This got buried in an off topic thread yesterday. Any comments?---------------------------------------------------------------------Maybe I missed it but I don't know if anyone commented on the announcer spouting off "Show tunes must be going off in Daniel's head" during the WPT show a while back when he flopped a great hand. Not that there's anything wrong with show tunes. But without trying to offend anyone, when mentioned in context relating to the male gender, it usually implies that perhaps the male being referred to may be exibiting a bit more of his feminine side than what is usually considered hetero. The announcer's name escapes me right now, but he has used the term "...going off in his/her head" in a way that usually generalizes where the player is from or their percieved actions. I just wonder if this particular announcer was trying to generalize his opinion of how he percieves Daniel.

On every show they stereotype the person when they make that stupid comment. When it was Brenes, it was "Brenes looks down at A/K, oh Mike you know the Macarena is going off in his head right now..." (hijacked that from another thread). They typically look for an ethnic stereotype. With negreanu I'm not quite sure what their angle was. Show tunes is pretty generic and non offending. They could have at least gone with a Canadian band or something. Something really good like Gordon Lightfoot or Rush. I don't know man I guess you can shoot Sexton an email and ask him if he was basically calling him a metro.

Award for dumbest post of the day is.........THIS ONE. You're also nominated for worst post of the year. This doesn't even warrant a response. Go sit in a hole somewhere and think of another post that has something to do with anything, and then go back to the "off topic" section and post. First time i've seen a post too dumb for the general section. Also, if you watch WPT and you don't know who Mike Sexton is then you should just go away.

Sexton's name escaped me when I wrote the post. phuquing shoot me for that OK?To be blunt, I was wondering if he was implying anything by the comment he made about "show tunes". Personally I would have been offended if someone said that about me. Sorry if I offended you. Maybe the post hit too close to home.

Wow, what a non-issue.Show tunes are generally happy. People are singing and dancing. There was nothing implied, other than that Daniel was happy with his cards.If someone saying that to you would offend you, it's your problem, not theirs.

If you watch the WPT for any length you will realize that the color commentators, Sexton and Vince Van Patton have a limited number of catch phrases they make."Showtunes" is one of the most common from VPP. I imagine Mike Sexton also uses it sometimes.If you got offended by this then something is off about you. You just signalled yourself as a stupid poker player. Don't worry, we were all there once - though probably not as bad!There was another thread about VPP and his racism, but this one is even worse.

OK I'm a jerk, idiot and lousy poker player.I was actually wondering why no one had spoken up and defended him (not that if he wanted to he would be perfectly capable himself) and was actually trying to show that if the announcers intent was to insult Daniel, that the announcer was in actuality making a fool of himself.But I guess it's such a non-issue that I should have kept my big mouth shut.I'm sorry that my ability to relate thoughts via the written word vs. spoken word is severly lacking.
