digitalmonkey 929
This card sold for $1400. If I was gonna spend $1400 on a hockey card or sports memorabilia I can think of a lot more appealing things than a John Tavares card. To each his own I guess.

Does that say 5/10, as in only 10 of those were made? Im confused on what makes that card so valuable.Personally, I cant think of any memorabilia I would spend $1400 on, but like you said, each his own.

The only difference in the cards is foil stamping to identify whether it is an Exclusives #/100 or a High Gloss #/10.
digitalmonkey 929
Here's a sample of something much more appealing to me than a hockey card with foil stamping...http://cgi.ebay.ca/MAURICE-Rocket-RICHARD-...=item45f02d5dd1
digitalmonkey 929
FYI, tomorrow January 30th is National Hockey Card Day.Here's a cool contest if you're near a place that sells packs of hockey cards.
Zach6668 513
It's a shame Caputi's sig looks like shit.Yeah, it's growing on me, though. I am looking for his better ones (which that one is, believe it or not). Some of his bad ones are just horrendous.====================That Tavares HG card is ok. I agree I'd spend it on something more interesting, but if was focusing on being a Tavares collector, it'd be worth the money to have a piece like that (assuming I was rich enough to collect Tavares), and don't forget, that card will always be worth something. It'll inevitably fall from $1400 down the line, but getting half of that in 10 years if he needed to.I want the Caputi HG, but I can't find one anywhere.

gruven 530
I'd probably go for this one: http://cgi.ebay.ca/MAURICE-ROCKET-RICHARD-...%3D10%26ps%3D63 Although, I love the part in the description where he says it's an 'authentic wool jersey' made by RBK.....

Zach6668 513
Zach, I figured you'd collect the Staals.Yeah, I have kinda a semi collection of Jordan Staal in mind. Problem is, he's up there in terms of price, and I wanted to keep my hobby a bit cheaper. Collecting the few cards Kennedy will have this year, and the ones he does have will be cheap, will be a decent chase, and it'll quell my urge to collect, and definitely make me bust fewer boxes.Staal is not quite Malkin or Crosby, but he does get a ton of cards, and a ton of high end stuff as well, and I would be too tempted to grab everything I saw of his. I am collecting a bunch of his autos though, with some other lower end Penguins. He's just on my side of affordability for most cards.
Babying 613
how much would sid's version of this have fetched?Do you have one?My best guess is in the neighbourhood of $2,500-3,000.

At last year's Expo, an old guy was running around buying all the Staal cards he can see. Rumour had it that the guy was the father.
Babying 613
Dale saw your post on HI about the guy who's card store closed today. Let me tell you the guy was a complete good in regards to business practice. He would go around the cardshow all the time and then knock off his wax prices to be lower than anyone else in the room. I know competition and all but the way he did it really ticked me off. I talk to pretty much every vendor at the show except for this guy.
