable, strong pick.Unless I am missing something this is a disaster. What an idiot.HAIL OBAMA?edit: Im watching McCain right now in Ohio introducing her... the audience looks shell shocked, stunned. This is truly laughable.

copernicus 0
Five reasons why Sarah Palin is a laugh-out-loud choice for VP9:30 AM Fri, Aug 29, 2008 | Permalink | Yahoo! BuzzMichael Landauer Seriously? Sarah Palin for VP? It's one thing for millions of voters to put forward a sitting senator as a possible commander in chief, but for John McCain to hand-pick a first-term governor of a tiny state is bizarre. Here are five reasons why, if she is the pick, this is a huge mistake:1. There goes McCain's best argument. He cannot say Obama is not ready but she is. Obama started organizing his campaign for president the same month she was sworn in to lead the third-smallest state's government. Nonsense. Shes running for VP not POTUS.2. She has no base of support. Obama won his senate seat with 3,597,456 votes, that's more than five times the population of Alaska. He has won more than 18 million votes in a long, tough primary that tested him and prepared him. How has she been tested? She lost her first bid for statewide office, then won the governor's office with 114,697 votes, not a majority, but enough to take office. And apparently, enough to set her up for the Oval Office. Wrong office.3. The "woman card" will backfire. She's no Hillary Clinton. And this is such an obvious ploy. It would be different if she were known to anyone or qualified or something. True4. Alaska, a corrupt hinterland. Yes, she is a hard-nosed, tough reformer. But the McCain campaign will have to deal with the fact that Alaska seems like a foreign land as corrupt as Louisiana. It's longtime senator will stand trial smack dab in the middle of this campaign season, and McCain may have to vote to remove him from office. Yes, they can spin it that she is someone cleaning up the mess up there, but what Americans realize is that they don't know much about what goes on up there. Will they be comfortable with her? Irrelevant. People dont care enough about a VPs background for that to override whatever personal presentation qualities she has.5. Was this McCain's choice? It seems clear that McCain wanted to go with Lieberman but was talked out of it by the right wing of his party. Rove admits calling Lieberman to ask him to pull his name out. Bush lost his way because he never stood up to Rove et. al. McCain is headed down the same path. I dont buy it. The right wing would not be pushing for Palin. There are lots of reasons this is a terrible choice. Only 1 is shown above.

ajs510 122
This speech had better be damn good, because it's pretty obvious that McCain didn't believe a word of what he just said.*Edit* The painting was a GIFT Todd!

ajs510 122
I've never seen a more uncomfortable looking human than McCain right now. I think he knows they'd stand a better shot of winning if they flipped the ticket and let her run for the big job.
Nimue1995 1
I think McCain picked the one Veep that could persuade my redneck husband to vote for Obama, lol.
Miguel McHarris 0
Damn she's hot, even after 5 kids, and some of you are putting way too much emphasis on the vp picks. It really won't help or hurt either candidate very much.
vbnautilus 48
Honestly I don't get it. Seems like a desperate move when the campaign didn't need to be in desperation. One creaky old heartbeat away from the presidency for this woman? Wow. Listening to her speechshe just seems so... amateur. Wow.

irishguy 14
There are lots of reasons this is a terrible choice. Only 1 is shown above.1) Is it not kind of a big selling feature for a vp to be readily able to step in for the president if something were to happen?2) Again same as above4) I disagree5) I agree but wonder who was. Nimue1995 1
I have to believe that there are thousands of men just like my husband who'd vote for anybody but a woman (though he'd never admit that was the reason).
