As much as it pains me to say being a Sydneysider, if you want poker, your best of going to Melbourne, there isn't anywhere else really.
What mln said .. I'm from Sydney too.I play online (and occasionally i have home games), if I go to melbourne for work .. I always get some time in at Crown .. the rake is massive, the buy-in is short, but the play is donkalicous .. my mate pulled 4BI from there 2 nights ago when he was down there for work ... Oh and unfortunately the NSW state government just signed an exclusivity agreement with Star City (the one casino allowed in NSW .. which is in Sydney) .. I think the exclusivity is for another 10 years or something rediculous... The wait for a table is generally > 3 hrs, and there are only about 12 tables .. They don't give a shit about it, they want you on the table games... speaking of which I'm going to Star tomorrow night ... I might just play black crack :club:

Well I live in Melbourne and I go to university in Melbourne and would have to say Crown isnt all that bad for poker. Theres around 40 tables and yeah, lots of really bad players!!Come to Melbourne mate, its awesome here!!

Yea as its been said already, if you want to choose based on poker Melbourne is the logical choice with the Crown being by far the best offering of poker. Otherwise, be prepared to play pub poker or online.

I live in Christchurch, New Zealand and the poker scene is close to non-existent.The only casino in town at the most has 3 tables running, usually a 1/2 NL Holdem, a Holdem/Omaha rotation mostly 1/2, and a 4/8 Omaha, games change but 3 is the maximum tables you will ever see and those are the maximum limits.Auckland it might be slightly better, not too sure but I wouldnt expect much more. Again one casino and only a handful of tables.Only two cities whose casinos spread poker I think and no cardrooms here or nothin.Very happy with the general concensus above me in this thread tho about Melbourne cos im moving there in two weeks! YAY FOR ME!

If you dont know how to play limit holdem then you HAVE to move to NSW or VIC. I dont think I have found a NL casino cash game outside of those states. While there is NL sit and go's and tournaments they are different (obviously)

Theres plenty of pub games in Sydney, but I wouldn't want to play them. Don't play at Star City (Sydney's only casino), only a handful of tables and ridiculous rake. I think they offer 1/2NL with 10% rake + $5 per hour time charge, something like that.Theres a place called the pokerdome where you can play turbo self dealt sit and go's, not sure if it's worth it though I've never been.Best place for poker in Sydney is online.More importantly don't let the poker scene influence what university you are going to go lol, go to the university which is best for your course. What will you be studying?
