I think we could find some similarities to players staking each other in what is still an individual competition with what happens in NASCAR.Each driver is trying to win, of course. But they also belong to various "teams". In other words, multiple cars/drivers working for the same owner. And there are ways to help drivers on your "team" during the course of the race at the expense of other drivers. This analogy isn't perfect, in that the prize money is provided by corporate sponsors, not through individual entry fees paid by the drivers. And driver A doesn't get a cut of driver B's purse if B wins, even if they're on the same team (AFAIK).But at least everyone does know who's on what team. Since trying to enforce any kind of ban on this is problematic at best (as acknowledged by others on this thread), that may be the way to go in poker. Allow staking between players as long as there's full disclosure. Heck, they could even wear matching jackets to make it easier.
