2008 Presidential Race

Recommended Posts

So the race is heating up. Weather your a Democrat, Republican or a Independent, who do you like?I suppose I will be voting for whoever win the Democratic nomination.I like Obama and Clinton but I still don't see much differences between them other than the fact that Clinton has more experience. As for Republicans, I think Ron Paul's stance on the war is spot on, but that's about it. I don't like most of the other stuff he is for, actually, he's not really "for" anything. Wonder who D.N. is leaning towards.

I think Mccain wins if its him vs Clinton or Obama. Romney is almost too clean cut. Seems like the kind of guy that sucks off homeless men at reststops. Mccain has the kind of policies that can draw a good chunk of the middle 40% and of all the candidates would probally make the best wartime president. Clinton is a polarizing figure where the people who dislike her really cant stand her. I dont know what the f happened to Giuliani

It's pointless to discuss politics in a place like this. No one is changing their mind about anything based on what people post here, and you shouldn't expect anyone to have an ordinary discussion. 99% of things posted in this thread will end in partisan flaming methinks.I've always heard that you shouldn't discuss politics or religion with your friends. Well, I guess I haven't always heard that, but maybe a few times, 5 or 6 at the most, and even then probably from the same person, most likely my father or grandpa or some sort of other figure I looked up to growing up.Yeah, it's a slow day.

I think people know Guilani for just one thing. 9/11. He's the mayor, not the president. Outside of that, no one really thinks of him. He's putting everything he has left into Florida. Which I think Is a big mistake. He's almost completely ignored New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. It's too late. He's not going to win Florida. McCain or Romney will. After Florida, I'm sure Guiliani and Thompson will be dropping out of the race.

I have asked for a politics forum, and that was pretty much the response I got, I believe from Bob. But I still think we need one, if we can have a religion forum, which is much more volitaile a subject IMO, then we should be able to have a poitics one, this way OT general doesnt get clutterd with these threads.

Well Mr. 'I want a political forum',Why don't you just shut up before you try to ram your political views down everyone's throats? You want to sit there in judgement of others and tell them why thier political views are wrong you can go to another forum. You and your kind have no tolerance for other's views. You sterotype them, call them names and then tell them why they are wrong just like the rest of your pathetic closeminded neowacktards. I hope you die a painful slow death for your intolerance.

I don't think he can vote. I would think he would vote for Ron Paul if he could vote. Based on one of his blogs DN is a fiscal conservative. Plus Ron Paul wants to legalize online poker.

Really? In my opinion, McCain has very little chance to win the election. I think he would get blown out in the General Election. I think the biggest thing that will hold him back is his age. On top of that, however, he doesn't really click with any one group, the way say that George W. did with evangelicals, Obama does with young people, etc. His mixed policies on the war and immigration, and his past opinions on religion will hold him back from getting a strong and enthusiastic following from a lot of conservatives. His current rebound is merely a testament to the overall suckiness of the other candidates and their lack of appeal. I also think that Romney wouldn't stand much of a chance in the general election. He's just so smug and tries to conform too hard to what people want to hear him say. He's too much of a politician, and I think (or at least I hope) that people are starting to grow sick of wishy washy politicians. Plus he's a Mormon which I think will also hurt him a lot (more than has been shown so far). In order to win, one needs an enthusiastic following. Though people hated Bush in '04, the overall crumminess of Kerry didn't generate the excitement toward the candidate himself that is necessary to take down an election. I don't think either McCain nor Romney will be able to generate that level of excitement either. If one of them happens to earn the nomination, it is because they will have beaten out fellow conservatives. However, this does not mean that conservatives around the country will have the enthusiasm about their party's candidates relative to the enthusiasm of the potential Democratic nominee. It only means that he was less lousy than the other Republican candidates and, of those conservatives who showed up, he was the favorite.

I will puke my guts out if the presidential race ends up being Clinton vs. McCain/Giuliani/Romney/Huckabee. If Clinton won, do we see Edwards as being the easy pick for VP again? If Obama runs away with it, who is his VP? Being the Ron Paul hopeful that I am, I still reserve the right to say that it's up for anybody right now. Conservatives don't like McCain and the primaries are still won by the far right and far left. I am slightly hoping inside that McCain is just leveling the playing field.... maybe a Rudy win or two will do the same thing. Of course, in the process, RP has to come away with more then a 2nd place at Nevada.I am shocked that McCain is so strong right now. I almost see it as a decent sign for the country (not the McCain is a good candidate or anything). My big worry was that neo-conservative talk radio would be a big influence on the elections, but there's no way that McCain is their candidate.sooooooooooo yeah, go Obama... go Ron Paul.... Thompson is out... Giuliani is probably out very soon.... Screw Clinton, Giuliani, Romney, and Huckabee. Thank you and have a nice day.

What an odd statement; Ron Paul is the only one with any actual beliefs. Everyone else's politics can be boiled down to "I want to drive for a while, and I'll say whatever it takes to get there." RP has clearly stated beliefs that have not varied for a couple of decades of public life, and he not only talks the talk, he walks the walk. He is "for" freedom, liberty, the constitution, and the right to be left alone if you are not bothering anyone. Can any other candidate say they are for even ONE of those things? He is the only candidate who whole-heartedly supports your right to play online poker while you smoke dope and whack off to midget porn. OK, those aren't specifically his issues, but they are rights he would support. Again, can any other candidate say the same?

McCain is going to attract a lot of independents in the General Election, especially if HilShrill is the candidate. His record on the war might hurt him, but with the recent indications that Iraq is stabilizing, it might help him as well. He's shown a clear record of bipartisanship with his work on campaign finance and other issues. You guys are right that the neo conservatives are not in love with him with his stance on immigration and Rush Limbaugh even went so far to say that McCain was not an acceptable candidate. (which IMO is a good thing) Giuliani might have had one of the worst primary strategies in recent history and there are indications that he might even lose Florida, a state that he has camped out in for the past two years. Really good idea to just ignore all the early states and cede the media attention and momentum to the other 'Pubs. I don't really like Romney, but with his political machine, he has a shot at the nomination and at HilShrill in the General Election if she gets nominated. Huckabee's only shot at the nomination is if the Rapture comes.

Up next on The Situation Room...Should citizens that don't know the difference between homophones be allowed to vote in elections? Our pundits say 'no'.

I felt a long time ago it would prolly be Hillary against Mc Cain, like it or not.If that is the case I say McCain sneaks in and takes it. He is the only one who can take out Billary and I think she is just too much for most of the US, but it would be a very chad hanginly close bitter election.Obama I think is isolating himself a bit too much and does not have the firepower to overthrow the Clinton Jauggenaut. He will not be the nom.My guess is McCain sneaks in, but watch out for Romney. I bet McCain?btw: Daniel told me he is for Obama....
