Day 9:Full Sail Amber Alehttp://www.fullsailbrewing.com/default.cfm5.50% ABVFSAmberPint.jpg557.jpg

Full Sail Brewing Company is an employee-owned brewery in Hood River, Oregon and was one of the first of Oregon's microbreweries. In July 2003, Full Sail began brewing three beers for SABMiller under the almost 150 year-old Henry Weinhard's brand: Henry Weinhard's Hefeweizen, Northwest Trail Blonde Lager, and Amber Light. SABMiller had purchased the brands from Stroh's in 1999, and for a few years had moved their production to its Tumwater, Washington brewery until it closed that location in 2003. Though it does not have stock in Full Sail, SABMiller did make capital investments in the brewery as part of the agreement. The Full Sail brewery is known for its quality micro brewed beers most notably its trademark amber ale. Full Sail is located in the Columbia Gorge in the town of Hood River, which looks up at the popular Oregon mountain Mount Hood. Full Sail is centrally located in the quiet downtown area of Hood River. The brewery is two stories with the actual breweries on the bottom floor and a variety of Full Sail micro brews served on tap on the brewery's second floor. The second floor of the Full Sail Brewery is a desirable eatery frequented by the locals and tourists alike who come to enjoy the distinctive Full Sail beers as well as tasteful barbecue that is served during lunch and dinner hours. The brewery's second floor is also equipped with an outdoor deck which is a popular summer spot for locals to hang out and enjoy an enticing view of the Columbia River while having one of the brewery's tasty beers. The Full Sail brewery has earned many distinguished honors in recognition for the taste of many of their quality beers. These honors include:Ten Gold Medals for its trademark Amber Ale at the World Beer Championships. A Bronze Medal for its newly released lager.
This is my go to beer (it does not hurt that Trader Joe always has it for $5.69 a 6 pack). Same as my last beer, this is not really a beer that I have gotten smashed on, I enjoy it for a slight buzz and its refreshing flavor.Very smooth Amber Ale. Its finishes with a mild bitterness but has a pleasant aftertase. Not too hoppy.El Guapo's rating 9.5/10

Day 10Widmer HefeweizenABV 4.7%Widmer's Home Pageage_hef.jpg

In 1986 the Widmer Brothers introduced their Hefeweizen to America and since then has gained much popularity throughout the states. It has become famous for their unique speciality brews. The extravagant Joe Casey is the company's most famous brewmeister, noted for sporting a bald head and soul patch. Some people have mistakenly mentioned that Budweiser owns Widmer; this is not true. In the late 90's, Anheuser-Busch bought a stake in the company, approximately 25%, which allowed for greater distribution. The company is still fully operated by Kurt and Rob Widmer. Another interesting note is that on the eastern seaboard, it can be difficult to find Widmer Hefeweizen, but it is possible. However, it is not brewed by Widmer, but rather by RedHook Brewing Company which is also partially owned by Anheuser-Busch.
El Guapo's ranking 8.5/10This is my favortie Hefeweizen. Best enjoyed if you pour in a large glass as shown above and rub a lemon around the rim, then put the rest in the beer. Beer Story: I was drinking these with my old roomate and my g/f now wife and she was having a boones farm fuzzy navel. (I know high class) My wife was a one beer drunk. But to make it worse she had taken a hydroxycut earlier that day while working out, so she drank the neck off a Boones farm, and my buddy and I drank about a case and a half of the Hefe. We are sitting in our kitchen and his mom stops by. We are sloshed at this point and my g/f is groping me something furious wanting to go into the bedroom, all in front of my roomates mom, whom I have known since I was 13. I have never uttered a swear word in front of the woman, but in the span of 30 minutes dropped 2 F-Bombs. You could here a pin drop each time. Not that my friends mom is Mother Theresa, but it was just something we did not do. I still have not lived that down, and gets brought up quite frequently. Not really a crazy story but it does end up with sex and lots of inebration, so thats good.

Day #11Oldie but goodie?Lucky Lager180px-Luckylager.jpgLucky%20Lager1.jpgABV 4.73%

HistoryLucky Lager was first commercially introduced in 1934. Short version of the Lucky Lager story: the brand was founded by General Brewing in California. This was folded into a consortium led by three BC breweries. General Brewing later split off from the consortium and was eventually brought into the Pabst fold. The BC breweries later became Labatt's and thus there are two lines of ownership of the Lucky Lager brand. The Labatt brand is today more prevalent in Canada, especially the west coast and Ontario.[edit]BreweriesLucky Lager Brewing opened a second brewery in Azusa, California in 1949, and bought smaller breweries in Vancouver, Washington in 1950 and in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1960. Thus, Lucky Lager was made at four breweries during the brand's heyday and was a popular regional Western United States brand. The Salt Lake City brewery was closed in 1967.[1]Lucky Lager Brewing changed their name back to General Brewing between 1963 and 1969, and then changed the name to Lucky Breweries, Inc. in 1969.During the late 1960s Lucky Lager's market share faltered among younger drinkers. This led to the ill-fated introduction of King Snedley's Beer. According to some accounts King Snedley's was just Lucky Lager repackaged with a different brand and marketed toward counterculture hipsters. The new brand flopped and was withdrawn from the market. In 1971, millionaire beer baron Paul Kalmanovitz bought Lucky Lager Brewing and - again - changed the name back to General Brewing Company. The Azusa, CA brewery was closed immediately. The San Francisco brewery was closed in 1978. This left Vancouver, WA as the only location where Lucky Lager was brewed.[2]After the Vancouver brewery shut down in July 1985 , the Olympia Brewing Company brewery in Tumwater, WA began to produce this lager. On July, 1 2003 this brewery was also closed. Since then, Lucky Lager has been brewed in Irwindale, CA (along with other brands such as Olympia and Rainier brands).[edit] BottlesLucky Lager was once famous for its in 11oz stubby bottles featuring a rebus under the cap. Since the closure of the Tumwater brewery, this famous bottle has been discontinued. The label for Lucky Lager has also seen many changes. In the 1950s the big red X was made less prominent, but it still remained on the labels and on advertising. In 1957 the X was reduced in size somewhat; the same logo, different size. In 1962 the label was again redesigned and the X was made smaller still, although it was still the design's focus. This can with the smaller "X" is sometimes called the 'bug' can by collectors because there is a small "dated" seal that can appear on different spots on the label, like a bug moving around. The "bug" design was then replaced by a label that got rid of the "X" entirely and replaced it with a large "L".The "L" was written in the cursive form with the rest of the letters following. The origin and reason for this new design (X to L) is somewhat unknown, but is said to have been created by the son of a Lucky Lager distributor in the Northwest.[edit] AvailabilityIn recent years, the popularity of the beer has declined, but in selected areas in North America, the beer is still available. Lucky is commonly found all across Southern British Columbia. It enjoys an extremely dedicated following on Vancouver Island, and, though generally considered a "non-premium" beer, is consumed with an almost religious dedication in many southern BC resource towns such as Ucluelet, Cumberland, Port Hardy, and Port Alberni. (As a side note, Labatt Brewing Company declared Cumberland, BC to be the "Luckiest Town in Canada" in early 2002 due to its incredible rate of consumption). Labatt markets Lucky Lager as a budget brand in Alberta and Ontario. Lucky Lager can also be found in certain areas of the United States, most commonly Michigan.
El Guapos rating 3.5/10 flavor 11/10 for coolnessWho doesn't like the 11oz stubby beer where the bottle caps have trivia? Used to be able to get a case (24) of these for like $14. I would not know where to find these as I have not had one since I was a teenager. On there rare occasion we could find these, we would drink them by the cases.

The following information is correct for Ontario, and applies mostly (no guarantees) to other provinces.Beer is ONLY available for home consumption at Beer Stores..a gov't run co-operative, basically, that only sells beer, both domestic and import.. and at LCBO (stores that sell hard liquor/wine and a more limited selection of beer, usually imported).Beer in Ontario, at least, is NOT sold at corner stores or at bars to take home. I believe it's sold at corner stores in Quebec..and in some western provinces it's available at bars to be brought home.In general, Canadian beer is a little stronger than American mass-produced beer, both in alc. content and taste. Many Canadians find mass-produced American beer a little thin and watery.Liquor laws in Ontario are still pretty strict, although the drinking age is 19. There's no free booze at casinos in Ontario and the "Happy Hour" concept of free or discounted drinks is illegal. Bars can't have any kind of sale or discount of alcohol. Usually food is discounted to get around this, half-price aps and such. Restaurants will offer "pitcher and wings" type deals as well.
Beer can be purchased at any convenience store in Newfoundland. I believe this is true of Quebec also.I like Steam Whistle. Guiness is disgusting. (at least the 1st one is)

Day 12Sacramento Bewing Company -Red Hose Alered_horse_ale.jpgSacramentoBC.gifhttp://www.sacbrew.com/6.2% abv

RED HORSE ALE - Named after the Air Force's Rapid Engineering deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineering...This classic Northern California brew has a deep amber color and has been aggressively dry hopped. Available in 22oz and six packs.
This is one of my favorites. I do not know how widley distributed this beer is, because I have lived within 90 minutes of Sacramento pretty much my entire life, so this is readilly available to me. Pours a dark amber colour with a thick and creamy off white head. Nice scent of hops and maybe a touch of caramel malts. Taste like an IPA but not as bitter. Very smooth hop flavor. Definetly a taste of sweetness at first but is quicky dominated by the hops. El Guapos rating 9/10. We have polished half Kegs of this off with 5 guys before you can just drink and drink and drink this stuff. For about a year in college this was our go to beer. Also we susbtituted this for Harp or Bass in Black and Tans before, which was suprisingly great. We called em black and reds. After a while of us ordering them, you could get them at some of the local Sacramento bars we went to. Not sure if that was because of us, but I'd like to think so.

It's been forever and a day since I've posted but I couldn't help myself since I love Guinness.I'm quite surprised that I have yet to see Stella Artois on Tap. I don't much care for the bottled stuff but the stuff on tap has a completely different taste and is always the first thing I ask if they have unless of course it's st. paddy's. I understand that these are mostly darker ales and stouts but I believe there is also a placefor beach beer ( I just can't hack a thick drink in tha hot weather on the beach ). I have a few faves but won't turn this post into a "these are the beers that should be in here" post. Great thread
