Even if he's getting old, you can sign a max of 7 years, right?

 

The Leafs have proven that you can trade any contract. Probably a decent value in getting his first 3-4 years even with the added cost of trading him later (assuming it's a pure salary dump and you pay some of it or take back a contract etc).

 

The kids are just kids, but primes come so early these days, and they'll be cheap for the first 3 years...
