wrto4556 0
This book has changed my game, for the better, more than any other book I have ever read. I am in tune with my self as a poker player. I can't even begin to explain how well this book exploited the mental side of poker. Poker is not all math and numbers...and this book is the one to prove it. I reccomend it to anyone and everyone.
rxq 0
I have his book the Tao of Poker, which I have heard is basically the same as Zen of the Art of Poker. Great Tips. Another book that I recommend that in the same vein is : Caro's Fundamental Secrets of Winning Poker.
JaysonWeber 0
It's a good book to read especially for people who begin online and move to live-action games, or from tournaments to cash games, where you have fewer chips in many cases. I enjoy the book because it really teaches you to self-analyze, which is truly most people's largest problem in poker if you'd ask me. So for that reason, the little book is worth the 12 or 13 dollars it costs to buy.

wrto4556 0
It applies to all forms of poker. It's not a book that says: "play this here, raise that there. pot odds...etc"It's more about the mental side of poker. How to stay off tilt, how to take bad beats....It talks about the mental state you have to be in to play your "best" game at all times. It's good for any player.

Phil Henke 0
This book is really good. I think that it goes in depth on a very important subject which is emotional control. It really gets you to think about your emotional state when playing and realizing how your emotions can destroy your decision making process. I would strongly reccommend it to any player. Degueldre 0
I also grately benefited from Phillips' Zen and the art of poker as well as his The tao of poker. Both books jibe well with what Annie Duke recently stated in a Card Player interview that of all the psychology that is needed to do well in poker one must learn to master ones own psychology first. And that is coming from a women who quit a Ph.D program in psychology to pursue poker. More over her brother Howard often speaks about about Zen in cardplaying and refers to a book titled "Zen in the Art of Archer, " by Eugen Herrigel to make analogies. I read it and gained some insights.
ThePokerGeek 0
I try to flip through "Zen..." before every multi that I enter. It's part of getting my mind in the right place before I start. The biggest problem I always had when I started out, like many players, was playing hands out of boredom after folding over and over.... "Zen" covers how to stay patient and focused and wait for the right cards to come.I reccomend it more than any other poker book in my library... but my poker library isn't that big, so take that as you will.-PokerGeek
MightyKC7 0
I am new to poker and this book help me very much.I have been involved in the martial arts for almost 15 years but recently was injured and sidelined for at least a year (doing home repairs, not martial arts! Always check that your ladder is secure!). I turned to online poker as a new pastime. When I first started playing I had serious problems with controlling emotions. This book helped me to control those problems in a way I related to easily (martial arts). The truths he lays out in the book are the same for poker as they were for when I was fighting effectively, as they are for any skilled endeavor.
Stang 0
All I know is I tried to "tune in" to the Zen while watching bad hand after bad hand, bad beat after bad beat, saying to myself "the Zen says it come around. Well dammit it didn't. I cursed the book all the home from Foxwoods. I say go ahead and play pissed, and let the other players know you are pissed. Play right though. They will assume you are playing on tilt, cause you are acting on tilt.
sydzee 0
i love the book. the premise like many of you have stated is self awareness and awareness of all opponents in general. it helps you avoid the tilt factor and makes you aware when you are on tilt so you can walk away from the game. if you can master or at least apply many of the concepts you will save a lot of money in bad play and it will separate you from all of the long term losing players.merely reading it like all of the poker literature will not make you a better play the art is truly being able to apply it when things are going horribly at the table. It is a difficult thing to do which is why there are so few real pros who can grind it out day after day. i recommend it.Syd
