MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Discussing this in the first place is probably stupid considering he'a not eligible to win. I'm not sure why you're turning this into an anti-leafs thing. I think your claim that he's still working by being there is a stretch. I'm quite certain there are players in the NHL right now who have lost loved ones. Taylor Pyatt comes to mind immediately. Has anyone even suggested him as a candidate...no, because he doesn't live or work in Toronto. I didnt turn it into an anti-Leafs thing. Your first objection to this seemed to be that this was only a consideration because "Burke is from Toronto". If you want to say its anti-Toronto, ok, fine. All I know is your constant objection seems to be that...1. He isnt worthy just cause his son died2. He is only being considered because he's from Toronto
digitalmonkey 929
Surliness towards the media really isn't related to sportsmanship in any way, is it? As for the Lowe incident, sure, you could make that point. But, on the other hand, if you have to go five years back to find an episode where a hockey person popped off at the mouth towards another hockey person, then I think that might put Burke in the TOP five percent for sportsmanship....I guess we also disagree on what good sportsmanship is. coesillian 0
Gainey was never mentioned for the Masterton and suffered a similar loss, I would say his loss was even more difficult to live through because his daughter disappeared at sea and they tried to search for her and never got real closure. I think it's odd to mention Burkes name for the trophy when the precedent set is that a GM losing a child doesn't qualify you for the trophy (I feel like trophy is the wrong word to use here, award might be better suited). That's because we don't live in Anaheim. If you didn't follow the habs so closely and so loyally, I doubt that you would have brought up Gainey's circumstance. Look, this is descending into dumb, as Arp says. If you don't believe that Burke might be the most deserving nominee from Toronto for this trophy (if he was eligible), I accept that, and respectfully disagree. Whatever works..... move on.... I have no idea whether anyone ever put forth the theory that he might have been a good candidate if he was eligible. Neither do you.

I think he has displayed all of the qualities a Masterton winner should have.I guess it boils down to the fact that I don't think 2 weeks is long enough to display perseverance. And I think the relative impact of what you have to deal with is part of the formula. I think, as a parent, if, GOD FORBID, that happened to me.... I would probably curl up in a ball and die. Period. Not go to work a couple of days later, where everyone in the world is going to ask you questions about the single most painful thing that could ever happen to a parent.. MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Mikhail Grabovski (wrist) didn't injure himself further during an alleged street fight Saturday morning. The incident led to Grabovski being arrested and an investigation is ongoing. "As far as I know, he's healthy. Stupid but healthy," GM Brian Burke said. I just love Burke sometimes.
