Bankroll Management

Hey everyone,I have $400.00 to invest in playing poker. Like a lot of people I only have experience in Holdem, although I am trying to get into Seven card stud, but that is another subject. I know that as a rule of thumb 300xBB for Limit is the way to go, however I am extremely confused on what I should do about NL. I am a fairly tight player I try voluntarily bet preflop 12-15%, so I was thinking 500xBB, however even when people on these boards speak of NL ring games they phrase the recommedation as 100 buy-ins...wouldn't that be 100x100 so 10,000BB?? That just doesn't seem to be correct. The other question is I have heard the phrase a lot of times as trying to win "one big bet an hour", how much is that big bet? Would it be $2 in a 1/2 Limit HE? What about NLHE how much is it then? I can tell you my goal by the fall season is to be consistantly making $12.00/hr playing online. Lastly, would I be foolish to play NLHE if I am playing to make money (opposed to recreational) and by this I will only play when well-rested, etc., should I stick to Limit until I build my BR or what? I just find Limit holdem to be so drawn out and boring, but what is more boring is not playing cause some fish raised me all in and got lucky on the river LOLAnd before you chargrill me for starting a new thread I would like to mention I have been trying to research this on my own for about two weeks I just cannot find a reliable or consistent answer. If you need any other information for a more in-depth answer I am happy to oblige. Thanks,Levin

1st off, if you have been looking for 2 weeks now, you would have seen this thread located just a few threads below yours.http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...howtopic=117104It discusses bankroll MGMT. you think of poker rolls in terms of BB's for limit, and buy-ins for NL. For NL, it is possible to play with 20 buy-ins. 30 is considered to be a great "safe" number. At the high stakes, they stick to 40+ due to more variance (since skill gap isn't that great)A "big bet" is a term used mainly when tracking stats on pokertracker. A big bet is equal to TWO times the big blind. So in a 1/2 limit game, it is $2. In a 1/2 NL game it is $4. If you are not comfortable playing NL cash games, try small stakes NL until you are comfortable. This means play 5NL (0.02/0.05 blinds) or even 10NL (since you have 40 buy-ins). If limit is your bread and butter, by all means keep playing it.

I had already read that post and the post that is linked inside of that one, no I didn't read all of the one inside because they were talking about PLO and another game that had nothing to do with what I was searching. With that said I still don't know what the buy-in deal is...would that be 30 buy-ins of $200 in a 1/2 NLHE? Here is a chart that I have found the most helpful so far but don't know how accurate it is:Game...........................Limit..........................Minimum bankroll Limit Texas Hold'em ....................................$.5-$1......................$300-$500 ....................................$1-$2 ......................$600-$1000 ....................................$3-$6...................... $1,800-$3,000 ....................................$5-$10.....................$3,000-$5,000 ....................................$15-$30....................$9,000-$15,000 ....................................$30-$60....................$18,000-$30,000 No-Limit Texas Hold'em ....................................$.25-$0.50................ $500-$1,000 ....................................$.5-$1...................... $1,000-$2,000 ....................................$1-$2 ......................$2,000-$4,000 ....................................$2-$4...................... $4,000-$8,000 ....................................$5-$10.....................$10,000-$20,000

I don't know anything about LHE, but this NL numbers are retarded. 10-20 buyins is bankroll suicide.

I think you should definitely have 40+ buyins at .50/1.00 NL and higher, especially for confidence purposes. I generally start taking shots at 30-35 buyins and move up full-time around 35-40.

When it comes to cash game and sng, my general rule is no more than 5% of your entire bankroll.I never play in an MTT which costs more than 2% of my bankroll to enter.I have been playing professonally now for 3 years and have not gone broke once using this rule.

I can't offer advice on LIMIT. But for no limit, if you have $400, start at 5c/10c. $10 buy in.......Then grind to $500 to make sure you can actually win consistently....then move up to 10c/25c when u hit 500, and move back down if your losing.Thats what i'd do....GL

I haven't decided who owns this troll account, but I find the posts to be rude, offensive, and completely lacking in any humour whatsoever. I am adding this user to my PM block list, ignoring all posts by this user and hope that the mods find it in their infinite wisdom to ban this IP address.
