serge 904
AM 34 says he is ready to play Wednesday..This is great news. Can Willy be too far behind? Do the Leafs hold a triple headed press conference to announce the signings of Willy, AM34 , and Mitch? Its exciting times to be a Leafs fan. I think back to the 80s and most of the 90s when there was no salary cap and we were printing money, why couldnt have these assets then? We can sign them all and then get even more assets and just win Cups? Management I guess
serge 904
It’s a good day when Matthews is in lineup. Willy cmon
FCP Bob 1,320
It's a good day when Matthews is in lineup. Willy cmon what's better for the Leafs. A fair trade for Nylander or him signed at too much money ?
serge 904
what's better for the Leafs. A fair trade for Nylander or him signed at too much money ? Its tough one..Too much money meaning we cant sign Marner or Matthews? I dont think that would happen..I dont think an extra $1.5 million a year is going to make that much of a difference IMO. Its tough to get a fair trade, it could turn into a disaster.. However the WORST case scenario is he doesnt sign by Saturday. Sits out the year and walks on July 1 as a UFA..That would suck

serge 904
I don't think he would be an UFA if he doesn't sign I wasnt sure of the rule until I read an article yesterday that claimed exactly that.. I have to double check the source

serge 904
Ya not sure why I thought that.. He cant be a UFA until 7 years in league or age 27..He just burns a year..He can sit out till age 27 I guess

serge 904
Its been over 3 years since the Kessel trade..Lets go back and revisit it..Obviously the Pens got what they wanted and got 2 cups with Philly boy.. Leafs get: Kaspari Kapanen Nick Spaling Scott Harrington Pens first pick 2016(later traded to Anaheim for Freddie Andersen, also gave up a second rounder) New Jersey's 3 round pick which was used on James Greenway Pens get: Phil Kessel Tyler Biggs Tim Erixon 2nd round pick that Pens used on Kasper Bjorkvist Spaling and Harrington have since moved on...Maybe we dont get Freddie without that first round pick..So that was good... Biggs is very far removed from the NHL Erixon hasnt played an NHL game since Bjorkvist is still a longshot college prospect Greenway probably wont make the NHL So to analyze the trade..Kessel needed to be traded..We dumped the old regime and moved on. Pens are happy as it has worked out for them in a big way as he was a big part of the 2 cup wins. Kapanen's upside is huge and we ended up using the pick to get Freddie.. It seems like a win win for both sides...Even if Kapanen somehow ends up to be a 30 plus goal scorer one day.
Dubey 1,035
what's better for the Leafs. A fair trade for Nylander or him signed at too much money ? I don’t think a fair trade exists given everything going on. If you trade him now you are selling low. I would prefer to let him sit the year over signing him for too much money (within reason), or trading him below value.
serge 904
For xmas I want this: Kapanen Matthews Nylander Hyman Tavares Marner Marleau Kadri Brown The Matthews Kapanen and Nylander may end up being one of the most explosives attacks in the league
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Dubey, I think you and I were both Andrew Nielsen fans at one time. If you get a chance, read the JBourne article at the Athletic from today, its a good one. Interesting read for anyone, but esp if you followed Nielsen's career.

Yeah I watched him quite a bit in Lethbridge. Thought he had the raw offensive ability to run a PP in the NHL someday if he cleaned up the rough edges of his game. He always kind of reminded me of Cody Franson. I drafted him in the FCHL. I’ll check out the article, thanks.
