The Steven Stamkos Sweepstakes

Recommended Posts

According to NHL 09 Crosby's Offensive Awareness is 99 and Defensive Awareness is 92. Toews is 90 and 79 respectively. Just saying. :)I can't find Stamkos as he wasn't in the game upon release. I'll try to remember to look for him since the rosters were updated.
LOL... well, I'll obviously defer to a ranking done by a video game.... :club:

I like this kid actually...I think he will be a Maple Leaf as soon as free agency kicks him for him in 7 years...Thought of another angle that we could pursue..You have to play for the NHL city that you were born or grew up in..Sort of like Olympics but with cities..We will see how many games San Jose and Nashville will win then. :club:

Ya I don't like that idea. Ryan Malone, RJ Umberger, Bill Thomas, George Parros...and that's about it. Let's say you only let Americans play for the Pens...we're down to Jeff Taffe, Eaton, Gill, Goligoski, Orpik, Scuderi, Whitney.

I saw one of the best pre-season news pieces on the Oliers, where Gagner and I think Cogliano were talking about how Gagner found it funny (read pissed) that NHL 09 had him ranked low, and way lower than Cogliano. Since both pay the game a lot, Gagner said he'd prove it by outplaying Cogs with in the game. Also, he implied this will be motivation for him. lol.

One of the stupidest moves in hockey....Bench an 18 year old....Instead of sending him down to the minors..
You got to wonder why they didn't make him avaliable for the WJHC? I believe he would have learned more there than siting in the TB dressing room and press box.

they handcuffed themselves by marketing him so hard. can't send the kid down when you sold season tickets whilst implying you drafted the next crosby.

They're just letting him ease into the longer schedule. What's junior, like 60 games? They said that he would never be scratched back to back games, but the odd one, as he improves his conditioning. Makes sense to me.It's not like having him play 60 games in junior is going to be that much better for his development than playing 72 out of 82 games or whatever in the NHL. In fact, I'd probably prefer the NHL experience, myself.

Other than Daigle, isn't Brian Lawton considered one of the biggest busts for a 1st overall pick? You would think he would know how handle Stamkos better. Then again it doesn't really seem like he is making the final decisions over there.

All I know is I really hope he finds himself scratched out of 11 more games down the stretch. :club:

Patrik Stephan?Though he was from a 'bad' draft while Diagle wasn't.

The WHL plays 72 games a year. I presume the OHL does too.

I understand not sending him down. That is why sending him to the World Juniors would have been a good chance for him to get some great tice time and development that he obviously still needs.

As far as I know the OHL has a 66 game regular season schedule.
The OHL and QMJHL have 68 games. I think in the last five years, the QMJHL moved from 72 games, down to 70 games, now at 68. I'm not sure about the history of the other two leagues.

haha, I guess I'm showing my age there. It says that the OHL went from a 66 game schedule to a 68 game schedule in 1998-99.

I guess we must be around the same age because I would have said 66 as well.
