San Jose Mercury News, April 1 2008"In an odd story today that could be tallied into the "local sports" column, poker pro Phil Hellmuth Jr. of Palo Alto, announced that he would be breaking affiliation with the online poker site, Ultimate Bet. In the wake of cheating scandals and business malfeasance cases, it seems like this verbose professional could no longer see himself as the spokesman for the group."I am an 11 time World Series of Poker bracelet winner and the greatest Hold 'Em player ever to come on to the tournament scene. How can I continue to be affiliated with a company with so many problems? Of course, I still fully endorse my other products such as Pro Player Energy Drink, iAmplify and..."Phil Hellmuth made a splash at last years World Series of Poker when he crashed an Ultimate Bet emblazoned race car in the parking lot of the Rio hotel & casino and paraded into the tournament area surrounded by spokesmodels in slinky attire that matched his own Ultimate Bet driver's suit, each one representing one of his championship bracelet wins. Phil, also known as "The Poker Brat" for his loud and virulent tantrums, is known as a king of self promotion, but it looks like even poker players have a price for their dignity."And you thought he was just a douche right?
