I'm considering moving out to Las Vegas and leaving overpriced Massachusetts behind. The Mrs.-to-be and I will have about $70k to put down on a new house, and I noticed you can get a 4 bed 3 bath place in LV for $250,000. Around my area that same house would be $500,000.So, I was thinking of getting a job in Finance, or trying to become a Hold Em dealer. Anyone know how difficult it is to get hired? I'm not sure what the pay is, either. I figured maybe minimum wage hourly (like $7, I think), and if you can deal 30 hands per hour and get a $1 tip for half of them, you're making $22 per hour roughly. Not bad considering cost of living and all.Unless I'm wrong. Anyone able to help me out with some info? Looking at Las Vegas only.

Dealers make on average after tips and all between 35-55 and report around 30-35. There is also no state tax so take that into effect also. If you can get in on some of the better tourney's you can make decent on those also. The job market is decent right now but so many people are moving out there it can be a bit of a headache.

Poker tips are not usually shared plus they start you below minimum wage. Most of the time to get a poker job in a strip casino you need to get juiced in no matter how good your resume looks. If they are *really* short than you have a shot of being hired if you have 3 years experience. Most likely you will have to work at a smaller casino and get experience and work your way up to the strip casinos where you make the real money. Also keep in mind there is almost nothing to do in Vegas but to work and gamble. I've witnessed alot of couples try to make it there and leave seperated, broke or both. Try your best ($$$) to live in the good part of town. My advice on the work front is to learn poker, blackjack, craps, roulette, pai gow tiles and work 2 part-time jobs (part-time will be your only option when you start maybe even for 2 years), one as a poker dealer and one as a regular dealer. This way when you can get into a strip casino and have the option to make alot of money as a regular dealer (60K+) or still work as a poker dealer (45K range on avg). If your wife is um.... really good looking and stacked have her c@cktail waitress and deal poker both part-time. I've seen c@cktail waitress bring in 100K on a good year but I'm sure they had to do favors to get all the good shifts and good (high roller) sections 5 days a week, still waitressing straight up should bring in 60k in a strip casino and thats only working in 6 hour shifts. GoodLuck.
