flamboroughkid 0
I have been playing partypoker now for a good 2 weeks and seem to always get sucked out on the limit games.I have just recently started the NL games and have had huge success. I have started to protect my hand with big bets and picking up pot after pot. If anyone is having troubles on Limit games give NL a try for a week and see how your bankroll rises. Jubba 0
careful though, the variance is higher in NL. The swings can be wild.
BigDMcGee 3,354
cry of the limit hater.. see, you're thinking about playing wrong.. what you must do is figure out ways of protecting your hand that don't involve just betting it the whole way...You must raise aggressively, check raise aggressively, sometimes wait untill the turn to raise ( because the pot is so big from pre flop action) to drive people out..I made a common mistake early in my limit game in playing only good cards, and only betting when I hit them,t hen getting pissed when I got sucked out on, and going on tilt, and yadda yadda yadda...Then I learned how to protect my hand, which you can do in limit, reguardless of what people say...And if people want to call turn raises with gut shots and bottom pairs, god bless them, they are making you money.. PhishForChips 0
If you have good self control and a lot of heart then you will make a ton of money in no limit in situations you may have lost in "chase"..uh I mean limit poker.Obviously most in this forum play limit because they have no heart and lack the intestinal fortitude to put it on the line in no limit. Coincidentally they are all the "best" players around in their own minds and wont hesitate to flame someone for playing a hand in the wrong position!!lmao.

Limit offers me a venue with greatly reduced variance, smaller bankroll requirements, and a larger skill disparity between me and my opponents. Most players who suggest that limit poker is for suckers and NL is the best game to play do so because they have lost their shirts playing limit.
Binbs 0
Im a NL player myself. However Ive also always heard that there is more money to bé made in Limit games. Since Im still new at poker, I want to master NL before I start learning limit, because I have a feeling that Limit is harder to learn - At least from what I have seen. BigDMcGee 3,354
hatred for either is for suckers.. right now there are alot of suckers who think that they can beat no limit, who watch it on TV, who think it's the "real " game.. and they suck at no limit too. Right now, I'd say the worst players play No limit, so that's where the money is.. but there's plenty of money at limit too!! You just have to not hate the game 'cause of macho idiocy, and think about it and study it..

I play limit mostly because sometimes I have trouble keeping my focus 100% of the time and losing focus for a second at NL can be a disaster. I also know that most of the players that play limit at the rooms where I play are extremely loose preflop, and often fairly passive postflop. This makes for some decent pots when you make your draws and they are often happy to let you in on your draws because they don't reraise much. Overall, it makes for more decent sized pots than in the NL games where I've played. In NL, you often don't want to put a lot of money into the pot on a draw, knowing that you'll take a huge hit if it misses. It takes heart to play NL, but against players that are too bad to be bluffed, you have to show down a lot of hands to win. Variance is a killer here.

It's more a math game and less of a game of chicken. In NL you are trying to see who blinks first (at least at the lower limits). People still chase in NL, it just costs them more when they lose.I like both games, my Limit game is much better than my NL game. I found Limit much easier to get a good handle on and not cost my a fortune in bankroll. Please send all those people that are chasing you with bottom pair to the river to my table....That's how I boost my bankroll!
BlueDev 0
Seems to me that it's a bit silly to be saying that either limit or NL is the way to go. Certainly, there's money to be made playing either, assuming you're an above average player (and judging by the average level of competition that seems to be online). For me at least, I've made money more consistently playing limit online. I've found that my NL play depends a lot more on being able to read my opponents, and I've had more success at that in live games. That said, it's certainly fun to play some NL online, though the bigger stack swings do make it a bit more daunting. So...how about pot limit? Smaller swings, but perhaps quicker money than limit. obs 0
Damn, haven't we been over this before? At lower stakes, limit is harder. You have the same edges, or advantages, come your way in both limit and no-limit. In no-limit, you can exploit those advantage much more leaving you able to not worry about your smaller edges much. In limit, you need to exploit all your available edges since you aren't able to exploit a large edge any more than a small edge. This is not to say one of more profitable than the other. You can make great money at both. I just get sick of the limit sucks threads. Did you ever consider the fact the since you have a hard time at limit but not no limit that maybe, just maybe, limit is harder?
