Did anyone see this?Date / Time: 2005-05-09 16:51:00 Title: The Players Vote Log: Tournament Director Johnny Grooms asks the players to vote whether or not to continue playing. He explained that Lake Tahoe had experienced heavy snowfall during the day, and there were rumors going around that roads were closed. (The players knew this already.) When it came time to vote, it had to be unanimous to keep playing, so a single dissenter would end the tournament today at 27 players as originally scheduled. When Johnny Grooms asked if there were any objections, one voice said plainly and clearly, "I object," with no apology or explanation. It was Phil Ivey. Grooms then directed the playesr to start bagging and tagging their chips as they received their new seat assignments, and reminded them that nobody should berate another player for wanting to stick to the original schedule. A few people in the crowd theorized that Ivey might have objected just to annoy the other players, possibly putting them on tilt. I suppose only Ivey knows for sure, but it turned out he wasn't the only player who was happy to leave early today. Was Ivey just being an ******* to mess with others? Seems like a pretty selfish move...

I didn't realize poker was a team effort, I'd do what was in my best interest 100% of the time.

Ivey did it IMO to just mess with the other players. If he angers just a couple of them at his table then he has them off their game and he'll get more chips that way. He of all people wouldn't have a problem with playing long hours

Whatever his reason was it was his right at the time so i don't know how you can't fault him for it......maybe he was just the first player to speak up but i wouldn't call him selfish until i know the whole story

He changed the flow of the tournament. Sometimes thing are going and sometimes not. If you have a chance to change the flow..do it. However it's kinda dumb to have a vote on something like that. Someone has to make a decision and stick to it. Why do you have a tournament director anyhow? If I was on a roll, I'd be pissed.

Don't know if this had anything to do w/ it or not, but if you look at the chip counts looks like he had taken a 40k hit w/in the last hour before getting down to 27.So maybe he did want a break.

He probably knew that he could get a big cash game going later that night. By ending early, he could get a few extra hours playing. He probably started thinking about that as the field was dwindling.Always LSU
