the travel channel, wpt events and player logos

Recommended Posts

I sent an e-mail a couple of days ago to The Travel Channel asking why we as players could not wear logos.I pointed out that I undestood the problems of advertising .net and .com gambling sites but that their rival channels permitted the wearing of logos as long as they did not have .com or .net if a gambling site.I also pointed out that internet sites would continue to support the rivals but not the WPT to the same extent because of the non logo policy along with the fact that we as players should be allowed to benefit through logo wearing as after all we are the main attraction of the show along with the prizepool.Because the rival events like the WSOP and others who allowed logos got internet support they got bigger fields adn as a consequence bigger prize pools and aslo greter viewing figures not to mention more of the top players as given a choice and a limited budget they would invariably go for the better value and bigger field (with presumably more dead money). Finally I pointed out that it would most likely be to everyone's benefit (their viewing figures, The WPT and the players themselves) if they were to allow logos and asked if they were considering or would consider allowing logo wearing. In Eurpoe several tournaments now allow logo wearing adn there are established fixed guidelines as to what can and cannot be worn along with size.Unfortunately I submitted the e-mail via a webform on their site but got a VERY DISSAPPOINTING generic to say the least response.Namely that my answer could possibly be found at the local library or on their website as it was not in their database. Alternatively if I wanted further info I could complete their webform and send it to them.Of course I replied to this e-mail by pointing out my disatisfaction with their non answer and asked for it to be forwarded to their head of poker cverage as I felt entitled as a player along with my fellow players to a reasonable answer. On a personal not I feel certain that the WPT will be severely restricted in it's growth if the Travel Channel does not permit the players to wear logos. The bootom line is that with more and more competition players when faced with a choice will probably go with the log wearing tournaments.Sponsored players may very well be ordered to play in events where their logos can be worn especially if there are two rival tournaments that coincide eg a WSOP event and a WPT event.I sincerely hope that I get a reasonable answer and will post further if I do as it is obviously of great importance to not only myself but presumably all other players too.Perhaps I should appeal to others to also e-mail The Travel Channel in the hope that if they get a continuous stream of e-mails they may decide to answer this specific point or maybe someone can supply me with a direct contact at The Travel Channel with whom I can bring this up directly.

I think this...Why can't you wear a shirt that say's "Poker Stars" or "UltimateBet?" They should not be allowed by law to ban this. What if someone wears a Nike sweatshirt? They have a logo on there chest just like someone with a FullTilt shirt. I just think it's ridiclous. They can make money off us poker players playing in the tourney, but we can't make money our ownselves. Oh well...
