It makes it correct to call a bigger opener. People tend to to call big openers in normal 1/2, so it's probably a less profitable structure for a patient player. It's not a huge difference, so don't overdo it.

Hi All,The only no-limit hold 'em game my local casino only offers has 1-2-2 blinds. I've never played blinds like this, with two big blinds, and my google search turned up nothing. I assume they do it to get more action? Also, any tips on how to adjust play for them? Thanks,Dan
Your best bet for a serious response is NL Hold'em strat. I know nothing on the subject, myself. Sorry.

I stand corrected.

its odd. it should be 1/2/5... the 3rd blind is a mandatory straddle
That isn't what 1/2/5 is.It's basically 2/5NL with 1/2 blinds, if you want to see the flop, the minimum bring-in is $5, if you want to fold your crappy blind hand then it only costs you the $1 or $2. There is no option on the big blind, you have to minimum call $3 more to see the flop. Gets you some more play out of your $2/5NL stack so the blinds don't chew you up as fast, but the game still plays and pays like $2/5

yes it is just a third blind. we had a fun game one night for a bit at the grey eagle here in calgary that was 1/2/5/10. the 10$ blind didnt have option though, which sort of blew and just made it a dark minraise in essence. we even had a few hands where it was 1/2/5/10/20, again, the minimum bet on the flop/etc was only $5 though. its so fun playing with asians

? I'm confused by this statement. How is paying an extra blind each round result in the "blinds don't chew you up as fast?" Wouldn't it be the opposite?Am I reading something wrong? I've never played a 3 blind cash game so I have no experience on the situation, just trying to make sense of it.

Are you talking about the Spread Limit $1-$1-$2 Blinds, $4 to open games at Lucky Chances in colma?

I believe it's still only two blinds. 1/2. But the min opener is $5. So if the UTG wants to play it is a min raise to $5. There is no third $5 blind.

Essentially the blinds are 1/2 when you dont wanna play (you just fold), and 2/5 when you wanna play (you must call min. of $5). So it costs you less to fold, but you win the same as a normal 2/5 game.

Hi! Bay Area Poker guy. What Casino are you playing at?The world of spread limit hold em....ahhhh, how nice. Anyway, it is about the rake...the bring in is $4 at GC, Bay 101, and LC. Artichoke Joe's and Oak's are all limit...that leaves you playing out at Napa or the Palace? The Palace is a hole and I recommend you run like hell before they gang up on you.To explain to the crowd, spread limit incorporates a cap on a single bet of $200. That is not a full $200 cap...its just the most you can bet. A really lively 1-1-2 and defiantly a 2-3-5 game plays like no limit preflop and 200-400 limit post flop. It really isn't that different from standard no limit, just not that a bet of 12-15 is a standard opener with 3-5 seeing a flop at most of these places. It makes it a real "hit a hand, bet a hand" strategy transparent but effective.Cheers.

I play mostly at Garden City. They have done some major improvements to the club, it looks nice. They took out the bar/restaurant and put in more tables. The rake is oppressive, still. The Palace is a dive, no doubt about it, but, if you park right (close) and don't dick around getting out, it's ok. Big rake there, too, but, you at least get a shot at a BB Jackpot for what's usually around $135,000. They run two at a time, so when the big one gets hit the new one is around $70,000.The Bay 101 has huge waits. It's a very nice club with state of the art security. Every inch is covered by cameras. Some knuckle heads tried to rob it once, and the San Jose cops use the tapes for training now.
