Seriously, I may disagree COMPLETELY with his politics, but he is definitely a classy guy all the way. Very impressed with his words today. Anyone else see it?
Great speach, very likeable guy, super down to earth.Didn't think he had a snowballs chance though.edit: Huckabee McCains VP Pick? That would be a tough ticket. Wonder who Mc Cain will pick?Dems are going down to the wire (convention) it looks like...

Seriously, if he chooses Huckabee I think it's all over. Huckabee OWNS the Evangelical vote that may see McCain as too liberal. That's a ticket I'm definitely afraid of on both fronts. I like Huckabee, but would hate to see him in a powerful position as it will continue to blur the separation between Church and State.

With Huckabee, there would not be a blur between church and state. They would be one and the same:

I never knew that you were against the separation of Church and State. I would have thought that as a Christian, you would be totally against that separation.

I'll explain this more later. The thing is, most Christians don't even understand that the separation of Church and State benefits them! Without such separation, government would have the right to make it "illegal" to worship. They could make it a crime to either be an Atheist or be a Christian. The separation of Church and State allows Churches to teach and believe what they wish without the government meddling with it. The right wants more power though, and they started the meddling with government in the Fallwell days and before.

I believe that is the entire point of the separation. If everyone could do their own thing, believe what they want to believe, without forching that on everyone else, the world would be a better place. The separation of Church and state in no way inhibits personal rights to beliefs, and in fact the lack of this separation would actuallyhinder those rights.

I am a Christian and I totally agree with you on this. I just can't understand these people that want to push church into government. That's a big part of what the American Revolution was all about. The pilgrims etc came to America to escape persecution of them by the state religion of England at that time. If anyone wants to know what having church and state mixed up in the same government then read some of Alison Weir's books on English history. I'm pretty sure it wasn't her intention in writing the books but after I'd read them, I became a strong strong advocate of separation of church and state. Henry the Eighth, A King and His Court; Six Wives of Henry the Eighth; Children of Henry the Eighth; The Life of Elizabeth the First; Mary, Queen of Scots and the Murder of Lord Darnley; Queen Isabella, Treachery, Adultery and Murder in Medievel England. Lol those are the ones I've read so far. She has written many more besides. As you can see I'm a history buff. And if history should have taught us one thing it's that mixing church and government ends up in tyranny.

People forget this, but back in the day (i.e., Shakespeare's day), there was no separation of church and state. In fact, technically England still doesn't have it -- one of the Queen's titles is "Defender of the Faith." Anyway, back when they took that seriously, the faith of the monarch was YOUR faith -- or else. Unfortunately for the Brits, England was whipsawed in the span of four monarchs from Catholic, to Anglican, to devoutly Catholic and executing Protestants, to devoutly Protestant and executing Catholics. This was all within the span of two generations total, so the faith of your fathers was NOT a faith you were allowed to have. Shakespeare's family, most historians now agree, were closet Catholics, risking jail, fines, and execution. [stephen Greenblatt's Will in the World is an outstanding page-turner of a book on this subject.]The reasoning behind this was pretty simple from the monarch's point of view: since the king or queen defined what the national faith was, if you chose to defy them by believing what you had been raised to believe, or what your understanding of God led you to believe -- well, then, you were in direct defiance of the monarchy. There's a word for that. It's treason. And there's a punishment for that, and it's beheading. We won't (I hope) go back to beheading, but the logic is perfectly simple that if there is no separation of church and state, then defying the state is an act of treason. This "logic" so horrified the Founding Fathers that it was one of the first liberties they enshrined. They believed, rightly, that you should never have to choose between your conscience and your country. Rest assured, those who want to do away with the separation would eventually make you choose.

Good Lord, man, are there no feminists in your family at all? Do what feminists do when we don't like a woman -- call her an a$$hole. There's no need to make it a slur that specifically attacks her gender -- unless you dislike what she says only because she's a woman saying it instead of a man. I don't think that's the case. If you've got something to say about our minds, don't address your remarks to our crotch.

Lucky I didn't use the c-word lol. That's actually the word I was thinking but thought it would be a bit strong. The word bitch best describes my views of her so I thought it was appropriate.

I'm not mad, but not entirely kidding, either, because it is part and parcel of sexism. But no kidding, feminists call other women a$$hole ALL the time when we disagree.

I thnk you need to re-examine some of the core beliefs of conservatives vs. liberals. You are backwards in your assertion. I really don't like any of the candidates, but since I can't advocate Socialism, I can't see voting for Obama or Hillary.
