1/2 Limit Online Strategy

Recommended Posts

I just started playing limit cash online. I only play 1/2 stakes and when i first started the first two weeks i turned 100 into about 1200. Depending on the table i would play TAG or LAG and just used instinct and picked on different types of players . but the last few weeks I have ran so bad and have lost about 300. What is an ideal strategy for these games. I play 6 max 1/2 limit on stars. I have also had some really bad luck like full house with AA vs quads and nut flush vs a straight flush hit on the river, and alot of two outers. So other that the bad luck how can I use strategy to get on the good side of it again because there are some bad players out there. I have read Sklansky's small stakes limit and I like the ideas but he wants you to play way too tight and I dont think letting the online maniacs steal from you is a good strategy either.P.S. I play live 4/8 imit when I play limit live but those games they players are much more conservative and play straight forward so is easy to control it but games online are just ridiculous, like i think every button has been raised in online limit for the past decade.

I personally have been playing the Stars 1/2 limit games for about a year, and have found that the SSHE strategy works very well. If you find the TAG style to be boring (as I do), then just open up like 4 tables and a SNG. Of course since you're playing 6 max, the TAG style may not be good since you are going to need to play a lot more hands.

Read Small Stakes Hold'em.
I have that book is for mainly passive games with alot of calling not crazy LAG's. Sklansky's small stakes book is perfect for like 2/4 - 4/8 loose passive games or tight passive games which the casinos are full of. Most people live play off suit K rag, A rag, Q 8 and so on. And your pot odds on every bet are like 6 to 1 or better and thats when sklansky's book is genius. But in crazy games the tactics are not as profitable because it relies alot on pot odds, implied odds and so on. and he preaches tight play and in crazy games you end up folding too much and getting little action when you have a hand, which both are detrimental to winning imo.

Im not worried about TAG being boring but I think folding too much takes away some expected profits

I recently moved up to 0.5/1 and on those levels SSHM works great. Players are more agg, but they still make so much mistakes it's not hard at all to beat them.

1100 in two weeks playing 1/2 limit? How many hours per day? Seems a lot to me.

much less than you think (pick up a copy of poker essays by mason malmuth he talks extensively about the myth of better players being able to play way more hands). if you are having a 150bb dive and asking questions like this you should not be putting yourself into tough situations. you can beat 1/2 for a very good amount playing mostly very straight forward. also, playing 6max its hard to tell if 150bb is from just a bad run or from playing badly. when you look at peoples graphs from 6max they are very tumultuous.

I was playing like 8 hours a day because I am a college athlete and was injured and had an excuse for no practice and school for a while so ya I was playing 2 tables for many hours a day. I know it was a bit excessive.

Maybe you should start a Poker Forum. And in that Forum you should have a Sub ForumAnd you could name that Sub Forum "Limit Texas Holdem"In that sub forum, you could encourage discussion of Limit Texas HoldemPlayers and sarcastic posters alike could come in and post hands and opine on the game strategyIf you do go ahead with that suggestion, please make sure to label the Sub Forums clearly and include some sort of stickied noted and sub headings so people will know where to post topics such as this. http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...howtopic=125027

If you like books, "Winning In Tough Hold 'em Games," by Stoxtrader helped me a ton for 6 max. I only play it up to $2/$4 and the book is advanced and designed for higher limits, but there is some great info on blind play and stealing. FWIW, I am mainly back to playing full ring because the variance was disgusting.

Ya I think thats what I have been doing I just have to find one with more players per flop. I look for games with like above 40% of the players per flop. Good thing casinos are filled with these games also.
