my buddy got screwed

Recommended Posts

So I know by the title everyone is thinking: "right on was she hot?". No not that kind of screwed. Last night in the live tourney we were playing, the guy in seat 10 moves all in, my buddy in seat 1 calls his last 3 chips. Everyone else folds, not seeing that my buddy has called the guy in seat 10 tosses his cards in front of the dealer. The dealer scoops up the cards and puts them in the muck. The floor comes over asks the guy what he has, and PULLS THE FREAKING CARDS OUT OF THE MUCK. Too add insult to injury my buddy flops two pair only to have the board pair on the end thereby giving the other guy two pair with a better kicker.

What did you buddy say? Once cards are in the muck, they are dead. I am assuming your friend held on to his cards right?
Yep he held on to his cards. I couldn't believe the floor guy was fishing through the cards to pull out this bung holes cards. Ah I had AA, na to be fair I am sure that guy had the hand he said he did, but it still should have been a dead hand. He told the guy he had A8 of diamonds, what are the chances that the A8 of diamonds are laying together in the muck. Still though, I have always heard that once you toss your cards in it is a dead hand. If it were the WSOP they would have had to break out a rule book for me, but people tend to be a little more careful with the 10K events.

SO WIERD. thsi has happened to me, except the big blind mucked when i couldnt even cover the big blind so it was all mine right? wrong floor asks her what her hand was, and retrieves it. everyone at the table was sayign the pot was mine. thsi tourney ahd someone what of an extreme super satelite format, so they colored up to quickly and i only had 5 chips to cover the 6 chip BB (3K). i have never gone back to that casino). wierd thing was this chick (who was obviously in her first tourney) had mucked QdJd in the big blind, or at least she said she did. she makes a queen and busts my 97. wierd that thsi has happened to someone else, i thought no other floor in the world could make the same mistake mine had made, guess i was wrong.

Last live tourney I played in (not casino)A guy had it checked around to him in the big blind, and he folded. He tried to get his cards back and got shouted down. That's what should have happened.

That's very unfortunate and in both of your cases you should have demanded the hand be killed. Rules are very very clear about situations like that. If either of your cards so much as overlaps a dead card by 1 square millimeter, it's dead. Doesn't matter if the card(s) are easily identifiable, or what the reason. The hand is completely dead. That's the entire reason it's recommended you chip your cards so they cannot be killed.Next time that happens demand the other hand to be killed and don't shut up until it happens. They'll have a rule book somewhere and most players will stick up for you.

I really tried to stick up for my buddy, but when we had gotten to the same table I decided that I would not play any differently even though he was there. So when the floor was called over I raised a big argument about it, but felt that it was mainly up to my buddy to defend himself. I would have asked them to pull out the documented rules regarding that situation. I think the floorman misunderstood, and thought the dealer had started pushing the pot to the guy, who then tossed his cards in. Although I still don't agree with that, because at commerce the dealer delt me a third card in the small blind. I immidiately said STOP, they called the floor over, and he said because the person under the gun was Johny on the spot and placed there bet my hand was DEAD.

I was playing at a club in NYC and was talking to a kid that lost a $2k pot when he went all in with two pair and was called by a guy with a straight (game: NL hold 'em). The only problem was, everyone quickly noticed that the man who called the all in, only had one card. The kid was going on and on about how he lost a grand to a guy holding one card. It was pretty funny, to say the least.
