Day 1 At The Wsop - Chipping Up With Jesus

Recommended Posts

1st: I have a twitter going at twitter.com/Naked_CowboyLeft my house in dallas a little before 7am CST, flew to vegas where I met my parents who are spending a couple days out here, and headed right to the rio. I love the setup of this year compared to the last time I was here (2006), everything is set up much better from a layout perspective down to the structures. Upon arriving at the rio i met up with cobalt who was playing the $5k shorthanded and railed him for about 30 minutes. He had a really weird table with a super aggro online guy on his direct left and a loose passive guy on his right that made it really hard to steal preflop. After about 30 minutes I decided it was cash game time to get into a little poker mindset so i got on the 2-5 PLO and NLHE lists. I got a brand new table and bought in for $500. Immediately, suckers and not suckers were spotted. seat 2 bought in for the minimum and was raising basically every hand and making over-pot bets on the flop to take it down. I lost a few trying to play pots with him in position like this, until semi big hand 1 where he shoved 120 into an 80 pot on a K high board with KJ and i snapped him off with KQ.Next big hand i floated a guy on the flop who had raised pf in position with AK with the intention of bluffing the turn but got there instead and got some value on the river. biggest hand was stacking one of the only other competent people on the table with KQss on a 9h Th Jh board. I raised 1 limper pf from CO-1 to 20, he re-raised to 50 from the button as he had been doing every button. I called. On the flop I checked, he insta-bet 70. I pondered and called. Turn was an 8s, I checked to let him go ahead, he insta-bet 120 again (just way too fast for a flopped flush) and I looked up and made a hand-waving "all of it" motion (having him covered) and went back to my resting position. He stared me down for 2 minutes trying to get a read. Knowing there's no way i'm behind if he didn't snap call, i swallow hand and induce the instant call. River is a 4 or something, I show the straight and he leaves the table. I'm pretty certain it was a set.Ended the session +550 or so after getting rivered in a $400 pot by KT who called 3/4 pot bets on the flop and turn and checked behind on river on a Jc Tc 6c Xx Kx board (I had JT). Whatever, I'm totally happy to be playing with people that retarded. Tournament I felt pretty in-control of my table the whole time, which was made up mostly of old rules nits who I think I tlited within the first 5 minutes of sitting down because I wasn't lining my cards up for the correctly. I was the only survivor of my non-breaking table at the end of the day, so I guess maybe they should have focused on the game rather than the way "that punk internet kid" at the end of the table was playing. In all seriousness, being a young guy in decent shape is huge for the endurance in these things. I was wide awake when we bagged at 3am despite having woken up 23 hours ago in dallas, while most people at the table looked like they were on their deathbeds. I chipped up a fair amount in the last level thanks to that. After the first guy busted, of course his seat (directly to my right) was filled by Chris Ferguson. He had just busted from the 50k i think and really didn't give a crap about the actual event. He was absolutely hilarious though once you get him talking and out of his shell. I held onto roughly 20bb the whole day with the exception of going from 8k to 4.5k and back to 10k in about 20 minutes between levels 5 and 6. At one break i went over to check on daniel in the HORSE, who commented that I had gained "about 3, maybe 3.5 pounds" since he saw me last. While I'm sure it was a joke... it was dead on. Remember kids, daniel negreanu knows what you ate for breakfast. I apologize for not discussing any hands or my strategy yet, but I'd rather mitigate the small chances that someone comes here and reads it who's still playing. It wouldn't be hard considering I have an FCP hat on.I go into today with 24k even. I think we have a 200 ante, 200 bring-in with completion of 600 and levels of 600-1200. I'm 12th in chips with 117 remaining and 56 getting paid (first is 118.3k). I'm tied as CL of my table. Wish me luck, i'm headed to the pool and lunch.

I will say that in 8 levels yesterday i made zero wheels and was rolled up zero times
The wheel is overrated, especially as the nuts.
