Well, meh, I'm torn between homering this, and just being honest, lol.I'm gonna homer it, because I think it's at least closer than most people make it out to be.1. Malkin2. Ovechkin3. Nabokov4. Iginla5. Kovalev

1. Ovechkin2. Ovechkin3. Ovechkin4. Ovechkin5. MalkinI think it's in the bag. By valuable, I think the difference between the team with the player and the team without the player. Pittsburgh would be fine without Malkin. Obviously it would be a big loss, but they'd find a way to win. Washington would be nothing without Ovechkin. They're about to make the playoffs on his back alone. He's had an amazing year.

I think it's a walk in the park for Ovechkin if they lock up a playoff spot tonight. A little closer between my top 3 if the Caps miss, but it's still Ovechkin.

I don't disagree. I basically think Ovechkin will get it, but I just want to push my Malkin angle a bit more, as what he's done this year is nothing short of completely amazing, imo, and deserves some recognition. I just want to make it seem closer than most people are saying, basically. Having said that, I'd be completely happy with Ovechkin winning it, should he, because he definitely would be a deserving winner.

Ovechkin has scored his teams 30% of his goals and something like 45% of his pts...Lets face it the Pens without Malkin are still a good team...Washington without Ovechkin is nothing...End of story..I think there is no argument..IMO

I don't agree with that.Washington does have a number of great players, and some decent players. Backstrom, Semin, Nylander, Green, Kolzig come to mind. When you take out Crosby, because he's missed so much time, who do the Pens have that are so great, in terms of being that far and above the Caps? Malone, Sykora, Staal, Gonchar? I mean, these are good players, but it's not like they're 'that' much better than the guys I listed for the Caps. Not to mention the Pens had uncertainty in net, and a pretty weak defense for parts of the season. Of course, I'm not including Hossa as he's played so little.Pittsburgh is a better overall team, for sure, but when Sid went down, then Pens weren't exactly playing great hockey, and weren't exactly stacked, by any stretch. The team played long, long stretches where there were 6+ players who started the season in the AHL in their lineup. It's tough to say that Malkin had that much more help, trying to look at it objectively. Everyone expected this team to fizzle and die without Crosby. Not one person expected Malkin to break out as he did. No one expected Malkin to contend for the scoring lead, or be in the MVP race. Malkin has scored 19% of his teams goals, and has been in on 43% of his teams goals. The numbers aren't that far off, serge. Not only that, but he led a team that was supposed to fizzle out and die, to a division championship, and with a decent likelihood, a conference title. that has to count for something.I realized I'm being completely biased in this argument, but I'm laying the stats and facts out there for you guys as objectively as I can. Again, my purpose here isn't to say that Malkin should be the definitive winner, by any means. I've stated that I think Oveckin should win it too, but I just think it's as big of a walk as some people seem to indicate, so I'm just kinda trying to show my boy some love. :DAgain, it's just closer than people think, and I hope whoever votes for this award recognizes it. I'm not arguing Ovechkin isn't the league's MVP, playoffs or not.

Freaking Commies are taking over. And no way Datsyuk should be considered ahead of Iginla. My top 3 are Ovechkin, Iginla and Lidstrom with Malkin hard to keep out of the top 3.

Zach said what I was going to - I remember the TSN poll right after Crosby got hurt where people voted on where they thought the Pens would end up. Half of them thought the Pens would be in 9th or worse by the time Crosby got back. Speaking of, I have no idea why Therrien doesn't get more recognition for the Adams award. Keeping the team focused and winning, and even contending for the #1 seed in the East is amazing after all the injury problems the Pens have had. That being said, this is almost too close to call, but it's really between 2 players, with Brodeur coming in 3rd. Brodeur's the only reason the Devils have done so well, since they don't score much and they lost both Rafalski and Gomez to boot. My homerism makes me say Malkin, but I would understand if he loses to Ovechkin.

I would have to put Nabby above Brodeur. He was the only reason the sharks won games in the first half of the season. Their play was average at best but Nabokov was stealing games during that stretch. It has to be Ovechkin. Washington is probably in the basement without him.

the thing is the nabby had thornton, marleau, cheechoo, campbell etc. even when the sharks where playing poorly. marty had parise and parise only doing what he was supposed to or playing above themselves. if the devils had kevin weekes in goal then they become a basement team. i dont necessarily think the same could be said if you removed nabby from the sharks net. i think guys like jumbo joe would still have the team in a battle for the playoffs. therefore although nabokov may have played better in the early parts i would have to argue that marty was more important to his team.at the end of the day its all academic because AO has this wrapped up.

Fwiw, Brodeur never ceases to amaze me. Year after year, with his teams getting worse and worse, we always think he's gonna fall off, but he never does. All he does, is have a small cold run near the end of the season, but he always gets it together for the playoffs. I do think he's probably one of the best goalies in NHL history.

That pretty much sums it up right there, except I would change your #5. Just having a guy like Ovechkin in your lineup has to do wonders for his teammates. His love for the game is so apparent, and his work ethic has to rub off on all the other guys around him. If he's out of the lineup, I'm guessing the rest of the Caps become so deflated. This one should be in the bag.

Ovechkin's my pick for sure but Malkin should get a closer look than thread is allowing. Being Crosby-less for 35% of the season and vaulting the Pens to the top of the division and with a chance to take the conference is no small feat. Is it smaller then taking the Caps out of the eastern division cellar and into the playoffs? Yes, but the Pens were left for dead when Crosby went down they not only didn't miss a beat, they improved.

1. Ovechkin (without a doubt)2. Malkin (the way he stepped up his game is remarkable)3. Kovalev (The habs aren't fighting for playoff spot without him, definitely carried this team)4. Iginla ( great season, deserves recognition)5. Joe Thornton ( a huge piece of the Sharks success)
