Trip Report #3

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'll try not to repeat too much from the others, and try to remember most of my trip. Sorry for the long post but I was there for 11 days!I flew down on the 9th with my 3 buddies as a "last trip" before my best friend gets hitched. The trip got off to a bad start right away as we had a 4 hour delay AFTER getting on the plane. Apparently we were waiting for our pilot as he was still up in the air and couldn't land for some reason, (ice?) and finally after a couple hours we got our pilot. Then about half an hour later they tell us we can't go because our co-pilot had been working 13 hours and wasn't legally allowed to complete a 4 hour flight. They were going to actually cancel our flight, but they ended up switching him for another guy who only had a 2 hour flight. Finally we get in the air, and all of a sudden my stomach is hurting bad. I end up throwing up like 5 times, and in pain for the whole flight. Luckily the bug was gone by the next day, and I could still have some fun with my friends. We didn't play a lot of poker over the next few days, 2 of the guys I went with had never been, and 1 is an architect major, so we just toured around different casinos checking them out. He was pretty impressed. We went to Mandalay Bay to eat at the Burger Bar (pretty good) and on the way back there was a big crowd in front of a store. Chris Angel was inside filming, so we waited for a few minutes, then left due to boredom and not wanting to wait any longer. Also we went to Margaritaville later that night, it's a sweet place, and if you're into girl drinks like me, then get the Bama Breeze! After my friends left, I went down to the Palms to meet up with Scott and Bill (Nutz and Ozium) who I was to stay with for a few days. I let them fight over who was buying me dinner that night, and then we met up with Pat (truss) and his buddies. We went down to Bellagio to rail some of the 5 Diamond. (actually those might have been on different days I dont' really remember). I also finally started playing some real poker, but only had 1300 left of the 3k I brought. I played at Venetian with Mikeysong and Zach6668 (Mike and Zach are their names obv) and I made 1500, so I treated dinner at the Grand Luxe that night. The Saturday was nuts. We played 2/4 horse at Planet Hollywood and I guzzled down some rye and cokes, then we went bowling and I was double fisting the Long Island Iced Teas. Then I think more horse, then somehow we ended up at Seth's (cardcore) room at IP, and joked around for a while. Around 5 I decided to walk back to Bill's to go to bed. I was walking pretty fast and the strip had nobody on it but these 4 guys infront of me walking 2 by 2. I didn't think much of it, and passed them since I was walking faster. Then this one sketchy dude comes up beside me and starts asking me all these questions (where you from? what are you doing? why your hands in your pockets?) I answered him politely (ontario, going to my room, because it's cold), then I don't really know why, maybe he saw someone coming, or to talk to his boys again, but he backed off, and I saw a getaway chance, so I jetted into the Flamingo, and played blackjack for an hour before making the 10 second walk outside to Bill's. I'm not sure if he was intending to rob me, but it was definately very sketchy, and I had 1700 bucks in my wallet at this point.Over the week there was lots of fun playing Chinese poker, and learning how to play Big 2. I was definately the luckbox of the week and won almost every session of those. My last session at Venetian had some interesting hands. Hand 1 was with a guy I had played in a previous session that week (we had been friendly since we both had the same red Full Tilt poker hat on. It was the 2nd or 3rd hand after I joined and I had KK in medium postion. There were a couple limpers and I went to raise but he raised out of turn. So I limped, he raised to 15, 1 guy called, then I reraise to 60. (His buddy who I'll get to in a minute, was like "ooohh I know what that means"), then the guy looks at me and says "do you have tens?" then he tanks for a few seconds and goes all in. Me not being able to fold KK in a 1/2 NL game and him saying that confused the hell out of me, so I think maybe he has Qs or Js so I call, and his aces hold. He gets really pissed off at his friend and says he is going to come over to the other side of the table and beat the hell out of him if he talks when he's in a hand again. He then apologizes to me and says his friend's an idiot, and talks about how happy he is because it was the last of his Vegas money that he had on the table. I wasn't too upset and kept being friendly with him, but I was a bit annoyed that he wouldn't shut up about apologizing..get over it dude. A few hands after that he apologizes to his friend and they apologize to each otehr for like 5 minutes, and I ask them if they are dating. He laughs and says that's funny but he's married. And I didn't laugh because I wasn't joking, I really thought they were dating (the other dude that talked all the time was very metro and had a lisp).A few orbits later, guy on my left (same guy) straddles for 4 bucks, and one guy calls, I make it 20 from the BB with KsKx, they both call. Flop is QJ6 all spades, I lead out for $45, they both call. Turn is a brick 7c or something. I check intending to c/shove. Guy on my left bets 80, other guy folds. Before I can do anything, he shows me the As, and tells me he has me beat. I get confused so I tank a while, and start talking to him. I really was about to fold because he seemed so sincere and we had been friendly and talking a lot so far, but I'm not ready to go away just yet. I figure if he had the flush, he wouldn't have shown because he wanted me to call. I really only could put him on AsAx or AsQx, and since he hadn't reraised me preflop, the latter was more obvious. Finally after tanking so long, he says "tell you what. if you fold the best hand I'll give you 50 bucks." He meant it too.. then he said something like "maybe we have the same hand". At that point I say "Ok, you convinced me", and I shove my whole stack in. He tanks and calls with AsQx and the river bricks giving me a nice 700 pot. A few hands after that, I limp A6cc UTG, and his metro buddy makes it 18 to go from the button. I am the only caller (effective stacks are over 600). Flop is QXX with 2 clubs, I check, he bets 25, I raise to 75, he raises to 125 (Lol cashgameaments) and I reraise to 325 (with 300 back) he tanks and folds AQ face up and I show the semi bluff. Not long after that he busted his own buddy for the guy's last money in Vegas hahahaha. My last day in Vegas was a blast. I did 3 thing that I had never done before, and finished with some 10 pin bowling and some cards with Zach, Ted and Jamie. To get the day started, Mitch and I hit the gun range (it had an awesome name, I forget what it was called though). We walked in and I felt so out of place, it was kinda sketchy. We were talking to the guy about what we were going to shoot, and Mitch holds up a gun to look at it, and the guy says " could you please not point that thing at me, I don't want to have to kill someone today". We were pretty sure he would have no troubles shooting us, so Mitch put the gun down in a hurry. We got on the range and we shot an M-16 machine gun, and a Baretta (sp?) handgun. It was my first time shooting anything but a pelot gun, and it was pretty fun. Definately a weird feeling of power holding them. The 2nd first for me was doing that flavoured oxygen bar thing at the Fashion Show Mall. The girl was a pretty cute Russian girl, and tried to sell us everything she had, it was pretty funny. I ended up buying a gross tasting power shot, but it may have helped. The oxygen thing felt very weird at first, and by the end was just annoying. It didn't really do much in my opinion. The 3rd first for me was riding in a limo. We went to catch a taxi from Bellagio to Goald Coast to go bowling, and we got offered a limo ride for $25. Wasn't really anything special, just felt like a normal ride to me. I flew home yesterday and this time I had a cold on the way home (I had it my last day in Vegas), and I still have a cold. I guess I can't complain because I get sick like once a year at most. I had a great time seeing all the old FCPers I've met and consider friends (Zach (6668), Mikey, Scott, Bill, Jamie, Matt (xzanos), Teddy, Mitch, Jon and the obv people I forget because I suck at remembering), and meeting new FCPer's (Seth, Tanner, Zach (quick (cwik)), Pat, Matt (acid knight) and also I probably forgot more people here I'm so sorry!)

Good report, but you didn't mention how you cooked off more than half your bankroll without playing any poker...was it a bad run at the table games or just an 8-ball and a hooker?

Pit games, food, and I played a little poker, not much though. A 180 tourney at Venetian where I lasted like 30 mins, and an hour or 2 of livegame play with my friends.

I liked that you quoted the whole post lol. Here in Ontario, 5 pin is pretty popular, and is the only bowling in my small city. Basically, it was created because Canadians are wusses, and the 10 pin balls were too heavy.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5_pin_bowlingAlso my almost got robbed story sucks now. I was just at my family Christmas party, and I found out my cousin got robbed at gunpoint a few weeks ago, pretty crazy stuff.

this was really funny. I was sitting at the table too, and the two guys were drunk off there ass fighting with each other and tilted as hell. UnfortunatelyI couldn't find a hand to play a big pot against either off them, while Ray was taking all their chips. It was really great to meet you Ray. Good times all around.

I went through so much of my profit at the table games the last time I was in Vegas, it's painful to even think about how many real life paychecks I dusted off just because I was bored and needed something to do. Know the feeling well, trust me. I netted something like $3500 in poker profit over the week, and gave all but a grand back just "being in Vegas" for a week and a half, dinners, cab rides, show tickets, souveniers, and those hateful, spiteful table games. Sit with $200, get up 20 minutes later wondering what happened, and repeat. By far my worst leak, I really can't win when it comes to blackjack, craps, PaiGow, even Bonus Texas Hold Em just pwns my soul. That's the main reason why I haven't set foot in a casino since September, I know I can't win in the pit but I can't stay out after a poker score. I end up giving the profits back and basically feel like I wasted the day and gas money.
having time to kill in vegas = death. funny you mention bonus holdem game. last time I was in vegas I dumped 800 in profits at blackjack and 3 card poker.....then i got aces three times in nine hands at bonus holdem. For those who dont know the bonus is 30-1 and I hit for 5 then 10 then 15. Sadly, that is like my best table game story ever.oh, and as an east coaster who always takes the red eye back from vegas let me share a tip.....ask to keep your room an extra day. When your flight is not until 1155pm, it is great to have a room to go crash in.....inevitably it is the last day of the vegas trip and it is 400pm and I dont know what to do with myself.....now I call down the night before and extend my stay....usually the extra day is pretty cheap too....
