There is no financial insentive for XYZ poker site to rigorously enforce rules. They make money by hands dealt and rake taken.Obv if a site is known to have super-user accounts that's different. Ala Absolute. But if Full Tilt gets someone playing multiple accounts, they get to say 'we have rules, it's not our fault'. And there is no way to permaban anything but a sign in name.As BigStack already said, the gambling world is already seedy, there's a reason for that. Who hasn't seen collusion online? We still get to see Men play tournaments, even though he was caught doing live what who knows how many people do online.Best we can do is do our best to catch the cheats, and scorn them. But it won't stop it, just slow it down.Unless you all vote for me to be King of the USA, in which case we will have much stricter punishments.

i wont nit pick this point, but cheating is cheating..gavin didnt get caught or lie, but he went on a major poker radio show and condoned it...not so bright. alot of young ppl listen to that and think its ok...shrug...i know he is your friend dn and i respect you sticking up for him, but imo he is in the wrong here....
Okay I understand stand your point and am not saying I disagree but a lot of people we're multi accounting/ sharing accounts not all that long ago. Other former WPT champs have said in the past that they did this and didn't see the problem with it. From my understanding a large portion of high level players we're constantly doing this until the terms of service on most sites became more clear and Justin was busted for his infraction and then by most accounts the majority of these players clued in and stopped doing this. The huge difference here is that as soon as the poker community began to frown on these actions these players stopped what they we're doing something that JJ never did.

When did poker become this occupation of honor?poker = cheating...that is the way it has always been. I will grant you that there are individuals with nothing but the highest levels honesty but to think that is the standard...LOLThis is a game where people are openly staked, backed, deals are cut, chops are discussed...and that is common knowledge and accepted practice. If these things are good and fair and open…you don’t think there is much much more shady / blatant cheating going on??? Stop already and pull your head out of the sand. The next thing you are going to try to tell me is that unions are bastions of integrity, politicians don’t sell their votes and the Middle East is really just a repairable misunderstanding!!!Funny stuff

This is extremely valid. Most of us will do almost anything to gain an edge, there are very few that I would actually believe them if they said otherwise, and 100% would say that they are not that way. They- we- are. We lie. That's what we do. To pretend most of us wouldn't take the lie farther is ludicrous.

It's extremely tough to govern poker players because there are always gonna be guys who 'look for that edge' Until something is put into place by the casinos n poker rooms the only thing you can do is try to spot it, and report the guys doing it. & NE one can play on ne one's acct online, JJ will always have access to pstars or ftp...if you think otherwise you're just fooling yourself. Just take these new accts who just show up one day n start cashing in the $100 rebuys all the time, they crack me up...you never know who you are playing against..

There is a much bigger public stake in this issue right now though. With the UIGEA, and the people working to repeal this legislation, it's crucially important to try to maintain a squeaky clean image. Every single 'online scandal' is more ammunition for the people that want to see poker banned permanently.

Just read Daniel's blog and agreed with himI was thinking on this and I was thinking, if this guy is so proud and unremorseful about what he is doing, that he should then wear it like an albatross around his neck. At live events it should be announced to the playing field that a comfirmed cheater is play and who he is and where is banned from.

I was listening to the show and taking notes mostly on the interview and really didn't focus on Gavin's comments as much. I also did the show once and know how he feels about that stuff so it didn't shock me as much. I don't think putting Gavin and the kid in the same guilty boat in this case is fair. Seemed to me that Gavin was trying to be nice to the kid, something I probably wouldn't have done.
Have you ever bought an account?
We addressed the same problem on our radio show. I have made it a point to let NO ONE off the hook on this, and I've been particularly disgusted by the attitudes of the masses, saying 'No big deal'. That's a pile of BS: If I'm playing in a WPT event, make it to the final table, and then call Daniel and say, 'Hey, dude, you're better than me, I'll sell you my seat at the final table', the response of EVERYONE would be outrage. So why does this type of behaviour get a walk in the online world? Likewise, if Daniel was playing in Day 1A of a WSOP event, busted (Sorry, DN, it's my make believe scenario! :club: ), and then bought into Day 1B under a different name, would everyone say 'Oh, hey, that's not a big deal'. Doubtful. Softballing an interview is acceptable in some situations. But NOT when you have a guest whose sole claim to fame is misbehaviour. When we had Rain Khan on our show, we asked him why he acted like a jackass. When we had Brad Booth on the show, we asked him about losing 3 million. If you want credibility as a journalist, you have to be prepared to ask pertinent questions. Or just don't have those people as guests....

wow...like anything else, poker has evolved since the days of the backroom gambler... the game has boomed and attracted white collar types as well as degenerates, what kind of message are we sending with a post like that? poker=cheating?? so you admit to being a cheat? so because the game was shady in the past, it will always be shady? why not fix the things that made people percieve it as shady and make it better..outing known cheaters is the first step...

If you are suggesting that since poker has had a dark past, which includes cheating, we should just accept it as part of the game today or as a poker norm, than it would also be valid to say that these cheats should be outed and killed for their actions... at least that is what used to happen to cheats way back when. As I understand, murdering cheaters used to be the norm as well. Why didn't any of the radio show hosts lynch JJProdigy or shoot him on site? That is really the question we should be asking based on your logic... :club:

I think it's obvious that that paticular episode of the show suffered from all the hosts being 'live' players and not having enough knowledge of the internet community and how strongly stuff like this is taken by online players.Imo, it would have worked a lot better if they had Issac Haxton on who would have grilled the pants of the kid.I don't really blame Bart or Seebok for their questions because it was obvious to me they don't understand the mindset of the online community and they never followed the JJProdigy case as it happened.FWIW aswell, i think it's pretty conclusive that a lot of what Josh said on that interview was patently untrue, as is to be expected.Justin Bonomo wrote an overly emotional post on the matter over at 2+2, and pointed out some of the lies Josh was spouting. For instance, JJ claims that he only ghosted another player once or twice, when Bonomo says he has it on record that he did it on a much more regular basis.

I'm with Daniel on the point that I wouldn't want to play in a live tourney with this kid. Dont see why anyone thinks a guy caught cheating at poker should be allowed to play in live poker tourneys. He cheated many times, just because it was on the internet makes it a lesser offense than if he did it live? I disagree with Daniel thinking the Pokerroad guys shouldve been more confrontational. Its not a courtroom, its a radio show. They couldnt force the guy to answer questions he didnt want to by being more forceful with him. If they come out being confrontational, theres a good chance the kid walks out on the show then no one hears his answers to anything. I think they did a passable job for guys who arent professional journalists in giving this kid enough rope with their questions to hang himself, which in my mind he did. His answers and explanations were absurd and I think he comes off looking worse than he did before the show.

wow...like anything else, poker has evolved since the days of the backroom gambler... agreed, but that doesn't mean it is cleaned up.the game has boomed and attracted white collar types correct i am oneas well as degeneratesi have been accused of this as well...LOLwhat kind of message are we sending with a post like that? poker=cheating?? message it is mearly a factually accurate observationso you admit to being a cheat? no but i have spent many hours in poker rooms both legal and not so much and have seen many things!!!! the fact i have a long history in the game means that i cheat?? so because the game was shady in the past, it will always be shady? again i never said that...they would be your words. i said that it is the past and i will tell you still a large part of it present. time will tell if it is the future.why not fix the things that made people percieve it as shady and make it better..outing known cheaters is the first step...it is not percieved it is fact...someday, most likly many years from your position may be correct.
oh BTW don't put words in other peoples mouth on a written forum....you just end up looking young and silly. Someday you will grow up and the world for what it really is.

You know, I can't help but respect JJ for being that much of an ass. Don't get me wrong, I think he should be banned from online poker and live events, but at least he's more honest than people who only say they're sorry after they're caught. Most people aren't sorry about what they did, they're just sorry they got caught doing it. If you're going to hand out a get out of jail free card to every one who apologizes, then we may as well all be cheaters until we get caught and have to beg for forgiveness. Yeah, JJ is despicable, but in a Homeric sort of way, he's more honest than most people who have been caught.

All cheaters suck.Cheaters that apologize, still suck but suck a little less, and at least have a chance to re enter the world of not sucking. To atone is Nobel. To forgive is Divine...or something like that.

The problem I have with DN's blog is that he makes it sound like all the kid had to do was apologize and then he would be accepted back into the community with open arms, and that's the kind of naive approach to punishment that encourages people to either cheat in the first place or "apologize" and then keep cheating. If you're old enough to gamble, then you're old enough to know the difference between right and wrong. If you cheat, then you should be banned from everything regardless of whether or not you apologized.Turning over a new leaf is BS, a Zebra doesn't change it's stripes. In a community striving for credibility, we shouldn't be handing out second chances.

ok you win the "who's the biggest azzhole "award for this thread...why? i wasnt putting words in your mouth, you clearly defined your position with the brilliant poker=cheating line...do you really believe that "cheating" in whatever fashion is not still a very large part of the game? Maybe i should have said as long as you play poker for cash there will be a percentage of people willing to cheat for an edge...i guess it would be like drunk driving = death...not a hard fast rule, just a statement that certainly has merit.as far as being young and silly, i wish i were young, but ill cop to the silly....LOL i'll drink to that!!

I agree with this, unless they tied him to a chair and went Jack Bauer on his ass, i don't think this kid was giving away anything that he didn't want to.And to an extent, what does it matter? I know i don't know the kid, but he's speaks and acts like a complete *******, i think everyone's in agreement of that, and we all know he cheated a lot, what more do we want to know? The thing that gets the poker community is that the guy is a complete remorseless jerk, and getting Bart Hanson to question him more harshly is not going to change that.
