mk 11
I don't consider these to be outside his comfort zone at all.I feel like Snatch has to be on the for Pitt.He is required to hit notes outside his comfort zone in each. In Collateral, he underplays everything, which was probably hard for him. In Eyes Wide Shut he has the meatiest acting scenes of his career, aside from Magnolia.I refuse to acknowledge the horror that is Snatch as a motion picture.
The Ocho 970
I refuse to acknowledge the horror that is Snatch as a motion picture. Now you have just gone too far. You love Magnolia, but hate Snatch? And, I have always though Pitt never took himself seriously, which is why he is great. The characters he plays in 12 Monkeys, Snatch, Burn, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, etc. They all have a gooofy charisma to them.
ShakeZuma 585
I think Pitt is great in everything he does. You guys are crazy.this is the correct answer.I refuse to acknowledge the horror that is Snatch as a motion picture.and this is the worst thing anybody has ever written including holocaust denials and maroon 5 lyrics. Mercury69 3
It's like this with Pitt and Cruise...Clooney, too, for that matter. They all work their charm, charisma and, yes, they can all act, but the bottom line is that they are usually remodeling themselves and their own personas slightly to fit the role better. Pitt probbaly has more range, followed by Cruise, but that doesn't mean that Clooney loses here. They are all worth watching in most roles, but if you think everything they do is fabulous, then you have a serious man-crush issue. Not that there's anything wrong with that.Pitt - Snatch, Fight Club, 7even, The Ass of Jesse JamesClooney - Michael Clayton, Out of Sight, Syriana, SolarisCruise - Risky Business, rainman, Magnolia, Mission Impossible (lol @ his salaries for these...MI1 - 70mm; MI2 - 75mm (both based on "gross participation"; MI3 - 75mm; MI4 - 12.5mm + % of the "back end"...mbn)
brvheart 1,760
followed by CruiseNo. Cruise loses to anyone else in the "range" discussion. Nic Cage has more range than Cruise.
Mercury69 3
No. Cruise loses to anyone else in the "range" discussion. Nic Cage has more range than Cruise.OK, but Cage is batshit crazy and doesn't care about image. Of course he'll have more range. Besides, he wasn't even part of the comparitive discussion.Cruise gets the nod over Clooney based on his Magnolia performance and his cameo in Tropic Thunder. Clooney has yet to parody himself, although i am reasonably sure he has a sense of humour...
DJ Vu 176
Clooney has yet to parody himself, although i am reasonably sure he has a sense of humour...O Brother Where Art Thou, Intolerable Cruelty, Fantastic Mr. Fox...his sense of humor is just fine thank you very much. Also, you left out Three Kings on Clooney's resume. Although I don't know what you were going for there.Edit: He's pretty funny in Ocean's Eleven too.2nd Edit: Upon further examination, Clooney is a great comedic actor. brvheart 1,760
I'm really confused on why that had to be further reviewed! You didn't even mention Burn After Reading!Clooney is hilarious and has WAY more range than Cruise.
DJ Vu 176
I'm really confused on why that had to be further reviewed! You didn't even mention Burn After Reading!Clooney is hilarious and has WAY more range than Cruise.Well, see, it went like this.1. Wait, "reasonably sure" he has a sense of humor?2. O Brother, that divorce lawyer character, fucking Mr. Fox!3. I need to post now!4. Oh, and Danny Ocean.5. I need to review his imdb page.6. Yeah, fuck, he's a really funny dude.I loved Burn After Reading. "Maybe I can get a run in."
Mercury69 3
<sigh> I never said Clooney wasn't funny. All three movies DJ Vu mentioned are comedies and they are not parodies (of Clooney). Cruise is the least comedic of the three, but his cameo in Tropic Thunder could be considered a parody of himself and his intensity. If you look at Clooney another way, try this:Clooney is our generation's Cary Grant. So, OK, fine...Clooney has more range than Cruise.
brvheart 1,760
his cameo in Tropic Thunder could be considered a parody of himself and his intensity. What!? I thought the Les character was very funny, especially when he did it live at that awards show, but there is no way he is parodying himself. Although I would give you, "not taking himself as seriously as he always has".So, OK, fine...Clooney has more range than Cruise.you forgot the "WAY" in there.
DJ Vu 176
Hey everyone, look at Mercury, he doesn't think George Clooney is funny!
SBriand 4
I think Clooney can be hilarious. I can't get enough of him in O Brother. I saw Shooter and Eagle Eye yesterday before the NYG/GB game. I love Shooter for some reason. I watch it almost everytime it is on. It's not a great movie but I think it is far more entertaining than some of the so called hot action flicks. I think I saw Eagle Eye before, but I enjoyed it either way.I also DVR'ed Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy and also Meet the Invisible Man. I loved those movies growing up and am excited to watch them again.
