Is There A God?

Also you have to give all your money away to the poor. Those are really the only two things that Christ wanted, and he repeated them both over and over.
This isn't true.Also, Randy, you're kind-of mean.

quantum mechanics already has in a sense.that is not to imply that anyone in the scientific community actually thinks the big bang singularity (if there even was one) came from absolutely "nothing". there are multiple feasable theories about what existed "before" the big bang that science is currently exploring.
I ignored this earlier but thanks, and we actually have ideas of what happened before the big bang. It's just that some here can't undertand even the simplest things. If you won't believe dinosaurs existed it's hard to get anything across, lol.

For the last time that was more a joke than anything else, but on the serious side it's more an exercise of what doesn't matter. If I announce that I don't believe dinosaurs, how exactly does that impact my life? I won't enjoy 10% of most museums? Ross and I won't really have much in common? True story. I was at a museum on a filed trip recently chaperoning, and this old man was telling these long stories about these rocks, blah blah blah, and when he was done telling of how he had done this dig and this dig I asked him,"Awesome. How is your soul?" and he just looked at me for like 5 seconds and looked away. I don't know why but that was satisfying.

Lois, you're kind-of a douche.

Evey once in a while you say something that makes you look like a complete douchebag. If you seriously did this you are an ass, and that is why Atheists, Agnostics, people on the fence get fed up with Religious people.Look I have talked to Rob before about this stuff, and he seems like the type of Christian that is not going to hide his faith, but also not push it on other people or think less of others if they do not believe exactly how he does. This is a cynical action looking for a reaction, nothing positive can come from it.Frank, you really baffle me. For the most part you seem like a nice guy, but your definition of Christian is baffling to me. A true Christian would not antagonize a guy at Museum about faith, they would not repeatedly talk about pornogrpahy, and all the gay stuff you talk about. (I just want to point out, I don't care that you talk about that stuff, I am just saying it is hypocritical). I would wager that BG has never even opened the Pornstar of the Day thread (again I don't care one way or the other) but my point is that at least via perception he is living a fairly Christian lifestyle, your actions seem to be contradictory to your faith.

also it goes without saying that the jihadist interpretation of islam certainly requires adopting strict obedience of specifics in the koran. just believing in the christian or jewish version of yahwey is not sufficient for salvation. picking one nice-nice passage out of the koran does not let you off the hook in terms of pascal's wager/islam.
nice. I love that you don't have Islam to point to anymore. I should post more things out of the Koran that make it irrelevant, like how the Earth is flat not round.
Well, it wasn't really a true story. That being said, I am a douche.
Well if the whole story was fake, then it was funny. Nice one.

neither the bible nor koran contains anything remotely suggesting the authors possessed understanding of natural facts or the workings of the universe that transcended primitive knowledge of the time. if that's your parameter for relevance you should throw the bible in the toilet.

Please point me to some specific "fact" in the Bible that is now known to be scientifically untrue.

I think you guys think Christians give more thought to others than we really do.
You might want rephrase that.

OK... fair enough..."I think you guys think that all Christians give more thought to others than the Christians I personally know really do.

Some believe that God will judge people based on how they would have responded to the calling. Being God He would know, so His judgement would be right every single time. I tend to lean this way because that's the kind of God we serve. It fits better into His Character that He would look for reasons to forgive, over reasons to damn.
Suppose there was an Aztec that pondered this question: "Hypothetically, if there were a god who sacrificed his son for my salvation, but, didn't actually visit my homeland in our time to tell me about himself or leave any evidence for us to consider, would I accept him as my savior? No, that's a pretty inept god."

Good work! Once I stole some child's rock collection and threw it in a river and told him God doesn't want him studying rocks! Kids need to be in church not looking at rocks and learning about the history of the earth!

I should have guessed you'd pull a bible quote out about the mystical place called heaven instead of logically responding to my point that the whole idea is pretty stupid.
You suspected I'd pull some quote out of the Bible to define...what the Bible says? I guess I again don't follow how you are satisfied with this, but we're working off the Rush connection.
At least we agree on Peart (finally something!)
and we're both from OhioI'm from Newark, oh and we both love Ice Cream

yes, about being guided by the mind being as important as being guided by the heart.the real problem with what you were debating is that for whatever reason you refuse to acknowledge that "random chance" and "god did it" are not the only two expanations for complexity. the third possibilitiy is that the complexity of the universe arises through NON-random naturalistic (god-free) processes, mimicking what we humans see as design by intelligence, even though it's not. this third possibility is what the empirical evidence indicates has been going on.
So what you are espousing is a Creator-less Creation.Yea, I think you will have copyright problems with that.

Multiple feasable theories that explain what existed before time and space? Yea, I think the real genius is the guy that wrote the grant request to study that and got funding. That man is a genius.Baically what crow is saying is: We don't know, but we know it wasn't God, because...we're really really smart and have degrees from really important former Christian Missionary colleges. And I hope no one implied that ANYONE in the ENTIRE scientific community would ACTUALLY think the big bang came from nothing. ( They are using this logical conclusion teqnique called the watchmaker theory, but don't tell anyone)
