NoSup4U 0
Spybot right? My problem is I forget to run it so I end up only running it like once every couple weeks. So basically an anti-virus like Norton and then Spybot and that is it?Norton and McAfee are both resource hogs. I highly recommend something else like Kaspersky instead.Mark
NoSup4U 0
Windows firewall is okay, but has some pretty severe issues, which I won't go into because it is technospeak. For a great, free firewall program download Comodo. It is far superior to the windows firewall and can be set to a greater number of presets to avoid the email attachment problem mentioned above. If you use AVG and Comodo, you should never have a problem.Comodo Link You should use a hardware firewall like a router, instead of a software firewall like comes with windows.Mark
checkymcfold 0
I'm currently battling a serious issue at the moment. It seems I can't start up Firefox and when it does open it's as if there is a second phantom browser running at the same time behind it. I know that sounds ridiculous, but my pooter is running like totalshit right now (I'm on the Mac at the moment....I really like this computer btw...:hidesheadinshameface:)Anyhoo, gonna take a look at it soon with Mark and if we can findout what it causing this I will post as to how we fixed it just for FYI purposes.since you're a huge mac rookie, i bet you're not actually quitting programs and just closing the windows. when you want to close something on a mac, use apple-Q, not just clicking the red button at the top.also, buy more ram if you have less than 512MB (you can find this out in the apple menu, about this mac). checkymcfold 0
Man, this sucks. Brand new pretty damn good computer and still when I stream video, it has to re-buffer every 30 seconds or so. That would be connection related right? Anyone with any possible solutions, very much appreciated.the first thing i would do is power off your computer(s), router, any network bridges or whatever you have hooked up, your modem, everything, and turn them on one by one starting with the thing "closest to the internet" and working backwards. if that doesn't work, it's likely your ISP company. gary21212121 0
BUMP!!need a little help, my laptop is messed up. the last few days i havent been able to keep it running. what i mean is, i would turn it on and within 5 minutes it would completly shut off. so i left it turned off for a couple days and this morning i restarted it in safe mode (not knowing if this would work or not but thought it was worth a shoot.) well it actually stayed on for more then 5 minutes and i was able to run adaware and mcafee while in safe mode. adaware found a bunch of stuff and deleted it while McAfee didnt find anything (as expected.) But while in safe mode McAfee did say that my computer wasnt protected and everything was turned off and it wouldnt let me turn it back on or reset my firewall from McAfee but when i restarted my computer normally it said i was protected. I then downloaded Spyware Doctor and ran the scan program and it found a few things that said were danger but would not let me delete them without purchasing the software, which sucks cause i only want to do that as a last resort. Does anyone know of any free versions of Spy Sweeper that will actually delete the stuff it finds?

RDog 0
FFS, everyone always says Mozilla but honestly, so many damn problems. I get this error often when following links on multiple sites but when I just type in the address it works- (GIF Image, 1x1 pixels). And the page goes blank. Seriously, I am about to go back to IE exclusively.

Seriously, I am about to go back to IE exclusively.if this sort of stuff is happening (i assume you mean that when you click links, sometimes it doesn't work, but if you type the address into the address bar, it does?), it's most likely either a router that's in the process of dying (or overloaded--how many computers do you have connected to the internet at any given time?) or your internet company is a piece of shit. my current roommate's last house experienced very similar problems to what you're experiencing and it turned out to be cheap ass wires that comcast used to connect his house to the actual phone lines.as for the streaming video, it could just be that you're using a slow broadband connection. do you know what bitrate you purchased? (or maybe better, how much are you paying for internet every month? the 20-25 dollar deals are usually not much faster than a 56k modem, just fyi)

armen13 0
RDOG what is your current speed what have you signed up for? If you are not sure use this link:http://reviews.cnet.com/Bandwidth_meter/7004-7254_7-0.htmlIt tests and gives you actual results. Most ISP's figures are general guideline numbers under optimal conditions anyway, so this is a more true test. Also, the speed may change over the course of a day depending on traffic etc. But differences shouldn't be that huge (you should never get 56k if you signed up for 1.5 m for example)

cwik 0
BUMP.My router has been sucking lately, so looking to get a new one. I have had problems with multiple linksys routers in the past, so they're out.I am currently leaning towards this: D-link DIR-655But also considering other similar netgear and belkin wireless-n models. Also, can somebody explain to me the difference between between the model I linked and this: D-link DIR-625Any other suggestions would be highly appreciated. Things I value in order, but are all important:1. connection stability2. secuity3. range4. speed5. ease of use6. price7. other stuff I can't think right now8. elegance/beauty
