My dad caught this last weekend. Out on the flats out of St George Island FL.BTW, my dad is 6'5" for some perspective.Fish087.jpgFish091.jpg
This is from about 11 years ago ...kingmac2.jpgLooks fairly close to the size your Dad brought in. One thing I know for sure is King Macs do not let you reel them in easily!
Well... it wasn't the biggest catch hahahaha, but it's all she wrote.govfish1yo8.jpgGoing again on Tuesday & Thursday, can't wait.
hahaha nice!

Anyone ever fish from a kayak in the ocean?I was watching some guys fish at the pier in Santa Barbara, which doesn't allow fishing from pier, so they got a pretty good racket by paddling up to it.Looks like a good thing, but waves could make it miserable.Anyone?

Canadian lakes are the best anywhere.I'm this close --><-- to ponying up the $1000 "application fee" and trying to get my certificate of rehabilitation so I can enter Canada again. The maritimes are probably my favorite place on earth (I really want to buy property there). We used to fish on the Canadian side of Lake of the Woods when I was a kid and I'd love to go back someday. I've been hesitant to apply for the COR since the $1000 "application fee" is non-refundable and they can tell you to FOAD for any reason, but I may give it a shot next year. The fee is understandable. It keeps the real low-lifes out. It probably should be higher. There is nothing- NOTHING- like the shield lakes.

I haven't, but I plan to get a Kayak and go for Redfish when I move to Jacksonville, FL. I've got some buddies who use them for Stripers off North Carolina. Was out fly-fishing this afternoon, and caught this 24" Cutthroat Trout on a 4 wt rod with 4 lb. tippet today.DSC01024.jpg

Not to go too far off topic here, but have you been to Jacksonville, FL?The reason I ask is that I'm a pretty well traveled guy- been to 45 of the 50 states, lived in the midwest, NW, NE, and SE- for a relatively young guy, I think I've seen a goodly number of places. I actually spend a lot of time in St. Augustine. Of all the metro areas I've experienced, my absolute least favorite is Jacksonville, FL (this is excluding mulligans like Detroit and Gary, IN). I've never seen a place so large with so much coastline that *should be* so good but was so completely absent of any redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's payday advance loan and strip mall hell, spread out across 40+ miles of terribly planned nightmare. soulless tract development and perpetual road construction. Eat at Wormans Deli, a little Jew joint down by the Federal Courthouse on Broad street I think. The Matzos ball soup is the best I've ever had (including places in NY that purport themselves to be the best in the world and my regular place in Chicago which is great, but not as good as Wormans) and their smoked whitefish salad sandwiches are vvgood. They do "fluffy" matzos balls. Fluffy matzos balls are kinda hard to pull off. A lot of places do the bullshit "dumpling" style matzos ball, which is hugely inferior.

It's because my girlfriend lives there. If that's still happening when I move back east, then I'll go there. If we don't survive my two months in Idaho, then I'm not totally sure where I'll go.

So I caught my first ever pike tonight. Totally awesome even though it was very small. That thing just bolted out of nowhere, grabbed the spinnerbait and dove under the boat. Caught me off guard but was just an awesome experience. Good news was I caught another one a couple minutes later. We rented a pontoon boat tonight, nice change from dock fishing for panfish.

Wait you just got married and you are still allowed to go fishing? How did you pull that one off?

Whiskey, nice pics of your fish. I assume the small one is from RMNP? Where did you fish?I spent the weekend in Estes Park. We took an 8 hour guided trip. I'm sure you know, but the average fish in the park is 4-8", I'm assuming due to winter kill and the shallow lakes. We fished below lake Estes, where the average fish was closer to 12". I caught some real nice browns and rainbows. I caught a walleye too. I guess word is the DOW stocked them to control the sucker population, because they haven't said they stocked them. Weird. Are you coming through this way again anytime soon?Below is the outfit we use when we fish the Platte outside of Casper, they just updated their fishing site.www.northplatteflyfishing.comxslide15.jpgxslide01.jpgxslide02.jpg

Swede nets giant elk on weekend 'fishing' tripSwedish angler Joel Lagekvist’s morning at the lake resulted in the most improbable of catches and one whopper of a fish story. When he was out casting his line with a friend on Sunday morning, Lagekvist thought his lure had snagged the bottom of Lillsjön lake in central Sweden. But as he started to reel in his line, the 24-year-old realized he had hooked something else completely. What emerged from the water’s murky depths wasn’t a giant fish or a tree root, but the outline of an enormous elk (or moose as the animal is known in North America).“My first thought was, ‘What the hell do I do if it starts to run at me?’” Lagekvist told the Expressen newspaper, explaining that he wasn’t sure whether the beast was dead or alive when its head appeared with his fishing lure securely fastened to the elk’s antlers. In a panic, Lagekvist dropped his pole and headed for shore to call authorities, although it took some time before anyone believed his tale. But eventually a crowd gathered to help drag the 500 to 600 kilogram elk up on shore.“I improved my personal best by 490 kilos,” said Lagekvist.Lagekvist and his fishing buddy each took home their own antler as a souvenir from the day’s fishing/hunting trip.To celebrate, the pair then decided to check out the evening’s hockey game featuring the local professional team, HV71.“I told people a few people what had happened, but no one believed me,” he told Expressen.Police suspect the elk died from fatal injuries after being gored in the groin by another elk.Lagekvist, however, is looking forward to what he might haul in on his next fishing expedition.“We’ll see what I hook next, a Russian submarine, perhaps?” he said.http://www.gt.se/polopoly_fs/1.1307859!.../3447786819.jpghttp://www.gt.se/polopoly_fs/1.1307864!.../3447786819.jpghttp://www.gt.se/polopoly_fs/1.1307863!.../3447786819.jpghttp://www.gt.se/polopoly_fs/1.1307862!.../3447786819.jpghttp://www.gt.se/polopoly_fs/1.1307860!.../3447786819.jpghttp://www.gt.se/polopoly_fs/1.1307861!.../3447786819.jpg
