Leafs look pathetic with no improvement in site. Iam a lifelong leaf follower no longer a fanatic and this team looks putrid. I don't even know where to start in rebuilding this team, they are so tied up in contracts that what you see is what you get. Its one thing to cheer blindly its another to pay top dollar for this crap imagine paying 5 bills for a pair of tickets and watching a 7-1 shlacking by an at best .500 team.

Is it a coincidence that every good team in the league follows the "fancy video game stat Geek" model of thinking? and NHL seasons aren't 68 games long, unfortunately.

I had this thought process of blasting into you, getting all mad and belligerent, and then I realized, whats the point. I don't know you, I don't really know what makes you tick, and at the end of the

I guess I'll disclaim this by saying I'm a huge Sundin fan. He's probably my favourite player of all time.   First: Nobody knows exactly what happened. The Leafs couldn't work out a trade with a pla

:club: Why do you think the Leafs are the most hated team in sports?because they have fans like myself and Serge who will always watch them no matter what. Toskala makes me excited tho. A great goalie can take you to the cup finals(Giguere anyone?). All we gotta do is make the playoffs

I think Carolina looks a lot better than a .500 team, at least so far this year.I think last year was just an anomoly.
biased as i may be, I agree. Just could use some D help, aboslutely stacked at FWD positions and Ward is for real.

The Leafs played really well. Toskela was amazing. The Leafs had a few bad breaks here and there and the Hurricanes were lucky enough to cash in.(serge)
I actually thought Toskala did play well, especially the first half of the game, when the Leafs had no business still being in the game.He made quite a few saves in the first that came from complete defensive breakdowns.I missed the 3rd, so cant speak on those goals.

following a team and supporting them when they give you a crap product is 2 different things. It is impossible to support a team that gives you such a crap product. I love following the Leafs but can't support this crap. Since we are stuck with what we have the coaching has to step it up and and preach defensive hockey and back checking. Also just move Macabe to the wing he's not a defensman just make him a right winger so he can stop being a liability defensively.

With all due respect this does not make you a REAL fan....80 to 90% of the people that follow the Leafs are not real fans....I support every decision that the club makes 100% as I know its in the best interest of the club...If your sister or brother does something bad do you disown them??if your son or daughter doesnt perform well at school or their job, do you stop supporting them...NO....I am a leafs fan since the day I arrived in Toronto May 14, 1980...27 years and counting..I will ALWAYS support them with unconditional love and admiration...Thats what a REAL fan is....If that makes me sound delusional or dumb, I dont care...I love the Toronto Maple Leafs and I enjoy every minute. I will watch all the games, buy all the merchandise and go to a few games a year...I am proud to say that my favourite team is the Toronto Maple Leafs, the greatest franchise in pro sports.

This is a scenario that is never ever going to happen to the leafs, but I am curious... how you would react if the owner were put the team up for sale and cut back the payroll to save money? Would you feel betrayed? Would you still support the franchise (and by association, the penny-pinching soon to be ex-owner)?

Its an interesting question, however with the fan base that we have it would never happen...I definetely wouldnt be happy about it , but I will support the team 100%....We did have a crazy owner back in the 80s by the name of Harold Ballard...I didnt agree with most things he did, but I still supported the leafs unconditionally...Its a hard feeling to describe...Its almost like in high school you fall in love with a girl and all your friends say she is the wrong girl for you, however you dont care what anybody thinks....I take slack from everyone in my support in this team, but I dont care....and I know there are a lot of people like me in this city.

How would you feel if you could only watch road games on t.v.? If someone you loved was addicted to drugs, would you not take part in an intervention?

see all these hypothetical questions are way off.....Stuff like that wont happen here...but if it does I would deal with it...I am assuming you are referring to the Blackhawks situation..If the team had enough support the owner wouldnt have to resort to blacking out home games...And comparing the Leafs situation to a family member on drugs is a little off base..

True. Not hockey related but I have been a fan of the Detroit Lions since I was like 8. That was 27 years. I stopped being a fan at the end of the 05 season. They put out such a crap product that after 25 years of following the team and rooting them on each Sunday only to get nothing I gave up. My Sundays are much better now. I still watch them only to root for the other team. Now they are 3-2 and everyone in this city is jumping on the Lions hype but if you step back and look at the whole season and how it has gone, they are no better than they were last year and will again be crap. People don't understand how I can't be a fan anymore. Easy, the product is bad and gives it's fans nothing.

I edited this into my post above just after you responded, so here it is:I'm not asking this to take the 2462450875th shot at you for being such a devoted fan or anything. The above obviously happened to the Blues, and for that year, I didn't support them in any way financially. I still watched the games and enjoyed reading up on the team, but the fact is that the owner was not acting in the best interests of the franchise. I don't think anyone could blame me for reacting that way, but that's mostly because the owner was so blatantly obvious about what he was doing. Maybe some of the 80-90% of leafs fans you cite feel the same way for less obvious reasons?

The Hawks were very popular here in the early 90's and playing at the Stadium, selling out every night, but you still had to pay for "Hawkvision" to watch the games, now we don't even have that option. Chicago will support any team that at least makes an effort to relate to their fans. Look at the Wolves (AHL), Rush (AFL) and Fire (MLS). Curious to know how you would "deal" with it? You brought up family in your post.

I would have stopped being a fan the second Barry Sanders retired. He was the only thing worth watching on the Lions for about 7 years straight.

Cheers Serge! Well said. I know this has all been discussed many times, but I really like Serge's stance.I may not agree with it, but I respect it. And I really love the idea of being this much of a fan, even blindly.I loved the character in the movie Fever Pitch, the guy addicted to the Boston Red Sox. I have never been this big a fan of any team, I cant help but feel a little envious.

Thanks Arp..Its a hard feeling to describe..Even for a mid week game in October I get so excited...I go through a pre game ritual and get my whole family involved...My son is starting to watch the games with me, and I cant wait to take him to his first NHL game...Still a little too young for that...I really dont care what anybody thinks of my beliefs as its my passion...From the highs of Saturday's OT winner from Kaberle to the low of last nights 7-1 drubbing I just cant get enough of the Leafs....I listen to Leafs lunch whenever I am in the car, watch Leafs TV pre game show and listen to all the call in shows I get a chance to......While other people talk to their friends about politics, weather and current events, the main topic I want to discuss is who is Sundin playing with tonight or when is Kyle Wellwood coming back. I may be addicted to the Leafs but I am proud of it.

At least now you can move on to step #2.But really, it's easy to be a fair weather fan but it's a lot harder to be a true fan. I am a true Penguins fan but I wonder how I might feel about them if they ever were to go through a stretch that the Pirates have been stuck in for the last 16 years. Instead since I was 4 years old the Penguins have had scoring leaders in 12 of 19 NHL seasons and they made the playoffs 13 times in the same 19 seasons. Since Jagr left in 2001 and before Crosby showed up 5 years later I still watched every game I could and knew that they would be back to playoff form.

It's not a bad thing to be a fanatic about a team, but you don't have to support them 100% no matter what. It's OK to not agree with decisions they make. The teams I am fans of all make it tough on me year in and year out. BlackHawks: a ton of non-fan-friendly decisions, Bears: good last year, but haven't had a good QB or offense in a very long time, Cubs: are you kidding me!, Kansas Jayhawks: every year they disappoint. The worst is when a team doesn't seem to have the average fan's best interest in mind, like the Hawks.

Serge let me explain the difference between following a team and being a fanatic. If your brother does a heinous crime and if you defend him, you are being blind to the situation at hand. Serge I use to bleed blue for many of years, give you an exmaple this one time at Yorkdale mall after hours Kirk Muller came to the store and started talking to me and my buddy. Of course my buddy asks for an autograph he gives one to him, he turns to me and says you want anything signed? My reply was hell no you play for the habs. He laughed and said a true Leaf fan. Back to my point the product management is putting out on the ice is a fff****ing crime to this city and the history of this team. At a certain point you get fed up and demand change, you cheering them blindly is helping them keep this stale team as is with no changes. You think drastic changes wouldn't occur if the city boycotted the team sure it will. Me yelling at my kid and telling him to change his ways doesn't mean I love him any less but I aint putting up with his crap. Hence I aint putting up with the Leafs crap. This is not being a bandwagon fan or a fairweather fan its just someone whos sick and tired of the garbage they call a team.I still respect your choice in following the team but Iam sure you understand my frustration.
