mrdannyg 274
I invented salaries for Schenn, Bozak, MacArthur.I don't know what a Frattin is. Left Hanson as a RFA.You have a bit less than $10 M there. Top flight center would be really really good. You have at least 5 good top 9 wingers, 2 good centers, plus Kadri. Orr, Rosehill, Brown as 4th liners. Defense looks ok, but probably wouldn't mind one more, and then just axe Lebda.Nice work. I'd guess Bozak gets a couple hundred K more (undeservedly). Man, Stastny or someone like that would fit so perfectly in there. Play him with Kessel/Kulemin, Grabo makes a great 2nd line centre with MacArthur/Armstrong, etc. We're still missing a couple 4th-liners - Madden would go nicely there. mrdannyg 274
I wouldn't mind the Leafs leaving some cap space - use it mid-season to pick up overpaid players other teams are desparate to get rid of like Giguere.

serge 904
Well ironically we are one of the few teams without a UFA signing as of yet.I think we dodged a lot of bullets, teams signing bad contracts to mediocre players. We will see how Richards unfolds this morning, before going for plan B
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
We will see how Richards unfolds this morning, before going for plan BOne of my friends who is convinced Burke only wants Americans is saying Connolly is like a lock. I dont see that as Burke type. What do we think Plan B is for #1C? I keep thinking Stastny/Weiss in trade, but I dont see it happening. I would have signed a Leino/Fleischmann/Upshall and traded a Grabo+Bozak for a C, if thats out there to be done.

The money is irrelevant, the term is whats important.Connolly isnt really a number one centre, but its worth a good shot.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
thats a lot of money. At least it ends soon. (unless Conn breaks out, then you got nothing)I like it when they dont announce the money, I try to guess.Should help a lot.

I think I would have tried for Stastny though, IF he was even available.(im betting he wasnt, really)I think Kessel+Connolly should work well together. Always liked Connolly's talent, and thought he was capable of much more. He should now get all the opportunity to prove it.I still cant buy into this being a contending team, too many questions for me, but I dont see why they shouldnt be in a run for the playoffs. When Roy went down last year, Timmy was the ONLY qualified offensive center on the team and he completely blew it. He only outscored Derek by 7 points and played in nearly double the games (68 to Roy's 35). The only way I would have wanted Connolly back on Buffalo would be as the 3rd line center and a PK specialist, and TBH I probably would have given him the deal Toronto is dishing out to fill that role, he's good when you don't expect offense from him and he's one of the better PK guys out there. If you're expecting a top-2 center who will score anywhere near PPG, you're going to be very disappointed. I know we were. Good luck!*Edit* OMFG...I thought $4.75 million was the total contract value over two years...they actually gave Timmy a RAISE and a 2-year $9.5 million deal. I take it back, Toronto got hosed BAD.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
You think his problems in Buffalo were with him not being given opportunities?nope, that wasnt what I was implying. I was not saying his problems were about opportunity. His problems are his health, and general suckiness at certain parts of the season. But I was saying the Leafs will give him an opportunity to prove he is a #1C, without it coming because of injury. Lets face it, he was never considered a #1C by Ruff, even the year before when he had a good year statistically.(I believe)And, he will get to play with Kessel, until both of them are beyond sick of each other. If he doesnt succeed here, he never will anywhere.Overpayment? Hellz ya!

Babying 613
I have no problem with Connolly as Plan B. I know he had his problems and was given chances in Buffalo but it is definitely better than what we had last year.I remember sitting down watching a Buffalo game and saying to my son, Connolly maybe a Leaf next year.
