Making Light Calldowns

Recommended Posts

I have recently recognized a leak in my game and am now trying to plug it. That leak is me making some poor river decisions and deciding to call light when, if I had a logical thought process to guide me through that decision, I could avoid making that mistake. My main game is heads-up, however, this thought process will be quite useful at 6-max as well. I'm trying to formulate some questions to ask myself when I am unsure of whether I should call or fold on the river. The questions I have come up with so far are the following:Note that not all of these questions are to be used. I'm coming up with as many questions as I can and then filtering through them to end up with the best thought process. Feel free to change the wording of some of the questions if it will make them easier to apply.1) Does my opponent view me as someone who is curious and likes to call people down light?2) Have I played this hand in a way to induce a bluff?3) Is my opponent capable of making thin value bets? Is his range polarized to bluffs or strong hands?4) In my opponents view, does this seem like a good opportunity to bluff given my range in his eyes?5) Is my opponent aggressive or passive? Does he have the heart to bluff this river?I'll continue adding on questions as I think of more. Please feel free to add your own thoughts on this subject as well as more questions.Gabe

I play limit holdem where I just call everything. Only a slight SW.Those are some good questions to be asking however. In my limit games I try and show players that I'm willing to call light as that can really frustrate the average aggresive short handed limit player.

I play from 10/20 to 50/100 limit. Most of my play is at 25/50 and 50/100 at On Game with the Euro-Donks where I'm at 3.80 BB/100 or at Poker Stars where I mostly play 10/20 and 15/30 and I'm at 3.66 BB/100.

It's not a secret in the forum that my Stars name is Big_M in honor of my 3-time champion Big M's of the Alternative Hockey League.I'm pretty boring to rail.
