Question About 1/2 Nl Games

Recommended Posts

question for all you guys...I just recently started playing NL cash games and was playing a NL 1/2 online game last night and made nice money(don't flame me for a brag post). but my question is what would you say is the average sized pot for a 1/2 NL game.....this game was constantly hovering over the $55-$65 mark. I felt like everybody was just being maniacs and didn't know if this was out of the ordinary or quite normal.....Thanks for the replies

I sure hope you are not complaining about the size of the pots. The bigger the size of the pots, and the more players who see the flop, the more likely you will get paid off when you hit a hand.

I didn't see a complaint, just a question asking if that is the norm for those stakes.

- i really think the game at a live 1-2 nl table is about even with the .10-.25nl cash games on stars....thoughts??
probably closer to .05 .10 imo, the play at most 1/2 live tables is atrocious

Yeah its about the same as .05/.10...sometimes worse...very rarely better.
Really? I hear this all the time on here and half think it's the "internet snobs" (no offense of course) just brag posting about how much better online players are than live players. I've played both and maybe it's different from casino to casino, but I haven't seen this to be true. Of course most of my live 1/2 play has been in Northern Cali where there are few options for NL games so maybe the lack of game choices raises the level of play?Don't get me wrong, the play isn't great but I think you are giving way too much credit to the online micro limit players.

thanks for the input guys...i guess i'll be able to determine the "live vs online" quality of play next week when i head to vegas...since i just started playing NL holdem cash games it only makes sense that i play my first live NL game next week as well. i've only been to vegas once before and played at bellagio and the venitian which were both extremely nice imo. probably gonna check out caesar's palace and mgm grand this time as well. i got nothing to do all day except play poker since im going just b/c my buddy is gonna be there for work and staying at TI will be free :club:

you know what else i was hoping for your input on with something i have a concern with playing NL live for the first time next week is my betting amounts compared to the size of the pot....this is such a newbie question but it kinda pains me that i'm gonna have to constantly be counting how much is in the pot....this is so easy online since they tell you obviously....anybody got any tips for counting how much is in the pot a little easier?? thanks

You'll just get a feel for it after a little while. It's kinda different for each player as you might notice. Some people like to make huge bets all the time, others underbet, I personally like to keep it in between.Say you make it 10 to go preflop, and get 3 other callers, you know there's about 40 in there. For me personally though, I usually bet between 15 and 25 on the flop depending what outcome I want and how tight the table plays postflop. You just need to feel it out a bit. Also keep in mind. The more you do something, the more people get accustomed to it. So say you come out betting 30 on every flop, at first it might get a lot of folds, but eventually people will know they have to call that if they want to play w/ you.

When betting closes pre-flop, multiply the number of players to the flop X the amount you each paid. Good delears will make this easier for you by announcing "4 players to the flop". Remember to add in any dead money, if the blinds or any limpers didn't call a raise. For example, UTG limps, MP raises to $12, CO calls, SB calls, BB folds, UTG folds."Three players to flop."3 x 12 = 24, plus the 2 from the limper and the 2 from the BB = 28.Once you have that part, the rest should be easy to figure out as it unfolds. While we are on the topic of betting amounts, has anyone else noticed that in live 1/2 games, way more people bet tiny amounts compared to the pot? Keep in mind that if you find yourself at a table where this is going on a lot, your drawing hands go up in value. You might also get the image of a "maniac", since you will be betting 40 or 50 into the 55 pots that the other people are betting 20 into.

OMG you just said 3 x 12 = 24. R-tard.
