Lhe Challenge(?) Thread

I have some questions about table selection - how do you decide which table to play?Do you take any one with an open seat at the limit you want to play?Do you look for a specific fish and sit as his table?Do you look at the % of players seeing flop and average pot size some sites advertise?Do you look at the table raking on www.pokertableratings.com? If this one, do you use their table rating and pick any that have a green rating, or do you look at their VP$IP, PRF, and Aggr values?Peace,Opie
1) depends on how many hands on the player that is to my right and two seats to my right. If there is a weaker player two seats to my right and a fairly knowledgeable player immeaditely to my right, that seat is no good. But, if they are a standard tag that can't adjust, then that seat is fairly good2) not really, there are enough fish short handed to really pick on one specific player for the most part. When it gets the the higher limits, picking on one player works3) in a sense yes, but there are un-named sites that do a great job at giving you good tables

hey im looking for a bit of advice, recently i've been pretty flexible with my roll and just playing w/e i want too lol but i only sit in the games if they're going to be profitable, i've been playing some 5/10 FR and SH and was wondering if its profitable in the long run to isolate limpers with small pairs, because a lot of the time im finding im isolating and twhen they donk when i dont hit a set i kind of have a dilema on my hands and it puts me in a tough spot like 80% of the time,is it good to isolate with them or should i just be limping along and trying to get a multi way pot going and try to flop a set?chris

How often do you really see a spot with limpers at 5/10? Nonetheless, I'd be ecstatic that they're donking a ton when I have a pair in a HU pot.

Is there another forum where everybody went? I remember Dinkdonk posting some strategy from another thread, but I've never found another thread for limit hold'em. Anyways I haven't posted much at all here, but I've followed along for almost the whole time, and I want to thank all of that contributed if this thread is dead and not coming back. This is pretty much the only one I've ever spent more than a day reading. I think most of you were very intelligent poker wise and though I mostly play mixed games instead of straight limit hold'em, yall have really helped my hold'em game.

You should have contributed when you had the chance, instead of free riding, and then maybe you'd still be getting LHE goodies if you had. Sunrise, sunset.

  • 3 weeks later...

It looks like this thread has died, but I'm going to post in it just because I have a funny story from my 3/6 game at the Casino tonight. I will relate the story when I wake up...I'm sure all of FCP will be on here waiting with bated breath.

All right, so last night I go out to my local casino to play 3/6 as I do every few weeks. I start out in the 2/4 game b/c they haven't started a 3/6 yet and for the first time ever, I had some success at 2/4 (winning $120 in a couple of hours). So, I sit down at 3/6 ahead on the night and things start going my way pretty early on. The game has a half kill if you win two pots in a row, and I won 2 kill pots in a row, then picked up KK on the third kill pot and got snapped off by T2s (from a player that I'd previously had some respect for...not anymore). Anyway, I was rolling pretty good, huge mountain of white chips when one of the funnier and more ironic moments at a 3/6 table happened. The 1 seat was a donkey that had been talking alot and thought he knew how to play the game, but didn't really completely get it. Seat 8 was a donkey who called way too much, but generally only bet when he had something...pretty easy player to read. So, I'm in the BB and I pick up 25o several people limp and I of course check. Flop comes out 348 rainbow, SB checks, I check, one more check and seat 8 bets it, seat 1 calls, seat 2 calls, SB calls, I call (no brainer of course). Turn is a Jack, it checks around to seat 8 who bets again, seat 1 calls again, as do a couple others and I call. River is an Ace (giving me a very well disguised straight), we check it to seat 8 who bets again, seat 1 calls, and I raise, seat 8 calls, but seat 1 folds...and I win the pot with 25o. Then came the funny and ironic part....seat 1 commences to complain about how he thought I was a good player and now he knows I'm a bad players who was just getting lucky earlier and will call with anything. He claims that he had flopped a set in that pot continues to complain about what a horrible beat it was and what a bad play I made by insta-calling twice with an OESD. Of course, the massive irony of the situation is that had he not played his set like a moneky and raised either the flop or the turn, he would have been in a position to give me much worse drawing odds and possibly even bet me out of the pot. But, since he decided to just play call along like an idiot, he gave me the opportunity to draw out on him and do so very profitably. This is why I love live poker.

b/3b the flop, cincy :)for the record, too, i did actually get a day job.
heh....can't lose my little fishies, plus I'm a scared little girl until I make my hand...probably why I will never make the big time in poker.Oh and day jobs are for suckers...seriously though, don't let the man keep you down. We all have to work for a living and let's face it, a day job might even be less stressful than trying to grind poker. GL.
Mountains of white chips are fun. lolHeaven would be playing online vs the people that populate live lhe games.
Yeah, almost $400 in white chips on the table at one point. Always nice, though ultimately rather futile when I think about the times I've had a lot more actual money than that on a table, just in bigger denominations. Really, I think heaven would be playing online OR live against the kind of people (and play) that populate live 3/6, but playing for money that actually matters.

Heaven on earth existed in 2003 but I was too stupid to take advantage. :(And thanks for bumping the thread. I'm gonna read it when driving across the country this weekend.

I discovered marijuana and now play very little poker.
I was just reading throught the thread yesterday and stumbled upon this:
DinkDonk -------- (checkymcfold @ Wednesday, September 17th, 2008, 12:11 AM) tell your gf to bring some over, cuz i don't know anybody here, really -----------Neither of us smokes, but she does live next door to a drug dealer. Oddly, I've actually never smoked pot in my life. I probably will sometime in the near future though.
:club: RIP DD's 50k hand months.I also ran across a funny Dutch post from when he discovered 6 max.
