Poker In Australia

Recommended Posts

Hey all, wow, crazy shiit going on, AP is like kryptonite for online poker. It seems it got worse and worse since i remember reading the 1st AP thread at 2+2 a month ago.anyhow, I'm in Surfers Paradise Australia now. heres a quick pic of surfers / Gold Coast78380920_a828b4d477.jpgI'm looking at 2 different condo's on the ocean front to live in for the next 6 months (with a friend + roomate). I'll wake up and play Poker on my balcony over looking the ocean :club: I know we have some aussie's on FCP, and they were very helpfull for me before i left. Except there is 1 thing i learned quickly when i landed in Sydney and wanted to play cash games, they rape you with rake!!the games at Star City Casino is syd ranged from80 dollar NL with blinds at 1/2min andmax buy in is 805 dollars an hour every hour to keep playing a sessin fee, and a 10% rake up to $8. 1/2 NL with a max 200 buy in, was no rake, no session but 1 dollar a hand. meaning if u wanted 2 cards dealt to you u had to pay 1 dollar not including the blindssame goes for limit, a 10% rake and hour session fee,or the pay per hand dealI havent checked out crown casino in Melbourne yet, i hear its the place to be for poker in Oz, but I've been told that these rake/fee's are standard in australia. As for the trip so far, I'm here for 5 more months, Its sick here! Surfers Paradise is nothing but sun and fun.I also had my 1st run in with a Huntsman Spider, right in the middle of the kitchen. I'm pretty sure southern parts of North america get them too.thumb_Heteropoda_venatoria04.jpgHopeeveryone is running well and raking potscheersRT

Hey dude,Great to see your enjoying yourself in the awesome land down under. Definitely head to Crown, they have the best poker in Australia. Last time I went the $1/$2 game had a $100 max buy in (used to be 60 which was shocking) and rake was $5 an hour, seems to be standard. Good luck and have fun!!

Yea pub poker/most B&M poker in Australia is ridiculous; some of the worst poker I've ever seen. Serious players generally just play online, but I like a trip to the casino every now n then...although im in Perth and the casino here has sweet nothing to offer.

Hey royal, glad to hear you are enjoying Surfers, I live in Brisbane so only about an hour away. I apologize on behalf of the nation for the disgrace that is live poker in Australia.

def head to the crown, very nice casino. the poker room is good, offers quite a bit of variety. i never played limit there but those games looked juicy as hell.i didn't play at star city.. their staff tilted me just getting in there for reasons i won't bore you with... once i saw the games i turned around & walked out.burswood in perth is kinda ghey.. small player pool there.. destroyed their $5-$5 though..

For Live cash games Crown is pretty good, i usually play there once a week.Rake in the 1/2NL is $5 per hour plus 10% up to $6 (only slightly better than Sydney). Min buy in is $60 and Max is $80, so there is usually some very loose play with people trying to build a decent stack. And Yes the majority of the players are terrible, especially on a Friday and Saturday night (which is probably the case in most casinos i would imagine)The Play is much better in the 2/5NL games (buy in between $100 and $200)

i gotta know, do they deal the opposite way in australia (counter clockwise)???? I've watched auto races and it was kind of odd they all took right turns. Just wondering.

No.What auto racing were you watching? im not aware of any car racing that is done on ovals, except for dirt tracks.most racing is done on a proper circuit (left AND right turns) :club:

Both of these statements are true. The Crown is def the place to be. I don't remember them having an hourly fee at the tables, but I was playing mainly tournaments during my time in Melbourne. There is a casino called Jupiter's right in Gold Coast. Overall it is a pretty nice place, mostly old people playing slots. When I was there (Jan-May 2006) they had one table of 5/10 limit and one table of 10/20 limit. Wouldn't surprise me if they had expanded that by now. It had the $1 per hand "participation fee" at each table, and a pretty high rake. The play was horrendous though, so I would def recommend hitting up the 10/20.GL man, and enjoy your time down there. Surfer's Paradise is so sick. Have you checked out the Beer Garden yet? Easily top 3 in bars/clubs there.
