hblask 1
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal..."Apparently, we've forgotten the point of creating a country called the United States. Sort of sad, but it explains a lot. The culture of celebrity and power has taken over for the culture of merit, and it's gotten so bad that people don't even care that one person can waste hundreds of thousands of other people's man-hours to attend a private, non-job-related function. strategy 4
If he doesn't want to sit in traffic, he can do what the rest of us do, and drive during off hours. That freeway is relatively wide open at 2AM. Or perhaps he could find some other way to manage his personal, non-official business through means that doesn't require him to inconvenience the people who pay his salary. Maybe he could have them come to him, maybe rent a room at the airport? Or he could get a private helicopter at the airport and fly to visit his rich pals? There are dozens of solutions that don't involve closing a major road during rush hour.I think the worst is the tours they take in disaster areas. Yeah, it's nice to show compassion, but is it worth hindering the rescue and cleanup efforts to have adequate security?
navybuttons 16
His time was being spent to go to a private fundraiser, it had nothing to do with the job he is being paid to do. And no, his time is not more important than mine. His job is, but not his time. We all have, on average, the same number of hours on earth.i don't get this thread. hblask is hitting everyone w/ truf and most responses are outrage that someone might speak against president bush.again i hate politics and make most of my statements as questions. should doctors get free passes into the carpool lane because their job is arguably more important than a woman who serves donuts? would you not be frustrated if your evening commute was held up an extra hour because Felipe Calderón was driving through on his way to make a speech about the importance of u.s.-mexican relations?also, if you don't live or have lived in a high traffic area of the country, i feel you are slightly less qualified to discuss the issue. I live in Detroit. I know what traffic is.2. I despise Bush and never voted for him.3. Security, security, security. What is so damn hard to figure out about that.4. No matter how much I despise and will party in the streets when he is gone, things would be worse if he was assassinated. What the problem is that you all think he calls someone up and says close the streets I want to go to A&W and get a root beer float. Wherever he goes they need to make sure that he can get there safely. It's not rocket science. You think the President is safe sitting in traffic? You are stupid as shit if you do. They do it in DC when he goes places, I have seen it a few times. It's not because he wants to be cool, the secret service want him to be safe. navybuttons 16
1. I live in Detroit. I know what traffic is.kind of you do. you definitely know what bad roads are, i'll give you that. also, lol at red lights not applying to you guys. 3. Security, security, security. What is so damn hard to figure out about that.it's not that we don't realize he needs security, it's the manner in which his travel plans come foremost above the peoples. You think the President is safe sitting in traffic?a little much. They do it in DC when he goes places, I have seen it a few times.it happens in DC and NY all the time. i'm aware of that and can respect that. however, i believe there is a major difference between a squad of 5 siren flashing SUVs going through cars and closing an entire stretch of freeway for an hour.Nov. 22nd 1963That is why you close roads.Look it up if you are stupid.lol, i actually had to do that. i guess i'm stupid. i just hadn't put the idea of a public appearance and transportation in the same category in my brain. kennedy was not traveling he was going through a parade which to me is more similar to speaking at a national convention then it is driving between an airport and a lecture hall. but then again, i'm stupid. hblask 1
I doubt it was closed for an hour but it depends on where he was going and such. You're not stupid, I am just cranky! It was closed for an hour here yesterday, which is even more annoying, since they know exactly where he is. If they are going to do it, make it 10 minutes tops -- it's not like it's hard to figure out where he is. Second, why can't they just make a moving convoy --- an armored car surrounded by other armored humvees. If you like, have 4 or five such convoys as decoys, so that if someone were to make some bold move, they'd have a 1 in 5 chance of hitting him. But for the record, if someone was going to attack a moving, armored convoy, they would have a much easier time just attacking the destination or some other time when he's not so heavily guarded. Sure he is doing nothing at that time but if something important were to happen then he would need a quick safe route to the airport or wherever to handle that business. Having the world in trouble and the president siting in traffic would be as absurd as .....well George W. Bush Reading "the pet goat" at Emma E. Booker Elementary on 9/

Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrat this point I will recommend the movie "The Death of a President". It's a movie about Geoirge W. Bush getting assasinated one evening. It was banned in the States, but releasd in Canada. It's a very touchy movie and alot of americans will absolutely hate this movie, even I found a little touchy. The movie itself doesn't hate on Bush, but it's a story about the assasination of a present day icon, it is shocking yet allurring.

Booker Elementary on 9/11 Somewhat of a point, but for what he does, it doesn't matter what his location is. He can contact anywhere in the world immediately from the back of his limo. It's not like he needs to go to the front lines. And the convoy would move pretty quickly anyway, as fast as any emergency vehicle.
