wsox8 10
Saw Mystic River. I thought it was pretty good but it moved too slow and was too long.
timwakefield 68
What's the deal with your sig pic?As Tanner said, it's Sonny Rollins. I think it's a great picture, with everybody around him giving varied reactions to his bizarre and hilarious fist pump. He's arriving at some ceremony in Europe to accept some kind of music award along with the guy on the right, Steve Reich, who I know nothing about except that he's also a musician. BigDMcGee 3,355
Are you throwing levels in the middle of serious posts now? That makes them more sneaky and I don't like that. You caught me.... but... some are actual levels, and some just seem like them, and one.. well.. I just don't really have a right answer for if it's a level or not, it's more complex than that:Fast and the Furious.... I think Vin Diesel is maybe the worst major actor of his generation. As such, I find his movies to be hysterically unintentionally funny. I think xXx is one of the most absurd, rediculous and enjoyable movies around. So.. am I legitimately excited to see the new Vin Diesel... well, no.. but I am illegitimately excited. and also, I legitimately, unironically love a good car chase. But I mean, I'd rather paper cut my eyeball than see angels and demons.

GeneralGeeWhiz 0
No, I haven't. I probably will. If you're implying that Eastwood deserves the oscar over Roarke, I would just say, I find that hard to imagine at this point, as I think Roarke did pretty much the greatest job of acting in the history of man in this movie. It makes Deniro's turn in Raging Bull seem like amateur hour. I thought De Niro's best performance was Taxi Driver.
lvpro 0
I saw Gran Torino today. I had super high expectations and it blew them away. Watch this movie as soon as possible. Simply awesome. My expectations were actually fairly low, but this was easily one of my favorite movies of 2008.
lvpro 0
The Wrestler.Get your money down on Mickey Roarke now for best actor, because holy fcking shit, that's the most amazing performance I've ever seen. Mind shatteringly good. Such a sad and fantastic movie. Wow. Just wow.Absolutely cannot wait to see this. I think it just opened in Seattle, so I'll be seeing it very soon. lvpro 0
Did you ever see a documentary about Jake the Snake Roberts in the 90's? I have no idea where or when I saw it, but it's my impression that the movie will be almost exactly like that documentary. I wouldn't be surprised if it was even based on it.EDIT: I looked it up... it was called Beyond the Mat. Did you ever see it?I went to the Seattle premiere of Beyond The Mat, and recently (within the last couple of months) re-watched it with my roommate. The other night, we saw the TV trailer for The Wrestler, and I asked him how much if it he thinks was influenced by Jake Roberts in Beyond The Mat. There definitely seems to be a striking similarity from what I've seen.
Swift_Psycho 1
Just saw Gran Turino. It was certainly a good film but I wasn't blown away or anything. As far as 2008 movies that Eastwood directed goes, I thought Changeling was better.

WageSlave 0
So I brokedown and watched Righteous Kill.Gripes:1) I had it figured out from the first time I saw the preview.2) Plot holes big enough for Jupiter to pass through comfortably. The whole frame up gun somehow relating to the poet's kills was so thin it only had one side. There was absolutely no foundation for that whatsoever. The other one that annoyed me was the whole coke snorting lawyer. 3) Phoning it in.Alternate ideas that may have made it more interesting: 1) If the would've slowly insinuated the coke snorting lawyer into De Niro's life more and more (I thought they might be going that direction when she just happened to show up at the softball game) eventually getting to the point where they are pretty tight friends and it turns out she's the killer and just getting close to De Niro to a] check the progress of the investigation and b] finally reveal herself to him because deep down she wanted to get caught. Not a stellar storyline but still had more potential to be interesting than the cliche they put out. 2) If the hispanic cop would've actually been framing De Niro because he was still pissed about Bobby stealing his sexually semi-deviant CSI girlfriend. Again, not a great story but at least would've been an actual twist not the bullshit they tried to pass off as a plot twist. I knew I should've skipped it.

brvheart 1,757
I just saw City of God for the first time. This one has been on my list for a long long time. It's another one that I had high expectations for going in. (I think it's in the top 20 on Imdb) Anyway, I have to say I was disappointed. I don't know what I was expecting, but as a straight drug war movie, I prefer Traffic. It was worth watching though and I would recommend it to most people. For me personally... 7/10. BigDMcGee 3,355
After seeing it on so many of the year's top5 lists, I broke down and saw Wal-E. I thought it was good, but not deserving of the massive universal praise that it gets. Maybe I need a kid to be able to appreciate how good a movie is that both parents and kids can enjoy. I thought it was definitely worthy of best foreign film oscar.I agree with everyone on Wall-E. I was mildly entertained, but it wasn't that awesome. My local newspaper named it the best film of 2008, bunch of BS.I saw Hitman and Biker Boyz (lol at boys with a z). I was at a hotel for a convention and nothing else was on. Hitman was entertaining I guess especially the fight scenes. Biker Boyz was fun because me and my roommate just made fun of everything that happened the whole entire movie. Just think The Fast and the Furious with souped up motorcycles and then you have Biker Boyz.
