I got the disk from the owner of my company and did it last night. Now I can not connect to the internet and i am stuck in 16 bit color. Apparently i am missing an ethernet driver (to connect to the internet), maybe a video card driver (the 16 bit problem), and probably some other drivers. Dell Support) enter the service tag on the back and downloadThis.If you don't have another computer around with internet access, you'll need to find one that has it, find the driver for your network card, copy it on a CD, then take that CD to your computer and install the network card drivers. Once you do that, then you can get on the internet and download all the other drivers for things like your network card etc. Its not hard stuff to do, but if you're computer illiterate you might want to find a friend locally who can help you through it, as its pretty hard to talk someone through over the internet imo.Mark Link to post Share on other sites

It was working fine until it froze all of a sudden so I turned it off with out clicking 'shut down'. Then when I tried to turn it on, nothing happened except there was a little line blinking in the top left corner but nothing else happened. So I waited about a day and tried to turn it on again and I got to the normal screen where everything loads but then the mouse froze and it is still happening. What should I do? Sounds like a damaged hard drive.Boot to your XP cd, on the blue screen, select R for repair. It currently has 40gb.How much would it cost me to upgrade to, say 100gb and is the installing something that I could do myself or would I need to take it to get it installed and if so how much would that run me? Sounds like you need to do some general house cleaning on the HD and get rid of some stuff you don't use. Burn some of your rarely used files to disk or transfer them to another computer and delete them off your drive. As has been said, if you don't want to get a new laptop add RAM to the current one instead of a new HD. Link to post Share on other sites
