Not to add too much light to this thread but all the playing stu ungar references are kind of funny. Chip seemed like a real down to earth guy and a good human being so if there is a heaven I see him going there, stu ungar was drug addict degenerate; they are probably not going to run into each other if you know what I'm saying.
They were good friends, and if you'd look around you'd find the article where Chip talks about how Stuey taught him "almost" everything about gin. Which is what they'd be playing in heaven, by the way. And Stuey would be winning.Maybe that was in "One of a Kind" by Nolan Dalla, sorry.=e

ftp is pausing for 1 minuteSystem: Please join us for one minute of silence in honor of David "Chip" Reese.
My only connection to the guy (other than hearing the same tales and lore about him that everyone else has) was watching him play the sky-high LOLOmaha and HORSE games on FTP.I know this is kinda strange, but one of the first things I thought about was his FTP account.I'm sure he had quite a chunk on there.I wonder what happens when an account with a lot of money suddenly goes "inactive"?What kind of recourse would a US players estate have to claim the mobnies? No intention of hijacking the thread- just a thought. I'm sure his estate planners are going to have to ferret out his boxes at the Casinos... Might want to consider this too.

Perhaps I was addicted to tha dark side Some where inside my childhood witnessed my heart die And even though we both came from the same places The money and the fame made us all change places How could it be through the misery That can't get past the hard times Made a true friend afraid to ask, for currency But you could run to me when you need me, I'll never leave I just needed someone to believe in, as you can see It's a small thang through and true What could I do? Real homies help ya get through, And coming new, he'd do tha same thang if he could 'cause in the hood true homies make you feel good And happy times we be acting up call tha cops Bringing the cease to tha peace that was on my block It never stop, when my mama ask me will I change I tell her yeah, but it's clear I'll always be tha same Until the end of time So take, these broken wings Use your hands to come and heal me once again (Until the end of time) So I can fly away, until the end of time Until the end of time Until the end of time [Please Lord forgive me for my life of sin My hard stare seem to scare all my sister's kids So you know I don't hang around tha house much Diss all night money making got me outta touch, shit Ain't flashed a smile in a long while An unexpected birth worst of the ghetto childs My attitude got me walking solo Ride out alone in my low-low Watching the whole world move in slow-mo For quiet times disappear to the ocean Smoking Ports think my thoughts Then it's back to coasting Who can I trust in this cold world My phony homey had a baby by my own girl But I ain't trippin I'm a player I ain't sweating him I sex his sister, had her mo' good like a Mexican His next of kin No remorse it was meant to happen Besides rapping the only thing I did good was scrapping Until the end of time So take, these broken wings Use your hands to come and heal me once again (Until the end of time) So I can fly away, until the end of time Until the end of time Until the end of time Now who's to say if I was right or wrong? To live my life as an outlaw all along Remain strong in this planet full of playa haters They conversate but Death Row full of demonstrators And in tha end drinking henessy made all my enemies envy me So cold when I flow eliminating easily Falls to they knees, they plead for they right to breath While beggin me to keep the peace (haha) Well I can see close into achieve In times of danger don't freeze time to be a g Follow my lead I supply everything you need An ounce of game and the trainin to make a g Remember me, as an outcast outlaw Another album out that's what I'm about, more Gettin raw till the day I see my casket Buried as a g while tha whole world remembers me Until the end of time

If there's a big game in heaven, this is their very worst day.
Post of the thread. We'll all miss you, Chip, even though we didn't ever get to meet you. The world was better for having you in it, and I guess that's probably the best thing that can be said about a person.

I started playing just before the boom. The first game I learned to play was stud, thanks to a friend introduced me to the. It was the first game I played in the casino, and the game where I'm at my best.I don't remember specifically when I learned of Chip, but a couple years ago I got myself a new hardcover edition of Super System, and the stud chapter was the first I read. I have hoped I would some day get the chance to simply meet him and get his autograph in the book. I guess my chance has passed, so I am resigned to become the best I can in the mold of Chip Reese. I hold him in the highest regard of any player I know of.RIP.

Rest In Peace Chip. I give my depest sympothies to his family and friends.

Who do you think you are to say something like that? You have some inside information about what happens next that the rest of us don't. Your assumption that because Stu Unger used drugs makes him any less likely to go to heaven makes me sick. Whatever is next is not for you or me to decide. The man, his family ,and his friends deserve to be shown more respect than that.

I feel the same way. I started playing postboom, the first game I played in a casino was NL, but Stud is also where I'm at my best.I never gave a thought of getting the original Super System autographed, but I would've loved to play at least one hand of Stud with Chip. His section is what gave me the spark to excel in Stud.Hmm, it's kinda weird. For a family member, I don't shed a tear. For a guy I never met, I feel the tears welling up a little.

Wow,Chip was awsome. One of the best shows of the Circuit (back in the day when they were on Card Player) was with Chip Reese right after he won the 50K event last year. His stories were so fascinating, they were cool. Here they are if anybody wants to listen to them.Part 1 - http://media.cardplayer.com/audio/t/the_circuit_123.mp3Part 2 - http://media.cardplayer.com/audio/t/the_circuit_124.mp3RIP Chip
Man, I only found out an hour or two ago when I went to check out PokerRoad and saw Barry's blog. Definitely a surprise. I relistened to those episodes again, sucks that Chip and Hellmuth won't get a chance to go at each other. Sounded like it would've been a fun, friendly rivalry. Best part of those episodes though, was one of the phone calls asking Chip about big scores he'd made. And Chip didn't want to mention it on air, but he told the caller to introduce himself at Bellagio or Venetian and ask him in person. Which is cool enough. But I remember in one of the episodes after that, not sure how far after, Huff mentioned that the caller did approach Chip, and Chip spent a while talking about exactly what the caller was curious about. Very coolRest in peace, Chip

get real people. poker player not mother theresa. spent his life taking other people's money through skill and deception.
Wondered how long it would take...I agree, pretty classy by FTP, I only wish they would take down the RIP Chip Reese from the lobby. Its actually very depressing to me.I keep waiting to wake up.Barry's blog really showed a lot about him that I didn't know, I only wish I knew all this BEFORE it happened...

Very, very unfortunate.Still, the ending is the same for all of us- be it 57 years or 77 years, in the grand scheme, it doesn't make much of a difference. He lived his years at the absolute apex of his chosen field- pretty safe to say, his time on this earth, while not as long as we would've liked to see it, was probably better than most peoples.Still, it's a loss. Very, very fitting he won the first 50K event before his passing.RIP.
I thought this was really well put.Obviously thoughts go out to his family who will be suffering a terrible loss and heartbreak right now. A man that was universally respected in his chosen field.

I agree with you 100%.
