Atlantic City Poker Thread

Recommended Posts

I've been told not to make any plans for the weekend after my b-day so I assume I'm getting a trip from the fiance for my b-day. I'm guessing it's a trip up to Foxwoods as I've never been and I've been meaning to go up and play there a bit but I'll see.
GL if you head up to the Fox. I haven't been either but I will probably make a journey up there sometime this winter as one of my friends moved to CT recently.

OK, I have never been to a casino and would like to plan a vacation in the near future. Vegas seems too far for me, so I was thinking of heading North to Atlantic City or Turning Stone which I've had friends tell me is nice, with affordable games. Any regulars to AC have any recommedations as far as where to stay and where to play? Looking for something nice but still affordable. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For AC, I would recommend playing at the Borgata obviously, but it is not usually that affordable a stay. If you go to the boardwalk, the Marriott (I think it's a Marriott) is right near the Taj (if I recall) and is a pretty affordable stay if I recall. I stayed there earlier in the year on July 4th and it was amazingly reasonable for a weekend and holiday so you might have luck there IMO. It's a nice hotel as well IMO. I don't stay very often but I can pretty much tell you whatever you want to know in terms of casino.

Yeah I agree with basically everything said here The Borgata is definetely the place to play poker in Atlantic City. Its the largest room, provides the best selection of games, and is the cleanest. If you are going during the week, you can probably call in advance and get a room at the Borgata for a semi-reasonable price. The rooms are quite nice, but on the weekends their price extends beyond their value. You might be able to stay at one of the other casinos for a reasonable rate on a weekend if you book it in advance, but I am not 100% on this as I haven't looked at prices recently. Before I moved up here I generally stayed at the Red Carpet Inn off White Horse Pike in Absecon when I made weekend excursions up here. The rooms aren't anything special, but I could roll in at 4 or 5 in the morning, get a room for like 40-50 bucks for the night on a weekend, and get free late checkout until 1 or 2 PM. Was hard to beat that in terms of value, considering all I was looking for was a bed and a shower. Hell, one day I rolled in at 9 AM and was able to get the room for the next day despite check-in normally being like 11 AM and didn't have to pay extra.I don't know if you are trying to play games other than poker, but on the weekend generally the smallest table game at the Borgata is a 10 dollar minimum table on the weekends, and even these can require some waiting around from time to time. The poker room you can generally sit immediately, especially if you are playing 1-2 or 2-5 NL.

Cool. Ill report back here the week of the 2nd.. Maybe we can meet up... Ill buy ya a bday drink :club:
It is looking more and more possible that I will make an appearance during my b-day. I will confirm during the week with others to see if they want to go. If it's just me it won't be as fun as I would like to do a drink/play/yuckbox on people combo.

How was the birthday drinking & poker? Hope you enjoyed yourself.
Eh. Drinking was goot. Poker was another story. I figured I was supposed to dole out the bad beats on my b-day, not take them. Dropped 2 BI's in NLHE, one was straight vs set AI on turn. River paired board obv. The other was overpair vs weak flush draw on turn shove, flush got there on river obv. After that myself and the fiance began to amuse ourselves at the table by playing mini-games like "no looky" (not allowed to look at your hand until at least the flop and have to at least call all bets blind preflop) and "raise Manilow everytime" (one guy looked like Barry Manilow and we enjoyed raising his blind every time blind because he folded with disgust). Also had some sesame chicken which was superb.

What limit were you playing with the fiance? I am definetely a fan of the mini-games, I have played "no looky" myself.
drunk 1/2 and though I have utter confidence in her skill at 2/5 (and occasionally 5/10 depending on table) I didn't want her playing higher while intoxicated. Though losing is never much fun regardless.

We're slacking AC frequenters. Anyone down for a possible meet up at some point during the Borgata Winter Open? Not a WPT event this year ( :club: ) but should still draw a decent crowd IMO. Events are running January 13-29 and details can be found here: Borgata Winter Open InfoLemme know.

No doubt. I haven't played live in more than a month. Taking a break for a bit as work has been hectic and with the holidays and then my impending wedding in February I haven't had much time. After things settle down a bit I'll be back to my old ways.

Valid point though she plays poker frequently at least...and we've lived together for like 6 years now so I don't anticipate much change. Except a better tax return. GG gov't.I'll disrail (Emmitt Smith speak) this thread for a minute to talk about Emmitt Smith's commentary work. I love both his awkward pauses and his creation of words/phrases. He called the Steve Smith/Ken Lucas internal Panthers fight in training camp "Special". The look on Steve Young's face when he retorted "special?!?" was priceless.Carry on...

Yeah, I haven't even played that much, I would not have guessed considering I live 5 minutes outside AC now. Just haven't been sticking around the area much on the weekends, and the holiday season is not going to be different. My schedule should be somewhat normalizing once January arrives so I should be back at the tables on a regular basis then. Of course if my friend keeps supplying me with tickets to Maryland basketball tickets and/or Baltimore Ravens tickets, who knows. Here's hoping the Ravens finish out the regular season strong and make it into the playoffs...I agree 100% about Emmitt's commentary on the Smith/Lucas training camp fight, Young's reaction was classic. I felt bad for Young when he got hit with the beer cup during his commentary at the end of the game.

I went up 12/15---12/17 to New Jersey for a job interview in Haddonfield. Combined that nicely with a stay at the Borgata and some marathon sessions and some craps action. (I flew from Fort Lauderdale to Atlantic City direct on Spirit Air. Worst airline ever but the price was right. I did not even know AC had a real airport until I booked the flights. Thanks, Kayak)I will write up a trip report later today. I had one session at the 5/10 NL table that I kept notes from (I dont normally play that high live but I wanted to take a shot and keep notes to examine my play). It was a very successful and very interesting session (and it made up for getting bad beat after bad beat playing 1/2 NL later when I was drunk).

They do not have a train all the way to AC from NYC (which sucks!). They do run a train from Philly to AC.
They will starting in February I think

Dealt AQoff. MP raises to 35. I flat call. BB calls. Flop is Q72 rainbow. MP bets 65. I call. Turn is a 2. MP checks, I check. River is a 4. MP checks, I bet 110. MP calls and shows 1010. He thinks and thinks and thinks. And then folds JJ face up. Nice Fold guy. I show him the aces stupidly. Whatever. Some drunk idiot who has rebought for 1K twice already says he "knew" I had aces. He clearly "knows" a lot. 10 mins later, I have now about 4250 dollars. Massage girl is working on my upper back. Definitely worth the 1.33 per minute the Borgata massage girls charge. Much better deal than the 2/min cost in Vegas. Come on Vegas! Dealt 44 in LP. EP Limp. I limp. SB calls, BB Checks. Flop is J99. Four checks. Turn is a 4. Jeez.My day so far. I raise from EP with QQ. CO calls. SB calls. Flop is A95. SB checks, I bet 75. CO folds. SB calls. Turn is a 10. SB checks, I check.River is a 7. Check, Check. He shows AJ. Oh well. Turn is an 8. Check, I bet 100. Button calls, BB calls. River is a 5. Check, I bet 180. Button calls, BB calls. I show two pair. Button mucks. BB shows KQ. Good ending. End up with a little over 4K profit.Lost 400 bucks later than night playing 1/2NL. Was drunk....lost most of it when I flopped a 7 high straight and slow played it and paid for it when someone made a better straight on turn. Ugh. Then lost 300 at craps. Won 200 at 3 card poker. Lost another 100 at blackjack. That was about it for gambling. Rest of time was spent at interview and doing non gambling type things.

GG. The Borgata has the best 5/10NL game by far IMO.
it was surprisingly soft and they had three tables going even during the afternoon. I really enjoyed it. The 1/2 NL games are still pretty damn bad everywhere which is nice. I avoid 2/5NL now though....for whatever reason I find the game is usually tougher than the 5/10.
