no, tried three different ports, same thing. and the thing is, its actually charging, so the port is working. its "connecting" in that way, just not to my system. maybe I'll try reinstalling itunes when I get home.

IM question:Is there any reason why AIM would jut crash on me? Like I log on, but it comes up and either automatically logs me out or gives me a message "AIM has encountered a problem and needs to close." And neither pidgin nor trillian would work for me either. Is it a problem with AIM, with my computer, and what should I do?

linux livecd multimonitor support is somewhat limited still, isn't it (in ubuntu, anyways)? i know that i've always had problems, although i haven't tried in a while.

You don't really need multi monitor mode do you though? just to see if the monitor works with the video card.

Sigh. I forgot how irritating linux is. Once it's running it's great, but until then it's just so much hassle. Also, it's been over 12 months since I last used ubuntu so I am pretty clueless.Trying to figure out how to install the second monitor. It's asking for drivers. Of which there aren't any.

I've never used Ubuntu, but I thought it came with ATI and NVIDIA drivers by default, which is why a lot of free software guys don't like it. I know if you installed it, it should Just Work TM., but I don't know how to get it to work while in live CD mode. You could try the Ubuntu forum.

It's coming with Vista Home, only because that is the cheapest option available. I have my own copies of Vista Ultimate and Office that I'll install once I get it.

After spending nearly $2k on a laptop a couple years ago and having the thing completely die after less than 6 months of light use (I sent it back under their standard shitty warranty twice, along with taking it to multiple laptop repair people, none of whom could get it fixed), I am willing to pay an extra couple hundo for the peace of mind knowing that whatever happens, it will be alright. I am not worried about me be careless and dropping it. I am worried about parts going bad, other people being idiots and tripping over the power cord causing it to plummet to the ground, etc.

laptops are one of the few things where warranties can be worth it, esp something like Dell's complete care - it breaks, any reason, you get a new laptop.

resolution: reset ipod. plugged it in, held the select and the menu button for 6 seconds, black apple logo comes up, it connects again. not sure why it did it, but it worked. weird though, it still wouldn't manually sync, I had to unclick manually manage music and let it do it automatically. oh well though, its working again and thats all that matters.

my buddy just got a new nano (yeah I know its still an apple, shut up) and it seems really, really cool. only like $180 too for the 8 gig. also, I believe there is somebody on this forum that is quite fond of the "touch."

I have an HP laptop DV9000. It works great. Even vista has no problems. BUT, whenever I cold reboot it takes literally 7-8 minutes to complete the process. Once in windows it runs like lightning, so there is obviously something wrong and/or installed incorrectly to make startup such a problem. Ideas?

in xp, this is what i'd do. dunno if any of it applies to vista.get bootvis and look for what takes so longgo into msconfig, disable everything that starts at boottime, and add them back one (or a few) at a time to find out what is taking so longcheck the system log for a service that is showing errors/unable to start and disable it/resolve itcheck the BIOS for bootspeedinguping options, make sure the HD is the first in the boot order, and disable all hardware you dont use (serial ports, modem, etc)post boob pix

16GBs. it'll be pretty irrelevant, though, once something is coded to stream directly from a PC to the ipod/iphone. I could have done just fine with an 8GB but I had $400 in gift certificates to spend.if you're thinking about getting an iphone, you might wanna wait a few months on the purchase. a better version is coming out soon that will use a newer cell phone standard that can now fit into the small form factor.

but is is still only available on at&t I believe it is? if so its basically worthless to me. no coverage around here (but yes, we surprisingly DO have other cell phone company coverage. just no indoor plumbing). besides, I think putting my phone in my mp3 player may be combining too much. eh, maybe not, I don't know, but until they open up the company availability its useless to me, and by then something else super cool will be out.

this has been possible with some third party modding for like eight months now. give it time; there's supposedly a law in the works that prohibits that kind of dumb restriction.amen on the anti-AT&T feelings.

Am I being hacked? I keep seeing a boston street address in my google search history. I have cleared the history 3 times in a week and this boston address(for a hotel) keeps showing back up in my google search history and I have know idea why. Everything else in the history is correct.TY
