Casino De Montreal now spreads poker. They don't use human dealers, but they have electronic dealers.Has anyone used them yet? How does game play compare to having a live dealer? I'd assume it's more hands/hour but are there any negatives to the electronic dealer?Through search I've also heard rumblings of two underground card rooms called MGR and CPC in downtown Montreal. Could someone please PM me contact info for these places? If people have played at both the underground card rooms and the casino, which experience, overall, is better? Which has the softest games? What limits are spread by each place?I've also heard casino de Montreal does not allow people to wear hats in gaming areas. Is this true? Thanks.

they have cash 1-2 to 5-10 and sng's. once a month there is a tourney. I've been a couple of times, and to my surprise it seems to work ok for cash games. The machine pretty much takes care of everything and you can always call a floor over if there are any issues (allthough machines are automated there are lots of staff around). You sign up electronicaly to a queue and the seat waits for you (you will be given a card with your id and will need to swipe that into the machine. The card also holds your money so don't loose it.)Don't know about the other places. There are a couple of cardrooms in Kahnawake (thats about 15 min by car from downtown) with real dealers and tournies but I haven't been to those (you can google that they have websites).gl

I played those digital poker tables in australia at Crown casino. They used them for daily tourneys, and sng's. and cashMy beef with these set ups is that at crown, they had no one there to regulate the players from table talk or other shiit.there was 1 friday night when a bunch of guys were all at the same table, playing like a home game, talking about their hands, and no dealer there to tel lthem to stop.. 1 guy even had his g.f. sitting on his lap.it was amateur hour at its finest

I actually went to the casino de Montreal back in march for spring break. The casino is absolutely beautiful. To get to the poker room u have to walk up to the top floor then take an escalator through like this hallway that lights up as you pass by the sensors really cool. Poker room is split up into two sections separated by a bar. It's a real trendy poker room. Kind of a little darker in there. The tables they use there are PokerPro tables if you type it in on Google you'll see what they are all about. They do run cash games and sit and gos it is all done electronically. You get a card at the front desk they just ask you for a nickname you can use what ever you want. Then you just go to the kiosk then when a table spot opens up it will tell you on the big screen TVs all our the room. From my impression when I went players were really weak. Even the players that say they go there all the time and seemed really good really aren't. I turned 100 into 1k (Lost 250 at roulette still kicking myself for that Black just never came) over the weekend I was there. Like I was saying really cool look at th staff was really helpful only thing that gets on your nerves is that players are very split up into french and english. Even though most of the french guys know how to speak english they still decide to speak french to you.

PokerPro took a little getting used to. I suggest checking out the Demo table first b4 u try the real thing. Also there really isnt a dress code even though on the website it says there is. I saw a bunch of people including myself wearing sweatshirts and jeans so that shouldn't be a problem at all. Also make sure to hang on to your card cause once you go to the cashier and put money on if u lose it anyone can use that card.

QFTI also played at the Crown. I remember quite a few hands where the flop would come like 2-2-5 and you'd have some random guy at the table go *SIGH* "should have played my hand". That was so damn annoying.Overall I think they're ok.

I got used pretty fast.

you'd think that but it's actually quite different from online play. for all intent and purposes it's still live play. it's just electronic.I actually quite enjoyed the PokerPro machines in Macau before everybody switched to real chips and cards. big thing is hands per hour and newbies don't see stack of chips so it's easier to stack'em IMO.

I am an old man. I will never enjoy an electronic book the way I enjoy a "real" book or newsaper. The feel of paper between my fingers. The actual turn of the page and sense of progress as the pages dwindle on the right and restack on the left. The leaf-like rustle of a turning page. The heft of a book held in one hand while the other cradles a hot cup of coffee on a cold rainy Sunday. Even the smell of a room full of books stacked and neatly lined on shelves.Poker too loses something when you take away the dirty smelly human physicality of it. I guess I'll never completely embrace on-line Poker, but even these electronic tables sanitize it too much for me. No "clikity-clack" of people shuffling chips would make the room feel eerily silent. Like the pages of a book, no cards to catch as they skim along the table at you and then to feel and rub against the felt as you try and squeeze out Aces. Heck, no felt either, I guess. No chip tricks. No card protectors (sorry Humberto I wouldn't miss your stinking "Chark!" but I'm sure you'd still find a way to whore it up for the camera). Nothing to splash into the pot or push forward as you say "all-in". No Dealer button to place on edge as a target for the Dealer to try and knock down. Nothing to bend and toss angrily into the muck as you curse your bad luck."Cards" are a physical noun not just a generic category of games - and the game is diminished for me when reduced to electrons and a touch screen.I am an old man.

I guess I can somehow relate to this...Reading a real book/news > reading a screen by FAR. I also feel like this about music (as in reading the CD booklet etc > downloading). But for me it's different when it comes to poker. For me online is more convenient, and even more entertaining most of the time, since I'm never playing anything "special" live. Unless I'm sitting at a really fun table live, which doesn't happen too often, or I'm playing with my friends at a home game.

Melodramatic dramaqueen!!But yeah you're right. There is nothing better than reading a book without using a laptop or playing poker the old fashioned way. The only possitive thing about electronic poker would be that hand go faster, no dealer errors, no tipping...old fashioned is, erm, better?Jan

I live in Montreal and go to the casino all the time. I had some reservations before the poker room started about the electronic tables but they work just fine. The caliber of play is terrible so if your looking at staying in MTL for a week you could probably pay off your trip. As for a dress code just dont show up in sweat pants and youll be fine. Before Montreal opened up its poker room there were a couple of decent clubs downtown, KGR and CPC but the hotspot to play now if you dont wanna go to the Casino is called plaza in kanawhake. They spread cash cames tourneys and sits along with free booze. CAn't go wrong with that buddy. Good luck at the tables
