Best Investment For 350$

Recommended Posts

Hi,I play live games several times a week for my main source of income, but I have decided to set aside 350$ to give the online poker a shot. I just want to get some feedback from the people here who know what's up.These are the three options I was considering:1/2 or 2/4 NL 6 handed tables.10/20 Limit 7 or more.or20$/ 30$ Sit and Go's.Anyway, I am a specialist at grinding so the NL tables seem like a good choice, but the pots seem mostly small from what I've observed. The swings at the limit tables are exciting so that is also enticing; and I am also pretty good at tournaments. So, these are the three different things I was pondering. Thanks for any feedback.

i don't care how good you think you are at grinding, there is zero chance you won't go broke with a $350 BR playing 1/2 or 2/4 NL (esp shorthanded) or 10/20 limit (lol 17 big bets).

I don't really appreciate your condescending attitude there kid. And, furthermore: "there is zero chance you won't go broke.." Really? Double negative huh... let me guess, you dropped out of school to play poker for a living. How old are you anyway? You can't play 1/2 NL with a 350 buy in? Hmm... well I am sorry for you--practice some more and maybe you'll get it. I play 1/2 3 times a week with a 200$ buy in and do fine. Obviously, different people have different skill levels.I said I wanted to give online poker a try. I didn't say I wanted to blow my whole bankroll on something new to me--hence the only using 350$ set aside to try something new approach! Anyway, I asked for advice--not some completely inane dribble from some kid that can't even form complete sentences. Thanks to poster number one--that is at least somewhat helpful.

There are far fewer major donks online than at the casino. Casino 1-2 NL you'll see 5-6 people to a flop with a 10x BB raise. Online people are way tighter, nittier and tougher. A 1-2 NL live plays a lot like online microstakes (ie, 0.05/0.10 blinds NL).

Dude, you need to chill out.Don't call people 'kid' when you have no idea.Don't make assumptions about people and their education when you haven't a clue.Cowboy is 100% correct, but I think he makes a false assumption as well.If you expect to play 1/2 or 2/4 NL 6 max, or 10/20 LHE on JUST a $350 deposit, the odds of you not going broke are going to be quite close to 0%, regardless of whether or not you are the best player in the world. Now, since you say you play live for a living, I assume you have a bigger bankroll than this, and will be able to redeposit if you want to. In that case, play whatever your overall bankroll will support. But if you're never going to redeposit again, then Cowboy is all over it.If you're treating $350 as your bankroll for online play, and want to go by the books, you're looking at playing like .05/.10 NL, or possibly .10/.25 NL, and .5/1 LHE.

"won't" is a negative. Please point out the other one.

You said a $350 bankroll, retard. "I have decided to set aside 350$ to give the online poker a shot", if you meant to say "I will deposit $350 every time I lose a buyin then say that. Then again maybe you're skill levels are so high that you never lose a buyin? Folding AA preflop to a shove seems a stupid way to play, but I guess if you never lose a buyin that's your play.
I said I wanted to give online poker a try. I didn't say I wanted to blow my whole bankroll on something new to me--hence the only using 350$ set aside to try something new approach!
You asked "best investment for $350". The answer to that is to follow the standard approaches for a $350 bankroll. I you are God's gift to poker then you'll move up limits so fast it won't matter anyway. Had you asked "I have $350 I'm willing it lose in one night just for fun, what should I play" then the answer will be different.

Thanks zach for re-iterating what I said. What an honor to be in the presence of someone who plays $1/$2 multiple times a week.Setzer, your initial post implies that this is just a shot and you don't plan on playing full time online. Games are generally much tougher online than live at equivalent limits. I have several friends that do make a ton of money grinding the 2/4 NL level. The games are hardly ever as soft as a live 2/5 game, much less a 1/2 homegame. Variance will eat you alive if your bankroll is less than 2 buy-ins. There are a plethora of posters on this forum (myself included) who have played upwards of a hundred thousand hands online who can attest to this. While we're correcting each other though, this "kid" is married, owns his own house, and has a masters. I'm a recreational player but a more than decent winner in live games from 2/5 up to 10/20 NL when I do play, besides the home game I host weekly. As already pointed out, besides not knowing what a double negative actually is, I think the word you were looking for is drivel, not dribble. Oh, and the first reply was making fun of you by referring to the bankroll management rules Chris Ferguson wrote about in that article, which this venture would be the opposite of.Welcome to the forum. Next time, I'll try to post without the widely accepted abbreviations common to "the internet" when I think you might be reading.

If you plan on playing the cash games, start as low as possible..05/.10 NL online is a lot tougher than 1/2 live.Plan on having at least 15 buyins full ring, 25 for shorthanded. More is of course better.
