Dn Moaning On Cardplayer

Recommended Posts

Shame to see Daniel moaning on Cardplayer about the WSOP main event. Basically, the contention is that pros are too good to beat amateurs and win it. Strange if Tiger Woods couldn't win a major just cos the field is large. If big names like Moneymaker, Raymer, Brunson and Hellmuth can win then so can any pro. Daniel needs to try harder.

Don't ever question Daniel Negreanu. I'll read the blog in a second.

you seem to be forgeting that in a single poker tournament the luck factor is very large, while in golf is all skill babaaayplus the field in most golf events is less than 100 not >5000.

Horrible analogy. Golf is very different from poker in many ways...I'm not even gonna start here...**** it, I'm done.

Does anyone have his exact words? If that is what he said, then i'd like to point out that he doesn't have to play in it if he doesn't want to.I don't like people complaining about the ME being won by 'un-knowns' all the time. It's crap, Greg Raymer, Joe Hachem and Jamie Gold are acctualy very good players with good records, and when he says that it's too hard for a pro to win, just look at some of the top finishers in recent years - Scotty Nyguen was one of the chip leaders but busted in 11th(i think) this year along with Gus Hansen who had a good run, Allen Cunningham managed to make it in 2006, Andy Black in 05, Sammy Farha in 03.He should learn to enjoy the main event for what it is.

It's not that the pros can't beat the amateurs. There are just so many amateurs it makes it unlikely for a pro to win. If you have a tournament with 500 pros and 500 donkey amateurs who do you think is gonna be at the final table?

But surely a pro(meaning just one specificaly) has a better chance of winning a tournament with 50 pros and 500 donkeys than they do one with 550 pros.

No. I admit he is getting better but you can't even put him in the same category as Raymer or Hachem.

If you think there is no luck in golf then you don't really know what happens during a golf tournament.

Well there's a slight bit of luck because weather conditions may vary but in general that isn't a massive factor.Everything else isn't classed as luck.

Are you saying the luck factor in a golf tournament is comparable to that in a poker tournament if so, you obv have no clue about either

The luck factor in golf is quite a bit less then in a poker tournament, but there are still several factors of luck that come into play. Weather was mentioned, but simple things like where your ball comes to lie (in a divot, etc), spike marks (PGA pros are still allowed to wear metal spikes, unless I missed that change in the last year or two), bad bounces, etc etc. If I hit a wedge, that narrowly avoids the flag it will spin back close, but another inch to the left or right, and I might hit the flag and have it bounce clear off the green.Ewww, or my all time least favorite - having your ball go into a trap and the bunker wasn't raked well/at all. Golf tilt fkadjfkljadfl;jasdl;fLike every sport, golf is def a game of inches, which is what makes Tiger so great to me. It's a sport you really shouldn't be able to dominate at the level he does at times.
