Nice! What type of ball?
Ebonite Total NV. Bought it last year and love it. I used to play up 10 (I'm a righty) but I've moved a lot farther out at the new house my team is bowling at. Probably will get a new ball before states in April.

Good, good! I still throw my Total NV all the time. It is my go-to ball at college tourneys, and the only ball I use at one of the houses I bowl weekly at.

I've improved every year in my league from the 160's up to about 186 last year. This year, I've regressed all the way down to a 175. I got a better ball the middle of last year and went from about 178 or so to 186 in the second half alone. With that, I was expecting 190+ this year. Instead I've dropped way back and will need a huge second half to even sniff the 180's. The alley says they did not change any oil patterns, but did get new pins over the summer. Would that make a difference? I seem to have left an inordinate amount of 10 pins this year, as have the other bowlers on my team (all 170+, everyone's average is down). League average, however, is not down all that much, then again it is a mixed league so the there to socialize, throw 150 and don't care straight ball throwers may not be affected by the change? I don't really know.I throw a 15 pound ball and regularly am drunk by the middle of the second game, but that was true the last six years too so it should all weight out. Any other info would be great.

Most of the time, new pins=bad carry for the 1st week or 2 until they get "broken in" a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if your average may have dropped a bit due to your new ball's cover wearing down a bit. Maybe you are just getting unlucky with lane draws. Each pair breaks down different every night...maybe your pair's oil just hasn't been breaking down favorably for you yet. Sometimes its all mental..."Man I need to shoot xxx to get back to where I was...." then pressure causes you to speed up, slow down, put too much hand, not enough, etcetc...Two years ago at my home alley I averaged 211, last year 195, this year 222. Same oil pattern, it was just mental for me.My best guess is just new ball "goodness" wearing off a bit.

How much does a good ball cost these days? I'm gonna take up bowling again.
Depends...from an average proshop for a top ball like a Cell, Dimension or Resurgence...you are talking $200-$240...I'm lucky and I get balls at serious discount through college bowling...$90 at most for one of them.I bowled after a disappointing league tonight (629 and we went 1-3) and I shot 1173 in 5 games after...starting with a 175..

No reason to jump into something that high-end though, especially if you've taken a lot of time off. Look into something like a Brunswick Avalanche, which you should be able to get for under $200.

Kept my good bowling up with a 644 tonight. The change in my line and how much hand I'm putting in the ball is been so crucial to my recent success. My first game I had a 7-10, then the next 9, and then 5 count. Good job me.

holy crap never knew this thread existed until today. Well I guess start off at the beginning been bowling since 5th grade and only started bowling cause I wanted to play football and my parents didn't want me to. They all bowled league for years so it was kind of a family thing to bowl. Bowled through Junior bowling and then Bowled highschool. To date my highest game is still what I threw as a senior in highschool. Front 10 came in a little high and didn't trip out the 4 and picked it up. Was using the Purple Rhino Pro at that time. Once I finished highschool started bowling the adult leagues. I am from hawaii and the league money is pretty good. If you were to scoop one game you could win around 600. Most I have won in one night was 1300. Was bowling 3 leagues a week averaging in the near 190's. To be honest I now realize I didn't understand bowling like I thought I did then compared to now. I quit bowling because all the guys I bowled tourneys and league with either quit or moved. I stopped bowling for nearly 7 years until last year. Found out one of my friends was bowling at this one house checked him out and have been bowling since. Using the Black Widow Bite which I love. Also using the SD 73 Classic, Lane 1 cobalt bomb, the 1st fury, and my old school ball is the storm trauma. And Got the brunswick glow in the dark ball for spares. I should have about 30 balls in a closets however when I quit bowling I started to get rid of my balls. Really regret it cause I got rid of some good classic balls. Of course the rhino pro, really miss my black ice zone and primal rage. Those two balls I made a ton of money with. Also got rid of the 2 different boss tour balls. Not bowling league now as my average is too high to get into the league I want to get into. Gonna wait one more year and then bowl in that league. Subbed the other month and shot 280 199 233. Left a solid 10 on that first game. Funny I found this thread cause I practiced today and the shot was amazing. It was an easy shot but hell I still shot well. went 190 260 268. the 260 should have been 280 I threw a mixer hit the 7 pin it moved over a little but stayed up. And in the 268 I left a ringing 8 pin in the 5th. Then tugged it in the 11th.Like I said earlier really glad to have found this thread and will definetly look at it every day.

I took "good" ball to be high-end. I love balls like: Gamebreaker, Cherry Vibe is a good ball for the price, Street Rod...Best thing to do though (if you don't get super discounts)...Buy balls onlinebuddiesproshop.com is a great site. Most of the time they have free shipping...and the most expensive balls are $150...then throw in 50 for drilling at pro shop...and you an save money most times..

Luckily I get all my stuff at cost, working in a pro shop, and I get a lot of stuff for free, but I would definitely buy online if I didn't work in a shop.

Gah, lanes were super oily last night, bowled like shit. In other news, probably going to be buying my friends Black Widow Pearl for $40. Only have to change the grips.

The guy who ran the best pro shop here in town owed me $80. He told me I could have the $80 or any ball of my choosing. He was only 21 (his family runs bowling alleys in ND and SD) and got into some legal trouble so his parents kicked him out of Fargo and forced him to move to Mankato (5 hrs away). He used this excuse to never pay me back. After me stalking him and finding out where he worked and lived, he finally gave in.I asked him if he sent my Black Widow like he said he'd send. He said "no I sent you a maxx instead." Well I haven't been following bowling balls much this year so I google maxx and only came up with the Vendetta Maxx from 3 years ago. Naturally, I feel slighted and scammed in a way. After questioning him about it, he informs me I am retarded and he actually sent me the new Brunswick Maxxx Zone. Sweet!Should have it tomorrow and drilled up by Saturday. Just in time too, since I leave for the two college tourneys in Vegas on Wednesday.Goals for Fri-Wed: Bowl 100 games with 15 being low-game (goal is to knock over as few pins as possible...only catch is a 0 = X if on 1st ball or / if on 2nd ball, so you need to knock over SOME pins at least)

That Maxx Zone is nice, my boss drilled one up. I'm getting a Hy-Road this week on our next order.I think I'm better at picking off corner pins in low-ball than I am actually shooting them when they're by themselves.

Update on my quest for 100. I will fail this miserably. I hurt my hip at Wednesday practice so I took Thursday off, tried to bowl Friday and got 9 games in, but hip was acting up so I stopped. Saturday, I had to quit halfway through college practice due to hip again, then Sat and Sun there was a huge blizzard. Today I have a dead car so I can't get out til tomorrow (maybe late tonight if I get a jump)I've dropped to 50 games for a goal.

Shot 20 games tonight. 225.7 average. Missed 10 splits and 2 makeable spares over those 20 games (the makeable spares were the 9pin in game 19 and 3-6 in game 20...I blame the misses on being dead tired)Very happy, going to put in 10-15 again tomorrow and maybe a few more Wed afternoon before I leave.

alright looking at picking up a ball. Was all set on buy the dimension and then I was reading about the virtual gravity. What do you guys think? I have the black widow bite and I need to fix the rest of my equiment. Got an attitude shift that I got from my friend so I think I am going to plug that one. I also got a the cobalt bomb and the sd 73 debating about what to do with those two. Got them drilled get into a bit of an early roll. Thinking about adjusting them and making them both go longer down the lane and with the new one I get get that a bit medium length. The bite I have getting into a roll early. Any suggestions?

Are you looking for a complete arsenal? If so, it doesn't seem like you really have a dull ball. When I am looking to see which 5 balls I carry to a tourney, I try and get a dull ball drilled to go long and one to hook early, and same for a polished ball, then a spare ball to round out my bag. That being said:I would keep the Bite as your early polished ballI LOVE the Cobalt Bomb (I don't have one though)...drill that to go long and buff it a bit to polish it more so when stuff dries out, you have a go-to ball. The Attitude Shift would be a good ball to keep around 1500grit maybe even dull it to 1000 grit and drill it to go semi-longThen go buy a dull ball, keep it dull, and drill it to set up early with strong finish too. Something like a Dimension, Resurgence or Maxxx Zone.My bag (Once I get my Maxxx Zone) will be: Spare ball, Total NV (polished long), Action Max (Polished Early), Gamebreaker (Dull long), Maxxx Zone (Dull early)Hope that helps a bit...

Sounds like a good idea for the bomb. I had the bomb atually getting into a roll earlier. But to switch it up would give me a great ball when lanes start to dry out. For my dull ball drilled early I have my bite set up that way. Never changed the ball surface from when I bought it. So if I set up my shift for dull long ball. Use the bomb for polished long. And what about the virtual gravity for polished early roll? and when the lanes really dry out I got my storm trauma and fury.

okay picked up the virtual gravity and tested it out today. Typical house shot and that house shot has been allowing some high scoring lately. Shot 221, 231, 202, 235, 238. Avg 225. 6 Misses over all 5 games. Left a total of 4 10 pins. Missed one of them. Had 13 spares and 37 strikes. Ball is amazing. Like the video of it on YouTube you are able to play a lot of different shots. Reads the mid lane very well. And hits the pins like a damn mac truck. I used the first drill pattern on the drilling sheet and kept the factory surface. Probably gonna practice again tomorrow.

I think I'll pick up this ball or one similar to it. What does this run and where's the best/fastest way for me to get one?And what weight? I've always used a 15 pound ball.

For me I usually just buy it at a pro shop where I live. Being that I live in Hawaii I don't typically get the free shipping like you do in the continental US. Not sure if any of you guys live in vegas I was up there in Feb and I bought the black widow Bite up there at Nadeau Haynes Bowling Pro Shop. To date this guy drilled my the best ball I have ever felt. I have actually debated about buying balls from him and getting my friend, who lives up there, to mail me the ball or have someone pick it up from him when they come back home. Not too mention the guy is a USA team bowler but the most down to earth guy I have ever talked to at a pro shop. I know at home they all tend to have a little bit of an attitude here and there but that guy was amazing.

Wow I just wrote up a sick bowling report for this thread, but I just deleted it all by accident. ****!It was a writeup about our 2 college tourneys I just finished up on. I'll go more in-depth if anyone wants, but I will just do a quick version insteadTourney 1: Sam's Town Collegiate Shootout: (Tough and NO forgiveness...very tough sport shot)I shoot 246 201 166 185 and get a HUGE knot in my arm and have to pull myself, even though I am at 200 average through 4. Our team gets through the 6 games in 14th place, but then gets killed in 1st 2 4-game baker matches before recovering last 2 baker sets to finish up 20th (after dropping to 28th after 2nd set). I bowled the Baker set after icing my arm over the last 2 games of team singles matches.14/15 single pins, 11/21 multi-pin makeable spares and 1/7 splits if I can remember right, then a poor 38% strike percentage.2nd tourney: Las Vegas Invitational at Southpointe Casino: Modified Cheetah Oil Pattern (play up 2nd board for success)It was 9 games of singles, on day 1 I shoot 203 194 181 196 220 191 and our team is one of only 2 teams to break 1000 in 4th 5th and 6th games. We finished day 1 in 10th place with 16 teams moving on to Baker best of 5 matchplay bracket. In previous 2 years we finished 5th and 9th so we had high expectations. Day 2 I was only one to average 200, shooting 244 168 211 for an 1808 for 9. But our team just falls apart, dropping to 17th after 8, and then collapsing in 9th to finish 21st for the saddest day of team bowling I have ever experienced.I was 24/25 on Single pins, 8/12 on multipin makeable spares, 3/9 on splits, and 46/92 on strikes for a respectable 86% makeable spare % and 50% strike %That's all I got for now. A big letdown weekend.
