Phil Galfond explains his play on HSP: (from 2+2)So I got on this next season of HSP...
Hmmm... nothing about accidentally mucking a winning hand (chop) after checking down after the last card.He must have forgotten that part.
I think it’s really unfortunate that America would rather watch bad, loud poker than extremely high level thinking from the true best players in the world, but I guess they don’t know any better.
What a strong player....oh, and the babe in the Disaronno commercial is hot.

If anyone has an invite for Pokerbay it would be awesome as we don't get HSP here in Australia. Torrents is all that I live by.Thanks
Youtube usually has the new HSP episodes up within a day or two of air, and www.pokertube.com is another good resource for streaming poker video. You don't necessarily *need* torrents to watch poker.

Anyone else notice that Jamie Gold has gone to all this trouble to establish a swashbuckler image.. and he NEVER takes ANYONE to valuetown when he's got the best hand? It took gabe like 45 minutes into 3 straight episodes of insanity to call him out on it.

That started to piss me off. I'm like BET THAT SHIT. Anyway next weeks episode looks sick from the previews. There's going to be so much action.

It's going to reflect "big game" mentality a bit more.. Now if only they played a rotation instead of just unlimited hold 'em..Let Sammy loose on some 500k stacks with PLO as the game in current rotation!

Phil Galfond explains his play on HSP: (from 2+2)
I havent seen any of the newest episodes with him on them, But he sounds like a sucky internet nerd. Its High stakes, not "who's the best evar!!11!!1"which is why Bob Safai is on there a few episodes, people like watching money being thrown around.

Since the best players in the World aren't there I guess nobody will be folding the winning hand on the river.I guess when Galfond folded his winner it must have been some upper level meta game play that only the top 5 internet players in the World ( who are also the top 5 players in the World ) would understand or even try.

I liked Doyle's comment in the preview where he said that only one player at the table had a Roll that could support playing at that level.Who is that guy Guy?
That is Guy Laliberte who according to Forbes is the 664th richest person in the World. He's the founder of Cirque de Soleil.http://www.forbes.com/lists/2007/10/07bill...berte_SY4I.html

So there are at least 663 other people with a roll that could justify sitting at the table.I wonder if they play Poker...

Who is that guy Guy?
In addition to the information given by the responses above me, he finished 4th in the most recent $25,000 buy-in WPT Championship where Carlos Mortensen won and Kirk Morrison finished second. He won just under $700k.

Yes I found this very funny when I saw it happen after reading his post where he stated that he could best all of them over time. Well then I guess just giving Eli 14K fits right into that. Whatever I hope he plays some more next season so he can show the world just how good he is and that he can beat all these other pros that shouldn't get to play because of their names. Can't wait for next week...I hope DN wins enough so that he can work on his golf game some more!!!

Are you talking about Guy or Galfond. If Galfond then that's great, but he looked completely lost and overwhelmed while playing beyond his bankroll (which I am certain makes mine look like a small blind) live. Without saying so, he pretty much confirms this by saying he had a max of 2 buyins for the $100k sessions and 1 buyin for the big session - sounds like playing beyond one's roll to me.Folding a winning hand was just one more thing that showed he was not ready for this game.If you're talking about Guy, then I'm certainly looking forward to seeing him play.

Guy is noatiana, the biggest fish on Full Tilt at the high stakes. Galfond is OMGClayAiken, and is considered one of the best high stakes NL players on Full Tilt.

That wasn't his bankroll, just the money he had with him, as it is difficult for him to wire those large sums of money across the country. I don't think it was the money that was affecting him at all.

Of course I know who he is.Galfond is one of the most successful high stakes heads up/ short handed NL holdem players on the net. He's also very young and opened himself up to some ridicule with some of his statements in his posts on 2+2. He may be one of the very best NL holdem players in a live setting as well but his showing on HSP was boring and showed that he lacked at that time an understanding of the purpose of the show and that is entertainment. It also may be possible that his strength is playing heads up and not at a table of 8 players in a live setting. When you make statements saying that you're the best and then muck a winning hand at the river instead of showing it down you leave yourself open.

Best part of the episode was when DN was watching Hellmuth make his insurance deals and DN says "what about money do you just hate?" Galfond sure looked dumb after folding that 7, but he did play that K9 very very well, and he's still a very good player. However I think his comments reflect a lot of internet players' feelings about live play, and they show a lack of understanding of people. People want to gamble when they play live. They get up, get dressed, drive down to the casino, buy in, get their chips, and sit down for a whole day. They didn't come to just sit there and wait for the right situation. So they're going to make some nutjob plays/calls. It's not that they don't understand that they're making a bad play, they just want to play. This mentality also has the effect of making them very hard to play against because it's very hard to put them on a hand. Even Phil G. himself (no derision here) couldn't put Sammy on a hand when he bet the Q7 against Eli's 88. (This is the hand he's referring to in his trip report when he says that he would always bluff in that spot, even though DN said he wasn't bluffing). Cliff Notes: Reading people is a skill you can't learn online.
