Mixed Games Poll

  1. 1. Who gets to choose the game in a mixed cash game?

    • The dealer's position. Since he's got the best position, he should be able to choose the game.
      20
    • The big blind's position. He's paying for it, he should choose the game.
      2
    • UTG +1. For "+1's" sake.
      1
    • Your mother.

dealer's choice is a bit unfair, as if you're good in a game that position matters more than most (coughdrawgamescough), you can pick one of those every time and have a big advantage.typically, i've always played mixed games in a home setting with the rule that there's one orbit of every game chosen, and whoever has the button after that orbit gets to pick the new game.

Wouldn't the same person always have the button after an orbit?

LOL, it's hard to put into words. what i mean is really that the game switches with every orbit+1, which means that although the button gets two buttons of his/her game choice, it's less of an advantage than having it every hand.

Ahhh..I gotcha. Dealer picks a game, one orbit. Then the SB picks the next game, one orbit. Then the BB picks the game, and so on.

kinda, that gets confusing remembering who's up to pick next, though. what we do generally is that the button picks, plays thru to their button again, then when the button moves, the game choice moves with it, so every time you pick a game, you start with the button and end with the button. there's still an advantage to picking draw games, but it's lessened because you do actually get bad position sometimes. there, i think i explained it best this time :club:.

Dealers Choice and Mixed Game are 2 different things. In DC, the dealer chooses which game will be played for the next n hands (where n typically = 1 or the number of players). In casinos, there is generally an approved list of games, in a home game it may be more open. I have never seen a DC game in a casino in the US, but most all European casinos have it at one if not more levels, often as the premium game.In a Mixed Game, the selection and sequence of Games is set (unless all players choose to change it) and each game is played for a set amount of time or number of hands - e.g. 1 table rotation or 1 dealer down. As long as each game is played for the same number of hands as there are players, each player gets a go in each position.

not really true. The only place i ever saw a Dealers Choice game was the Aviation Club in Paris. The casino is ****ing awesome but the game is just plain ridiculous. Its Pot Limit Dealers Choice where the Dealer gets to choose the game for the next hand. He can choose fromHold EmOmahaOmaha HL(so far it makes total sense but now come the creepy part)StudStud HLDouple Flop Hold EmOmaha 5 (Omaha with 5 cards)Remember this is all Pot Limit.

Head to Gilpin casino outside of Denver, CO. There you can play a rousing game of $5/$5 dealers choice, options being holdem, omaha, regular pineapple, and crazy pineapple. ANY of the games can be called Hi/Lo

How do you play regular pineapple hi/lo without it being Craaaazy Pineapple? (fyi one a in crazy is never sufficient for pineapple)hi/lo hold'em is dumb too.And oh yeah LOL @ Colorado where it's 5/5 and the turn bet is 5 and the river is 5 since all you can ever bet in that backwards state is $5

We always play dealer's choice. But I really wanted to vote for your sister, she likes to be choked out.

To the OP:That video you have, where did that happen?
No idea. It's been around for awhile. I think it was on Alcanthang or guinnessandpoker today. I don't remember, and I'm too lazy to look.

You should see big buyin tournies. Colorado doesn't allow direct buyin for big events. For the HPT that's coming to town soon, you have to satellite ($40 or $75) into one of 8 Qualifiers, or you can buy in for $300 + $40. The top 20% of each Qualifier makes the main event, where chips are reset and blinds lowered, with a tv final table. FWIW, I play at a bar south of Denver. Blinds are $0.50/$1.00, no rake. NL Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Dealers Choice on the weekend. Big blind gets to choose the game, could change every hand. Reasoning behind that is because the big blind is the forced action, he should be able to decide the game. I think and have argued that the button should get the choice. If given the choice between choosing the game on my big blind and choosing the game in position, I'd choose the game with position every time. I don't understand why anyone would want to choose the game in the big blind, out of position.Games available are:NL / PL HoldemPL OmahaNL / PL Pineapple (After betting preflop, and after betting on the flop)PL Stripper Pineapple (Dealer created. Four cards dealt, one dropped after flop betting, one dropped after turn betting.)Tahoe. (Three cards dealt. Kept the whole way. After the river, best five card hand using 0, 1 or 2 hole cards, not all three.)No hi / lo or stud games played, since blinds are used. I wish they'd play double flop holdem and hi / lo, but there aren't enough competent dealers to run these games, and keep pots / split pots separated quickly. This place usually has two to three tables during the week, and one or two on the weekend. There are maybe three good dealers out of six or seven. They also hesitate to change or add games because the client base consists of lots of older (white haired) people who don't like the idea of check raising, let alone adding another flop.Another thing that aggravates me is they don't use enough authority. If a table might break or if there is a table 3 or 4 seats short of the other games, the dealers / managers won't move players if they don't want to be moved. So they'll let a table break instead of moving players and keeping the table open. They also don't allow straddles, but that's because myself and a buddy used to do it non-stop, or there would be three or four straddles, depending on the players. They moved the blinds from quarter / fifty to fifty / one, but won't allow straddles, to keep the action friendly. Also, there is a $50 buyin tournament on Sunday the 30th. For each 7 entrants, one seat to the HPT Qualifier will be given away. Remaining prize pool will be divided between satellite entries. PM me for details if anyone is curious.Yeah, I just hijacked my own thread.
