The standard dropoff is about 25 pins from house shot to sport shot. There is one bowler who just quit our team a few weeks ago because he was too frustrated. At the two alleys he bowls league at, he averages 227 and 224. At our NDSU practices and the few tourneys he has gone to. he is hovering around 165. Each bowler will have some sport shots they will average high on...but to average consistant on all the shots. you need to be able to adapt to play any part of the lanes, whether your target be between 5th and 6th arrow or it be right up the one board. The bowler who quit could only play between about7board and 20board. most sport shots, that is one of the tougher areas to play because you get no swing room...you miss and you are screwed. The other thing that makes an easier conversion from house to sport shots is the spares. A 220 average bowler may go x x x 9- x x x 9/ x x81 in a game to get him his average...but out of all those strikes...on a sport shot I can guess at least half of those would be 9s or 8s or worse. Suddenly spares become more important.

Just drilled up a HyRoad yesterday. Laid out strong - gives a very strong midlane move with super continuous backend. I'm pretty stoked to have this ball in my bag. It does about what my Epic Battle used to do, and is a good bit stronger than my Cell (which is laid out fairly weak).

This ball is not fond of carrydown. Ran in to some nasty carrydown on Tuesday during my scratch league, and ended up playing a little straighter than normal with my Pyro. Had some trouble striking, when I would get to the pocket I couldn't get the corners out, so I shot a clean 187 the first game, 215 the 2nd, and completely fell apart the 3rd game, missed a few easy spares and shot 170-something, don't even remember exactly.

300 is my high game.. obv brag. Had an 800 series that day too ( man I was hot). My average topped out at 208 but I haven't bowled in a league in a few years. Got burnt out. It's like I hit this wall, were I wasn't quite good enough to hustle make serious money ( there's a lot of bowling action in the Pac NW, strangely enough, if you know where to go) but I was too good to be a social bowler, if that makes sense.
LIAR!!!

Well tonight was the first time since the 23rd picking up a ball. I shot 246-232-179 for exactly my average and 657.My buddy shot 268-249-290=807!!! He is 22 and that crushed his previous high series of 768. It was the 1st 800 shot at our bowling alley since 1972 and I couldn't be more excited for him. To top it off, his little bro shot his personal high 736 tonight too. Our team ripped it apart....

That ****ing pisses me off...girl on the team I bowl on (about 205 avg) shows up without her equipment, uses friends ball and house shoes, can't slide so just plants on the last step, and fires a 650. I'm there with my two week old ball and great lane conditions and can't even get to 600...LFT

Bowled an 8-game swiss this weekend. Averaged 197, because I totally lost focus and bowled like trash for 3 middle games - 149, 179, 170. Throw those out, and I averaged 217. Even throw out just the low game and I'm at 203. Really need to work on my endurance, even though my last game was my best of the day (and I tied and split my point for that one, goddamnit).

I don't think I have ever heard of a "swiss" before. Our NDSU team struggled day one at the Blue and Gold Classic in South Bend, IN, going like -550 for 1st 6 games. 37th of 67 after day one. But we went -50 the 2nd day for 3 games and jumped to 26th, so I was pretty pumped even though I bowled my worst tourney in my 4-year college history, 173 average for 5 games.Coming up we go to Mankato, MN this weekend for a small 11-team tourney that we hopefully will finish top 2 at. Then off to St. Louis one weekend later for the McKendree Baker Challenge. Then a week off, then off to Indiannapolis for the Hoosier Classic (which will ahve the biggest prize fund for a college tourney ever, at 20k with 5k to 1st place). Then 2 weeks off, then sectionals in either StL or Vegas.I bowled tonight sick with food poisoning and went 258 182 196. Just ugly.

as college bowlers you get cash prizes? Or are they applied as scholarships?

Money that can be used for team purposes. As far as I can tell, we can use the stuff on anything bowling related that helps out the team, whether it be equip, practice, airfare, or other travel expenses.

FYP. Bowling and beer go together so I don't see what the problem is.

wow you college doesn't pay for your travel expenses? I mean I don't think any other college athletes are paying for their travel expenses and don't they also get per diems? Do you guys get balls and stuff at a discounted rates or are you guys sponsored by certain companies? Really interesting that you gotta pay for practice time also. That would be like the basketball team paying for practice time to use the gym.

I think you misread that...it says we DO get everything paid for.Our 1st year of the team, we paid for EVERYTHING out of pocket. Since then NDSU has helped to fund us. This year I think we got right around 11k.We get discounts on all balls too. We don't have a sponsor because we are looking for a deal that would benefit our team. Usually the only thing we pay for is food and then whatever airfare that we go over budget.

That is still crazy that you gotta pay for anything at all.

Well NCAA doesn't recognize Men's Bowling as an official sport due to Title IX. Women's Bowling is a sanctioned NCAA sport. We officially have club status so we are lucky we get anything at all. Some of the big bowling schools have MASSIVE budgets. We can get just about everything paid for with our 11k budget. They have a budget of around 350k IIRC (I'll look it up when i get a chance). They have a Hall of Fame coach, fly most places, have top equipment and top training tools. That is why it is hard for us to do well versus teams like them, due to the massive budgets they get compared to us.EDIT: Their website mentions around 325k in expenses every year. Just disgusting compared to what we need to get by.
