Royal_Tour 0
what a ****ing joke tournaments are.seriously, when you boil them down, they are honestly the biggest joke with poker.500 players, 330 buy in. top 45 get paid. I double up my first hour with AK. @ 12k. go card dead for an hour. pick up a hand like QcJc, flop AcKc,9d. and go brick brick. steal some pots to get back to 12k.go card dead for another 2 hours. finally pick up KK. double up, at 23k. go card dead for an hour again and blinds are 1200/600get no opportunity to steal, or re-steal. finally on the button with 10,10 and 18k. folds around to Cut off who has the chip lead at our table and he makes a standard raise to 3200. I shovel, and BB wakes up with KK. .BB has 20k. KK holds, and i'm out.6 hours. 400 players, and i bust in 100th after making zero mistakes, IMO. no fuuuucking skill to tournaments. jmkiser 0
lolI'm putting way too much into those entries. I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up that kind of a pace, but I'm going to post a little more formal and a little easier on me because I don't want to stop and just give up on it.Online .25/.50 FTP fr lhe -February as of today - 1566 hands - +8.8BBI put in a session today and I need to do the same tomorrowLive 4/8 Golden West Casino lhe 02/08/08-Since my bankroll was at 2059, I figured I would take a shot in some 4/8. WOW! Another incredible day like I haven't had before. Royal_Tour 0
I just think that your post basically said "tournaments = luck" which equates to "poker = luck" which is just stupid.no, just that in tournaments, like cash games, and all poker games, there is skill and optimal ways to play hands. or situations.but the downside "IMO" is that unlike a cash game cooler, like JJ vs 9,10 on a 7,8,J board. Tournaments are home to many more coolers due to the fact that blinds and such. and coolers as we know, are unavoidable. and anything that is unavoidable is luck, therefor much more luck. I do believe that if u were a sick tourney player and u played a couple a day, u could probably do really well. like annette_15 for example. but apples and oranges, and blah blah.I was also steamed from just getting knocked out, if u couldnt telll
cwik 0
LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yeah, Allen Cunningham and all of those donks who've made millions of dollars and FT after FT are all just lucky.Jerry Yang, Jammie Gold, Chris Moneymaker... lol, jk.what a ****ing joke tournaments are.seriously, when you boil them down, they are honestly the biggest joke with poker.6 hours. 400 players, and i bust in 100th after making zero mistakes, IMO. no fuuuucking skill to tournaments.Mitch, it is the same game. The only real difference between cash games and tournaments is a different payout structure. While you can see semi-steady results in cash games, obviously tournaments top heavy payout structure is going to increase the variance (and make it much more difficult to see true win expectations). Second off, poker doesn't owe shit to you. If you think that luck/fate plays too much of a factor in your game it means one of two things, either a) you shouldn't be a pro B) your not playing enough hands (or tourneys in this case). My guess is if you got second place you would still be complaining (thats what poker players do, we are completive by nature), but with 400 players in the tourney, I would probably say you were probably not the best player there, or at least significantly better then everyone in the field. Also, you did not play perfect. If you really think you maxed value in EVERY one of your plays, on EVERY street, of EVERY hand of the entire tournament, you are flat out lying to yourself (and us).On that note, you did not deserve to win. Maybe if you played the same tournaments with the same people 1,000 times (generous number), you might be able to see something that resembles your actual EV. But bitching about one sample, to a bunch of people that already understand the idea of variance doesn't accomplish a whole lot.Nobody made you play in the tourney, nobody said it was the best way to make money in poker. But this isn't the first time I have heard you blatantly criticize a game based on its absence of skill where it is clear that either being ignorant or purposely refusing to see the facts for what they are. HOnestly, not trying to brag, but i dont think i could have played any better tonight.. just bad timing and bad luck.pretty sure even dan harrington himself would opt to shovel 10's in that spot. (obviously this is an example of how variance works)Annette has the same level of EV in each tourney she plays in, and after she plays in a bunch they start to add up. If her ROI is 80%, then when she enters a $100 tourney, and wins, she did not deserve $10,000; she deserved $180. The same is true if she busted on the first hand.

What I am saying is earlier in the tourney, maybe on a hand you bet $300 chips on the river when you could have actually gotten $350 of value form your opponent. But things like that add up over the tourney and over the life of poker. My point is nobody plays optimally, not even Dan Harrington.

whatgreatis 0
This month is lame. So 3 sessions, +281, -290, -5.That last one comes after being up 400 and getting a sexy little cooler against me.So heres what I plan to do: Play more poker. Honesty, the month is half over and 3 session is pretty much pathetic. Good news is I quit my job so I'll be able to play a lot more. **** the egg factory.
